Revive Rome: Wait! Why not make the empress fall in love with me first?-Chapter 528 - 38 I Smelled the Scent of a Mission
Airport.
Nora, wearing a straw hat and sunglasses, holding a stylish designer handbag, sat in the airport lounge on a sofa, frequently turning her head to look back.
After politely declining the twelfth wave of male passengers’ attempts to chat her up, she finally saw her sister Kapaxilin return.
"Sis!" Nora said angrily, "Where have you been again! I’ve been waiting for you for more than ten minutes!"
"There was a little issue with the family that I just dealt with," Kapaxilin said indifferently.
"Issue?" A bad premonition suddenly crept into Nora’s mind, "Does it have to do with Aske?"
"It has nothing to do with him," Kapaxilin said calmly.
However, Nora silently released her Mind Reading ability, and after seeing clearly into her sister’s thoughts, her expression immediately changed:
"They went after those gang members?! And people from the Medici Family... Why attack them?"
"Ah." Kapaxilin sighed. Ever since her little sister became a Transcendent, she had been getting bolder and bolder. It was said that just yesterday, when she met Valian, she even dared to attack his colleagues right in front of him.
Now she even dared to read her own mind.
She glared at Nora sternly until Nora looked down, somewhat guiltily. Then Kapaxilin slowly said:
"Aske and the Golden Skull are investigating the gang members who attacked you during that parade."
"Also, the Medici Family was attacked by these gang members last time."
"So we all want to follow this lead to investigate. The people we sent happened to encounter their target and a small conflict occurred. But now the misunderstanding has been cleared up, and your lover and rival are both unharmed."
"What lover..." Nora asked shyly, a bit embarrassed, "So, have they returned yet?"
"Not yet," Kapaxilin frowned, "Because both parties want to clarify the reason for the attack, the Golden Skull and the Lion of Florence are currently interrogating the high-level gang members at the scene."
"I’ll tell you once there are any results."
------------------------------
"I’ve told you!" The gang leader, whose limbs had been severed, screamed under the beating of the Golden Skull, "I just want to find my son!"
"The Lixini Family did not kidnap your son," the captain of the Golden Skull, standing in front of him, spat out with Vesta’s female voice, "Additionally, the municipal database does not show that you have a son."
"Francis is my illegitimate son!" The gang leader raised his bloodied head, glaring viciously at the Transformed People, "I secretly placed him in Sicily!"
"And after you discovered his identity, you kidnapped him five years ago! You think you’re so much better than us, you scum..."
"Stop spouting nonsense," interrupted another "Lion of Florence," saying disdainfully, "Do you really think your lowly status is worth the Medici Family taking action against you?"
"Hahahaha..." The gang leader spat out his bloodstained teeth, bursting into madness, "My son is a Transcendent, he is a Transcendent! You are afraid of the power he holds within! The power that can destroy you! You are afraid! You big corporations and the Church Court, you fear the power of the Transcendents!"
"That’s why you took him! You, you..." Suddenly, a large amount of foam started frothing from his mouth, and his body convulsed strangely, eventually collapsing onto the ground, lifeless.
Aske, accompanied by Peggy and Eleanor, watched all this in silent disbelief from the back of the crowd.
Just moments ago, when everyone was fighting fiercely, everyone suddenly bizarrely stopped shooting and put down their weapons in unison.
Then the captain of the Golden Skull came out to brief Aske and the others, explaining that the two families had urgently communicated and come to a consensus to cease fire, so there was no need to continue the fight.
Eleanor and Peggy both exhibited bewildered expressions. After all, The Azure Longsword was battle-hardened and worldly, but this was their first time witnessing a battle that suddenly ended with a handshake and a truce.
At this point, continuing the fight was out of the question. However, everyone still remembered what they came here to do:
To "negotiate" with these gang members about the recent attack incident.
Consequently, the negotiation with this gang leader, co-chaired by Golden Skull and the Lion of Florence, quickly ended after some violently physical exchanges.
Merely seconds after the words were spoken, the gang leader collapsed onto the ground, frothing at the mouth and convulsing before falling still. A Golden Skull swiftly approached, lifting his eyelids.
"Pupils dilated, he’s dead," he reported after pressing the corpse’s neck for a pulse and taking a blood sample. "An overdose of anesthetic drugs detected in the blood."
"That’s why you shouldn’t have used violent interrogation," Eleanor said, crossing her arms and frowning uncomfortably. "Even if this person was the head of a criminal syndicate, transferring him to the legal authorities would’ve been more appropriate than doling out vigilante justice."
"No, Miss Eleanor," Vesta’s voice countered, "He had ingested a large quantity of anesthetics in an attempt to commit suicide before we captured him."
"Assuming we had treated him humanely, before we could pry open his mouth, he would have suffered from central nervous system overstimulation and loss of control, quickly dying amid hallucinations and incoherent speech."
"The physical methods and coercive questioning we employed at least gave us time to extract some useful information."
Eleanor sighed, not pursuing the argument further.
"We need to take this man’s body," said the Lion of Florence.
"That won’t be possible; the mistress hasn’t agreed," the Golden Skull objected. "The prior communication between us concluded with an agreement on information sharing."
"Then how about this?" proposed the Lion of Florence. "Both parties hand him over to the Church Court, and then we’ll get the corresponding intelligence from them."
"Agreed," said the Golden Skull.
Artificial Intelligence communication is just that succinct—hardly any negotiation, and the parties quickly reached an agreement.
A few Transformed People were dispatched to deliver the body to the Church Court, while the rest returned to their respective camps.
As they were leaving, Aske glanced at the body of the gang leader now zipped into a body bag and suddenly had a strange premonition and intuition.
Something felt off.
If it’s an attack on the families of Italy simultaneously, the matter is quite serious. In the original game, considering the planners’ tendencies, it would definitely be the start of a major storyline quest chain.
But why hadn’t I heard of any plot like this?
The son is a Transcendent, who mysteriously disappeared five years ago. So, the gang leader, as the father, went mad and began plotting the kidnappings of scions from important families. Just for revenge? No, that was just his babbling under the influence of anesthetics.
The plan must’ve been to kidnap offspring from influential families and then extort them for the relevant information.
After all, for a missing Transcendent, excluding the chance of accidental death, the likely perpetrators are either the financiers or the Church Court, or other Transcendents.
The latter is actually quite improbable, because in the core radiation zone of the Technology Camp like the Italian peninsula, which Transcendent wouldn’t behave with caution?
Especially Low Rank Transcendents; they hardly dare conflict with other Transcendents because conflict means exposure, and then the Inquisition and Demon Hunters would come knocking...
So, the gang leader’s suspicion that the Church Court or the wealthy families were involved is a quite normal and reasonable conjecture.
But the problem returns to the original one: simultaneous attacks on the Lixini and Medici Families isn’t a small affair. It’s likely a prelude to some large-scale storyline instance.
Why haven’t I ever heard of it? If there truly was such a major quest in the original game, and it had never been triggered successfully by players...
Should I lead a team to try it out? After all, the rewards for major quests are usually substantial, and this time there are definitely no other professional studios or club guilds competing with us...
