Rewriting My Fate in the Apocalypse-Chapter 90: The Government’s Deceit
Chapter 90: Chapter 90: The Government’s Deceit
"The situation is just as we thought. It’s way worse than what we see on TV. There are thousands of zombies everywhere. It looks like at least three-thirds of the city turned into zombies.
What the government shows on TV are the areas that are lightly populated with fewer people. Some survived, others awakened superpowers, and others turned into zombies.
With the military intervening and killing a large number of the zombies, the remaining ones are obviously fewer. That is the number projected onto our screens.
I don’t know if they are doing this to avoid panic or if they have other motives, but they are not doing the citizens a favor. They are making them complacent thinking that there aren’t many zombies and the government can deal with the few that emerge. However, the truth is the complete opposite.
From this place we rode to the city center and the number of zombies on the way is unimaginable. There are hundreds of zombies everywhere you look, some are locked in abandoned cars on the streets and roads, others are inside buildings and unable to open the doors and come out.
The city center is worse. You could find a single road with thousands of zombies. You haven’t even entered high-traffic areas like malls or schools. How could the government lie to people so openly? If you tell me nothing is going on I won’t believe it." Leng Pan ranted with frustration once she remembered everything they had seen.
What she described wasn’t even everything. She was afraid of scaring her family so she only skimmed over the details. But who wasn’t smart? How could they not understand the things left unsaid?
They had truly not expected things to be so bad. They had thought that even if the government wasn’t been too honest, it wouldn’t be too far off. But what Leng Pan described was too different from what was shown on TV. It was like they were talking about two different worlds.
"If they do this when people run out of food and start to leave their houses to go and look for food and other supplies, they won’t be too vigilant. They will have the mentality that they could avoid the zombies or since the number was so small, they could easily kill them.
But from the situation you just described, a normal human or even a group of unsuspecting and unprepared humans would be sending themselves to their deaths if they went." Uncle Li, who had come out of the kitchen at some point, said.
"Then what do they want for doing this? No wonder, after the personal and private owned TV stations stopped broadcasting, we haven’t seen a scene where a zombie bites a human or humans getting surrounded and killed.
The government-owned channels only show us soldiers shooting a few zombies to death. We should have known that something was wrong." Lu Tao, even being so young also figured that something was cooking, but what?
"We can only prepare ourselves and make ourselves stronger so that we don’t become your young people’s burdens in the future.
I want to start training with you all. I don’t know why but since just now when Panpan sat beside me, I can feel a positive energy in my body. I don’t know what’s happening but it’s not bad." Li Yunjia said after everyone said their piece.
Leng Pan turned to look at Lu Zhen and winked at him.
When he heard his sister’s words, Uncle Li squinted his eyes at the couple and happened to see this scene, he then turned away without leaving a trace.
No one noticed his small and subtle movement.
Aunt Li actually had the same feeling, but hers wasn’t as pronounced so she wasn’t sure if it was the same thing her sister-in-law felt. Thus, she kept quiet about it.
"So, I am not the only one feeling that way? I thought the Feng Shui at their apartment had changed that’s why it was so positive towards my superpower energy, now it seems you are the same." Lu Tao said with a loud laugh.
Everyone else followed suit and laughed along with him but their joy was cut short by Uncle Li’s words.
"Don’t talk about something like that in front of others in the future. It could cause your brother and sister-in-law serious trouble."
Everyone turned to look at him and saw an expression on his face that they had never seen before. It was too serious and dignified. As if he were a different person.
After about two seconds, he went back to his usual cheery self and explained as if he were joking.
"If you say that, people will start to think that there is something special about your brother and sister-in-law. People could kill for power and if they find something or someone that could help them enhance their strength, they would do anything to get it.
If that something or someone happens to be your brother or sister-in-law, they might kidnap them and probably experiment on them without caring that they are human beings.
We are in the apocalypse, people will do anything to survive. Don’t ever underestimate human greed for survival." Even though Uncle Li said this with a smile, nobody could smile or laugh after they heard what he had said.
They hadn’t thought too much before but now, they didn’t dare to even mention what they were experiencing. What if someone with a similar superpower to Lu Tao’s was listening from somewhere? It’s better to be safe than sorry.
The family immediately changed the topic and started talking about what to eat for lunch. freewēbnoveℓ.com
Lu Zhen, however, looked at his uncle with an assessing look. The man a moment ago didn’t look like the uncle whom he grew up seeing around pampering him and fulfilling his every whim.
He had the aura of someone in a high position. Someone with authority and extensive experience. However, since he changed his face too fast, he couldn’t get anything else just by reading his brief change in expression.
But now he was sure that his uncle wasn’t as simple as he seemed.
Of course, Uncle Li knew that he had been too anxious and let something slip, but he was certain that apart from Lu Zhen, nobody else noticed this small slip.
He practically raised the boy, and he knew that he was smart enough to suspect something, but he wouldn’t ask because he had no evidence. So he needn’t worry about anything.
After talking for a while the family went to the dining room to eat dinner as Leng Pan and Lu Zhen had been away through lunch and came back in the evening.
Once dinner was done, Leng Pan and Lu Zhen went back to their apartment.
The first thing they did after going back was take a long shower to wash away the fatigue and anything else that came with that day’s activities.
Leng Pan had said that she would shower first, and Lu Zhen could do so once she was done.
Lu Zhen agreed, but twenty minutes into her shower, she had only finished washing her hair, the bathroom door opened, and Lu Zhen, dripping water from his hair to his chest and the droplets disappearing into the towel tied around his waist, walked in.
Leng Pan was facing away from the door and only turned around when she heard the door open. She found her husband standing there with all his glory looking like her favorite snack.
She couldn’t believe that he would try to seduce her at this time. She had wanted to shower and then practice the new abilities she had developed.
However, this man seemed to have other plans.
"Baby, may I join you?" Lu Zhen asked with a husky voice that caused Leng Pan to literally tremble.
Moreover, he didn’t wait for her to agree before walking to stand in front of her.
