Chapter 525: Chapter 35: A Simple Test

Time rewound to before Aske and the others had departed.

Miel, Mia, and Medea arrived at the ground floor of the Lysine Hall at the time previously agreed upon with Rasul, only to find no sign of anyone.

"Could it be because you came, Medea, that the master is avoiding us and refuses to meet?" Mia exclaimed, turning pale.

"How could that be?" Medea rolled her eyes. "Am I that scary?"

"It’s not about being scary or not," Miel speculated. "Maybe he just doesn’t want to meet with you."

"But according to what you said, if he can foresee the future, then he should know that I mean him no harm," Medea frowned, puzzled.

She carefully surveyed her surroundings through her Mind Vision. Besides the doorkeeper and the staff, there were no others present in the hall.

The doorkeeper quickly noticed the red-haired woman watching him and glanced back curiously.

Feeling the unfamiliar man’s gaze, Medea quickly grew uncomfortable and turned away awkwardly.

Yet the doorkeeper continued to stare straight at her, as if sensing something amiss; the other staff members around started looking over as well.

Stare.

Being watched so intently by so many people for an extended period, even the bold Mia felt that something was off, and she looked around vigilantly, her right hand resting on the weapon concealed inside her garment.

"I see," Medea said with a cold laugh, looking at these people. "He has already arrived."

"What do you mean, ’arrived’?" Miel asked nervously.

"The puppets he’s manipulating," Medea said. "He really is audacious. Isn’t he afraid of being discovered by the Church Court?"

"The master told us before that he has ways to deceive the Church Court," Mia said.

"Not necessarily," Medea scoffed. "If he could openly stir trouble right under the Church Court’s nose and still remain undetected, why doesn’t he just plant a nuclear bomb underneath the Ratlan Palace? Would he need to go through so much trouble to nurture you?"

After reading the minds of those around her for a moment, Medea nodded and headed towards the exit: "I understand now."

"What do you understand?" Miel and Mia quickly followed after her.

"This is a test, a probe to see if I am worthy of contacting him," Medea said without turning back. "And these people, whom he has sent to draw our attention, are the riddle to be solved."

"I’ve just sifted through these people’s thoughts. There are a total of 13 people in the hall: 2 doorkeepers, 2 door boys, 2 tellers, 4 cleaners, and 3 security staff. Their minds all have backdoors implanted, deliberately placed at the most superficial layer of their Mind Bodies, obviously inserted not too long ago and intended for me to find."

"The only commonality in their memories is that they had all once entered a restaurant around the street corner. This restaurant is located at the crossroads to the west of the Lysine Building street, serving both breakfast and lunch, and it’s where the employees typically dine."

Upon arriving at the restaurant, Medea, with Mia and Miel, entered the establishment and approached the checkout counter, striking up a conversation with the waitress:

"This place is very close to the Lysine Building, isn’t it?"

"Yes," the waitress smiled. "Do you work there?"

"No," Medea smiled slightly. "I am a guest."

"Come off it, sister," the waitress looked at her with a knowing gaze. "The Lysine Building has its own luxurious restaurant that only serves guests, so only their employees would come here to dine."

"Other than the Lysine Building’s employees, do many other customers come to dine here?" Medea continued to ask.

"Well, as you can see, I’m actually quite busy..." The waitress’s eyes darted past her to Miel and Mia.

"Two ice cream cones," Medea handed over some cash. "The extra is for your tip."

"Right away, dear customer," the waitress said with a sweet smile, stuffing the banknote into her blouse before heading over to the ice cream machine next to the counter. She served up two ice cream cones and handed them to Miel and Mia, giving their heads a friendly pat.

"Actually, it’s mostly the employees from your side who come here." The waitress said with pride, "Our food quality might not compare to Lysine Kitchen, but it’s top-notch in Solomon City. Only employees from the Lysine Building can afford our prices."

"Got it," Medea looked up at the recruitment notice on the wall and asked, "Are you still hiring for a cashier?"

"Yeah," the waitress responded, "Daniel resigned this morning, so the boss is planning to hire someone new."

"I bet he only worked half a day," Medea said.

"How did you know?" the waitress asked in surprise, "He was just hired yesterday afternoon but resigned at noon today."

"Because he achieved his goal," Medea patted her shoulder with a smirk, "Stay safe, sister."

The waitress was confused by her words and suddenly felt a wave of nausea. She then seemed to remember something and hurried off with a pale face.

After leaving the restaurant with the two girls, Miel couldn’t help but say,

"Medea, you sure hold a grudge. Just because she tried to extort you, you used Mind Suggestion to make her think she accidentally got pregnant?"

"Do you think my money is that easy to extort?" Medea snorted coldly and said, "Anyway, the answer is this Daniel. He planted thought backdoors in those employees while taking payments this morning and manipulated them to appear before us."

"Do you have any clues about this Daniel?"

"Clues? Didn’t you read minds just now?" Miel asked.

"I did," Medea replied, "That guy named Daniel disguised his appearance, nothing noteworthy. The only possible clue is his resume, but that idiot waitress forgot where she put it."

"Resume?" Mia, who was eating her ice cream, took a piece of paper out of her bag, "You mean this?"

"Where did that come from?" Medea took the resume in surprise.

"I saw it in the crevice under the counter," Mia said, "I just picked it up."

"Mmm," Medea read the resume carefully, a slight smile appearing on her lips, "This guy’s employment history claims that he once was a tailor for suits, and he even provided a detailed address—couldn’t be a more obvious hint."

"A suit tailor?" Miel and Mia exchanged glances, suddenly recalling their last meeting with Rasul in a suit shop.

Was it a hint?

Following Medea to the specified address, they indeed found a corner tailor shop, but the door was adorned with a "Closed for Today" sign.

Medea pushed, and the door wasn’t locked.

Upon entering, the three girls saw Rasul sitting behind the counter, grinning at everyone.

"Is this a hidden branch of the Assassin Organization?" Medea closed the shop door and asked nonchalantly as if making small talk.

"Not really," Rasul said, "This is just my old friend’s shop. He’s off to vacation in Sardinia, and I’m looking after it for him."

"So what should I call you?" Medea squinted her eyes, "An assassin mentor? Mia’s master?"

"Or the Anti-Christ?"

"Just call me by my name." Rasul replied, pointing to a chair beside the counter, "Seat?"

"No, thanks," Medea declined, "You know why."

"Fear of men," Rasul tapped the desktop, "Quite an awkward psychological issue, especially for an Enchanting Demon."

"Better than antisocial personality disorder," Medea quipped with a cold laugh, "You’re the one subtly influencing Emperor Otto’s mind, pushing him to attack the Church Court, aren’t you?"
