Rewriting My Fate in the Apocalypse-Chapter 343: The End of the Extreme Cold
Leng Pan was sure that Sonny would come back only because she knew where he was and why.
Thus, he stopped worrying as well and patted Vortex on the shoulder.
Only at that moment did Vortex calm down.
"Any more questions?" Leng Pan asked the crowd.
Everyone looked at each other and shook their heads.
They had already calmed down and realized that their earlier outburst had been uncalled for.
They had all watched the video memories stored in the catalyst core that Leng Pan and Lu Zhen had shown them.
Someone who was willing to sacrifice herself to let mankind have a chance of survival would not just not care about her closest teammates and companions.
Thus, there had to be a reason for her not to go looking for Sonny after discovering that he was missing.
Now that they had time to think about it, they realized that with how powerful Leng Pan and Lu Zhen were, there was no way they did not notice someone leaving the team.
Then, there could only be one reason that Sonny had disappeared without a word and without anyone of them noticing. He had permission from the two leaders and they had probably even helped in covering for him so that he could leave undetected.
Silk, Vortex, and Blaze were special elite soldiers who had enhanced abilities even before the apocalypse.
They had gone on dangerous missions that involved them coming and going like ghosts. So, they understood immediately what had happened with Sonny.
He must have gone on a mission.
Thinking of this, they all looked at Leng Pan and Lu Zhen in a new light.
To be able to train someone to such an extent wasn’t easy.
It took them years and special abilities to be able to move like ghosts, but today they realized that there was always someone better.
Now that Sonny’s issue had been resolved, everyone began carrying their supplies back to their apartments.
Before dispersing, Leng Pan gave an order.
"Tomorrow morning everyone will wake up early to harvest ice on the roof.
We have to prepare enough cold stuff for the incoming weather.
Having ice blocks will help. Since I have some remaining space that could fit a few things, let’s cut ice blocks and store them for future use." She had thought of this idea earlier that day when Lu Zhen carved a tunnel in the ice by cutting off blocks of ice.
Everyone thought that it made sense. If they had enough ice, they could put it in basins and have a fan blow cold air into their rooms because from what they had been told about the incoming extreme heat, air conditioning alone might not be enough.
Once they had made their plans for the next day, everyone went back to their houses.
The Lu family didn’t have the strength to cook, so Leng Pan took out the hot pot she had bought from a restaurant before the apocalypse.
There was a variety of hot pot bases to choose from and when everyone saw such an appealing meal in such cold weather, they were overjoyed.
In fact, they had become so accustomed to Uncle Li’s cooking that Leng Pan had almost forgotten about all the food she had ordered before the apocalypse.
That was why she was taking that hotpot out for the first time even when the cold weather had been ongoing for so long.
"Wow! I can’t believe we have been so caught up in training that we forgot about such comforts of life like hot pot in cold weather." Lu Tao commented as he dipped a thin piece of meat in a spicy broth to cook.
The joys of hot pot could only be understood by those who had been freezing outside in a weather of -50 degrees and finally had a chance to taste hot pot.
"Just eat, when the heat arrives, you probably wouldn’t even want to see hot pot, let alone eat it." Li Yunjia said to her younger son who seemed to have forgotten everything in the face of hot pot.
She wondered if the hunger in the apocalypse was contagious. Obviously, Lu Tao had never experienced hunger or a lack of food even after the apocalypse had started, but now he was behaving as if he hadn’t eaten something so good in a long time.
It would be embarrassing if this was during normal times.
"It’s alright, with the way things are, we will probably eat some hot pot in the future. The weather keeps changing to such extremes, something is bound to happen sooner or later." Uncle Li said this to comfort his nephew, but to his surprise much later, they indeed got more opportunities to eat hot pot later on.
"Okay, once you are done eating, everyone go to bed. We need to be up early tomorrow." Li Yunjia said goodnight to everyone and went back to her bedroom.
The others also finished their meal and went to bed.
Early the next morning, Leng Pan was woken up by the constant movement outside their door. 𝙧𝙚𝙚𝔀𝒆𝓫𝓷𝙤𝓿𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝙤𝓶
Even though the soundproofing of the apartment was good, their superpowers had enhanced all their senses. Thus, the noise of people moving about in the corridor of their floor was transmitted to her bedroom.
"Morning Baby." Lu Zhen greeted her when he saw Leng Pan open her eyes.
In fact, he had woken up earlier than she had and waited for her to wake up naturally.
"Morning, Hubby." Leng Pan replied before turning to look towards their bedroom door.
"What’s happening outside?" She asked because of the constant movement outside the door.
"I am guessing the ice piled up outside our door could build a theme park already." Lu Zhen replied lightly as he kissed his wife’s forehead and pulled the blanket back to get out of bed.
"That much? Just how early did they wake up? Did they even sleep?" Leng Pan asked in surprise upon hearing that there was already a lot of ice piled up outside.
"Don’t really know. They were up early." Lu Zhen replied while walking to the bathroom to freshen up.
