Rewriting My Fate in the Apocalypse-Chapter 118: The Dominion Squad
Chapter 118: Chapter 118: The Dominion Squad
In a villa area on the outskirts of the city, a group of five well-built men with varying features and serious expressions sat around a dining table.
However, there was no food on the table, not even a glass of water.
Various devices and weapons were on display on the table. If one were to appear here, they would be scared to death by this set up. After all, heat weapons had always been prohibited and banned in this country. But the weapons on that table were not just heat weapons, they looked like advanced technology that couldn’t and shouldn’t be available in this era.
These weapons and communication devices on the table looked like something out of a sci-fi movie.
However, this was all real and was happening as many people around the world were too worried to sleep even as night fell while others were wondering whether they would survive if they took a chance to go out the following day to try their luck and look for food.
"Vortex, have you been able to pinpoint a direction?" A man with a buzz cut and sharp features asked.
He had arrived in the Capital that day and was eager to finish the mission and go back to the base.
Even though Commander Qiu was a tyrant, he had always followed military laws and never crossed the line.
However, he had noticed recently that things were beginning to change. For some reason, some very advanced weapons with technology that shouldn’t exist had appeared.
They were an elite team that had participated in an experiment that was said to be good for the country and would make the soldiers of their country stronger.
This had motivated him as he was loyal to his country and if participating in an experiment could help his country get stronger to resist powerful enemies, he was willing to take the risks associated with the process.
Many soldiers had died during the experiment, but the number was kept a secret and only a conservative number was given.
However, he suspected that more had actually been done, but since he was only an elite soldier, he didn’t have the authority to ask questions.
What’s more, one of the leaders surnamed Li who had been part of the highest level of security in the laboratory that ran the experiments had turned rogue.
He had used some unknown method to seal the lab and apparently, only his blood or the blood of those related to him by blood could open the seal.
The experimental data had been locked inside together with some test subjects who according to some rumors he had heard were not human.
He had always wondered what was really going on. Was the experiment really meant to strengthen the defense of the country or was there another agenda?
Why would a loyal soldier suddenly turn rogue and destroy something that had taken so many resources to build?
What didn’t sit well with him was the fact that even though he had participated in the experiment and had indeed gained some psychic abilities that could help in interrogating dangerous criminals, he couldn’t remember the exact location of the laboratory the experiment took place.
It’s as if what happened was his imagination, but he was sure that it had happened since he had the psychic powers to prove it.
After the apocalypse started, he started to think that maybe that experiment wasn’t actually meant to strengthen soldiers to fight enemies from other countries.
Maybe they were preparing for this day, but how did they know about it? fгee𝑤ebɳoveɭ.cøm
Now, they had been tasked with finding someone with a space superpower who had taken a special meteorite that, according to their commander, could enhance their power and strength and make them the strongest.
But, a lingering question stayed in his mind? What were they preparing for that even in the apocalypse, instead of the military finding ways to save the citizens, their commander was instead obsessed with finding a meteorite.
Silk didn’t understand what was happening, but he was a soldier and had to obey orders. So, he will first fulfill the mission and bring back the meteorite before starting his own independent investigation.
He had to get to the bottom of this matter and find out what was really going on.
"Not yet. It’s as if this person never existed. If not for the small energy signature that I had found, I would have thought we were chasing a ghost." Vortex replied with frustration as they were dragging out the mission and if the commander got angry, they would be in trouble.
Being locked in solitary confinement was only a small punishment, they might experience something worse.
Therefore, they had to find that meteorite at all costs.
"Let’s go into the city tomorrow and look around. When I came in I noticed that many people had started to go out to look for supplies, we might be lucky and run into the person we are looking for." Silk suggested and the others nodded their heads.
"Do we have any more information about the person who had taken the meteorite?" Another man with a buzz cut asked.
His voice was more restrained and he had a scar running down from his right temple to his chin.
This was Raze, another member of the Dominion Squad who had awakened a strength-type power during the experiment.
However, it seemed that the awakening had a side effect on him. He had developed anger issues that made him want to go on a rampage when slightly irritated.
He had been supplied with drugs to curb his anger but sometimes it gets out of control even with the medication.
For instance, the scar on his face was a result of his anger. He had challenged another soldier who had gotten promoted instead of him because he believed he was stronger and more suitable for the position of a colonel.
However, he had ended up on the losing end even with the other soldier lacking enhanced abilities.
He had since cut down his interactions with others out of his squad partly because it was humiliating and partly because he found that he was losing himself to the thirst for power.
However, that streak seemed to have awakened with the start of the apocalypse. When he heard that getting the meteorite could increase their power, he wanted to get it at any cost.
So, he was eager to get more information.
"We only know that it’s either a man or a woman, which is practically nothing since there are only men and women in this world.
If what I saw was anything to go by then we should be looking for a couple moving together." Blaze said, although he was also aware that what he said was practically nothing.
