Rise of the Apocalypse Hunter With Hand Transformation Skill-Chapter 40: Swim
Lisa was starting to really dislike Melly’s behavior.
She walked away from her without saying a word—not even a simple greeting.
’Hmph, are you jealous? Too bad I’m much prettier and Liam is clearly more interested in me. He’d never go for someone like you with your plain face and horrible sense of fashion,’ Melly thought, snorting as she looked at Lisa.
She didn’t consider her friendship with Lisa important—what mattered to her was Liam, not Lisa.
They just happened to be in the same group.
Meanwhile, Liam and the others had already reached the center of the complex since Simba was moving so quickly.
Liam remained silent while Alice stared at Selena.
"Auntie, why do you want to go back to your house? After all, you live alone. What is it you want to retrieve?" Alice asked her, surprising Liam—who had assumed Selena wanted to see her child.
But based on what Alice said, perhaps she didn’t have any children, since she lived alone.
"There’s an item that’s very important," Selena replied.
"How can it still be important?" Alice asked, confused.
The world had changed. Even gold was no longer valuable, so what could possibly still matter?
This time, Selena didn’t answer. She fell silent—as if she didn’t want Liam to know what it was.
Liam was curious and furrowed his brows when she refused to say.
Still, he was patient enough to wait and find out later.
Not long after that, he finally saw the complex gate. Beyond it was a wide road that resembled Business Street, though it lacked skyscrapers—only small buildings, mostly shops.
Liam saw more zombies there, and the flood on that road looked even deeper.
To avoid them, Simba leapt onto the roof of a building and jumped straight across the street.
"Ehhh..." About 200 meters away, Liam spotted quite a few people fighting zombies.
They were of various ages—from young to old.
Judging by their clothes, they seemed to be shop employees from that street.
Naturally, they noticed him riding a giant cat, stunned, but the cat didn’t stop.
Liam focused on his task. He had no intention of stopping for people unless it was absolutely necessary.
Behind the shops on the far side of the road were many sports fields, and beside them flowed a large river.
On the other side of that river was Liam’s house, in one of the old residential complexes.
However, when he looked at the river, his expression turned grim.
The two long bridges spanning the river had collapsed.
It wouldn’t be a problem if the river was small, but even at its narrowest point, it stretched over 500 meters wide—at its widest, up to 1 kilometer.
"Simba, you can swim, right?" Liam asked the cat.
"I can, and I’m not afraid of water—but I can sense a lot of monsters in this river," Simba replied.
"No problem. I’ll fight them," Liam said.
Upon hearing that, Simba immediately leapt into the river.
He really could swim—but aside from his head, his back was almost submerged.
Liam wanted to laugh seeing the cat like that but held himself back so as not to offend him.
Splash!
Suddenly, a fish leapt toward him.
It was the same type of river fish he used to catch, but now it was over four meters long—with a mouth big enough to swallow him whole.
(Monster Level 6!)
He received a notification.
’Maybe I can level up in this river,’ Liam thought.
Rather than being alarmed, he was glad for the encounter—his level was increasing too fast, making it harder to find zombies and monsters that could give him Battle Points.
He drew his sword and slashed at the fish—without transforming his right hand.
For a monster like this, he didn’t need to use too much Mana, just in case he encountered something stronger.
Shua!
His sword slash was coated in wind energy, forming a large blade of air that shot toward the fish.
Even though Wind Blade was only a Tier C skill, with his amount of Mana, it became very powerful.
The fish didn’t even try to dodge, letting the slash strike it directly.
Shua!
It tore through the right side of its body, ripping off a few scales.
However, it was just a shallow wound—barely bothering the fish.
Liam only smiled, not expecting much.
Then, he used Infinite Attack, since weak attacks didn’t use much Mana.
A second slash appeared above the fish, slicing its neck before it could even react.
The result: half its neck was severed—an especially vulnerable area due to the smaller scales.
A third slash followed, cutting through the rest of its neck until the head was completely detached.
(You have slain a Level 6 Monster. You have earned 60 Battle Points!)
(Battle Points: 70/700)
Right after the fish died, Liam saw more fish swimming rapidly.
There were five of them, all Level 6.
They didn’t attack immediately, but instead circled Simba—who kept swimming toward the middle of the river.
To Simba, fish were just food. He looked annoyed being surrounded like this, but since Liam hadn’t told him to attack, he stayed still.
Liam was starting to get impatient seeing they weren’t attacking.
He transformed his right hand into a Water Dragon Hand, instantly gaining full control over the river’s water.
Buzz!
He forcibly raised the water around the fish, launching them into the air.
Shua! Shua!
He slashed his sword toward each of them, sending one wind slash at each fish as they flailed midair.
The slashes hit easily—but like before, didn’t fatally wound them. However, more slashes appeared, cutting them repeatedly.
In no time, they were chopped into pieces.
(You have slain five Level 6 Monsters. You have earned 300 Battle Points!)
(Battle Points: 370/700)
’I hope something stronger shows up,’ Liam thought.
He wasn’t satisfied earning just 60 Battle Points—not even a single System Point.
"Master, master! There’s a huge snake below! It wants to swallow me..." Suddenly, Simba screamed in panic.
A cat wasn’t supposed to be afraid of snakes, but Simba was panicking—he even called it huge, and considering he was already enormous, Liam couldn’t help but wonder how big this snake actually was. Its level had to be higher than Simba’s, who was at Level 7.
Without fear, Liam leapt into the river.
If the snake was too powerful, he’d simply transform into the Undead King, ensuring he wouldn’t die—while keeping his real body safe.
Splash!
Liam plunged into the river and swam downward.
The water was dark, but he could still see below clearly.
And then, he saw the snake that had made Simba scream—
—and it truly shocked him.
