Revive Rome: Wait! Why not make the empress fall in love with me first?-Chapter 518 - 28 Don’t Tell the Squad Leader
Back at the Lysine Building, they took the elevator up.
When the elevator doors opened, the three girls saw Thira standing in the middle of the hall, her back strapped with a strange backpack device.
Aske stood behind her, holding a manual and carefully studying the instrument panel on the surface of the backpack.
Eleanor was sitting in a rocking chair nearby, watching them with interest.
"So that’s how it works," Aske said. "I’ve figured it out."
"I don’t believe you," Thira pouted, turning her head to sweetly call out to Nora, "Sister Nora!"
"Just in time for your return, help me set up this Shield."
"Alright." Nora stepped forward while Aske, with a wry smile, handed her the manual.
"Hmm..." Nora carefully read the manual and began to operate the instruments, "First, reset everything to factory settings..."
"... adjust the parameters..."
"... set the direction of force to push outwards, otherwise, it will trap the user..."
"... it’s recommended to adjust the range to around 1.2 meters, and the base should have a flexible fit to adapt to the terrain..."
"Done!" Nora put down the manual. "It’s all set, you can activate the Shield now."
"That’s exactly what I deduced," Aske said, moving in front of Thira and reaching for the button on her waistband.
Thira immediately guarded her waistband with both hands as if facing a great enemy: "What are you doing?"
"It’s all adjusted," Aske said.
"Even so, you’re not the one to press it," Thira said nervously. "Step back, I’ll press it myself."
"Oh." Aske stepped back a few paces.
Thira let out a sigh of relief, prepared to press the button, but as she suddenly lifted her gaze and saw Aske’s face, her heartbeat unavoidably began to quicken.
Recalling the wonderful sensation of their close embrace, Thira felt her heart fluttering like a startled deer. She quickly turned around, presenting her back to Aske.
That felt much better. Yes, she would avoid looking at him head-on from now on.
Aske: .........
Why did it feel like he was inexplicably being disliked?
"Um, Aske!"
Thira ran off to test the Shield. As Aske turned around, he heard the three voices speak up at once.
Miel, Nora, and Mia exchanged surprised looks.
"You go first?" Nora said with a smile.
"Sister Nora, you first," Miel said sweetly.
"Aske!" While they were being polite to each other, Mia spoke up directly, "Let’s go have dinner!"
"Oh, okay." Aske saw it was about time and nodded in agreement.
On one side, the Squad Leader teleported to Fire Island, calling out the remaining four girls; on the other side, Nora summoned the butler to instruct the kitchen to prepare dinner.
Since it was already dinnertime, most of the ingredients had been processed in advance, and the chefs were all standing by, ready to cook as soon as Miss Nora placed the order.
After Nora chose the dinner menu for the evening, the butler bowed and took his leave. Before he had walked out of the elevator, he saw Mia quickly signaling him.
Butler: ?????
He held the elevator door open and cast a puzzled look at Mia. Taking advantage of a moment when the others were chatting in small groups, she stealthily moved away from everyone’s line of sight and approached, asking:
"Is there steak tonight?"
"There isn’t," the butler said with a smile. "Tonight, Miss Nora has selected black truffle stewed squab, pan-fried cod with ham slices, and charcoal-grilled squid with lime crab."
"Add a sirloin steak and a fillet steak," Mia said earnestly, pretending to supplement the menu on behalf of Nora.
"Sure," the butler said with a laugh. He could easily tell it was Mia who wanted to eat, but as the young lady’s guest was his guest, such a small request could certainly be fulfilled.
As the young ladies took their seats, the butler pushed up the cart filled with a lavish dinner.
Everyone had nothing but praise for the quality of the Lixini Family’s food. Admittedly, the meals Nora prepared on Fire Island were also delicious, but they simply couldn’t compare with the professional culinary team of the wealthy family.
Especially Mia, with a steak in her left hand, another in her right, her knife and fork flickering like the wind as she cut, she ate with such gusto it seemed her tongue might fall out. Miel couldn’t help but smile as she watched Mia wolfing down her food.
The other young ladies watched her speechlessly. However, considering that little Mia was growing, they all tacitly ignored her making a special meal for herself.
After a satisfying meal, everyone found a place to rest and didn’t return to Fire Island... after all, although the island’s scenery wasn’t bad, having looked at it for a year, they were already tired of it. Instead, the urban nightscape outside the window, constructed from a forest of steel, neon lights, and holographic images, had an extremely bustling charm that offered a novel flavor.
Watching advertisements was like watching short video clips.
"Ha ha ha! So stupid!" Sigrdrifa, watching the security system advertisement on the screen opposite, couldn’t help but burst out laughing as some unlucky thief got his pants bitten by the homeowner’s dog just as he was escaping the yard.
If this girl just sat quietly without speaking, with her fair and delicate face, well-proportioned and slender figure, and pure white hair, she had the air of a classical beauty.
But the moment she spoke, that natural grace would evaporate, changing the impression of her from "such a pretty girl" to "what a shame such a pretty girl is actually a dumbass."
Miel sat by the pool, glancing hesitantly at Aske, her smooth and slender feet nervously stirring the water.
Medea sat beside her and said with a smile,
"If you’re unsure whether you should talk to the Squad Leader, communicating with me is also an option."
Miel didn’t speak.
"You know?" Medea said softly, looking out at the city’s nightscape. "Sometimes, a person’s experience is like a circle, and their perspective is like the circumference."
"The more things you know, the bigger your circle gets, and the circumference grows accordingly. The cost of broadening your perspective is that you’ll encounter increasingly more things you don’t understand."
"Even somebody like you has things they don’t understand?" Miel asked softly.
"Yes," Medea replied with a faint smile. "Whether it’s Medea or Camellia..."
"There are always things I don’t understand and want to confirm." She unconsciously licked the corner of her mouth.
Miel was silent for a moment before she forced a wry smile. "Since you’ve set your sights on me, you, with your ability to read minds, must already know what I’m troubled about."
She looked around to make sure the other girls were standing far away, then whispered Rasul’s matter to Medea, who listened attentively to her story while using her mind-reading ability to assess how well her words matched the facts. Her thoughts flickered through her mind like lightning.
"First of all, I’m happy that you’re willing to trust me," Medea said with a slight smile. "Secondly, the matter that’s troubling you isn’t actually worth the concern."
"How so?" Miel asked.
"First, there are many unknowns in this world, and most you won’t have a chance to figure out in your lifetime." Medea raised one finger. "So, you should seize the advantages you can, rather than worry about dangers you can’t confirm."
"Second," she raised another finger. "Whatever Rasul’s true intentions may be, at least the benefits he’s extending in wooing you are tangible. Of course, I’m sure he has things he’s hiding from you."
"After all, language is such a tool. It was not invented to state facts, but to persuade the other party. Flattery, bias, and evasion are all used to achieve the speaker’s intent."
"But if that’s the case, why..." Miel tried to follow up.
"I’ve said it before, because the benefits he’s offering are real." Medea replied. "Rather than being timid, it’s better to boldly take his benefits and then observe and analyze his real motives."
"After all, whether or not to become the next... that one, at least for now, the initiative is in your hands, isn’t it?"
"Yes," Miel nodded. "That is to say, I should still proceed according to his arrangements for now."
"Mmm," Medea beamed. "And before you make your real decision, don’t tell anyone — including Aske."
"Why?" Miel asked perplexedly.
"Because Nora can’t find out about this matter." Medea gave her a knowing look. "After all, our dear Squad Leader usually occupies 99% of Nora’s attention."
"I see," Miel realized immediately.
"If you’re still uneasy, next time you go to see Rasul," Medea suggested, "I’ll go with you."
"You’ll come with us?"
"Yes," Medea said. "I can also help check out..."
"... the Anti-Christ’s real motives."
