Revenge Wears Red Lipstick-Chapter 148: Caught Again
"Then who do you need to take care of?"
Rico’s lips immediately thinned into a straight line. He tore his gaze from Ryan as if the latter had the ability to read his mind. He refocused his vision on an older woman sitting on a wheelchair. She was being pushed by a younger woman from behind her. Despite her state, she was smiling while she conversed with the younger woman.
Rico couldn’t help but see his mother in the older woman. She couldn’t walk and now, because of his father’s mistakes, her health was going to be affected by it.
"Hey! Are you listening to me?" Ryan asked as he flicked his finger in front of Rico, pulling him back from his thoughts. 𝗳𝐫𝚎𝗲𝚠𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝘃𝚎𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝗺
"I’m alright," Rico lied through his teeth. His brown eyes settled on Ryan’s dark ones. Staring right into them felt like staring into a bottomless pit that seemed to want to feed on his soul.
It scared him and yet kept him curious about Ryan.
"Don’t mind me. I just have to do something for my father. It’s a quick errand," he replied.
Ryan didn’t seem to believe that and waited for Rico to continue. But the latter only bit his lips while his eyes wandered away from meeting Ryan’s gaze.
"You came to see Dante right?" Rico asked to change the subject. "Let’s go inside." He walked away while his heart skipped several beats, sending his pulse running a marathon.
When they reached the elevator, Ryan couldn’t keep his words to himself.
"If you need any help with anything at all, just let me know."
Rico paused. If only it was that easy. He’d already done his research on Ryan’s background. His parents were already dead but he owned a tech company and lived well off. However, money couldn’t solve the issue at hand because the sleazebag his father wanted him to be with wasn’t after money at all.
He was after him.
Rico took a deep breath before he faced Ryan with a small smile that didn’t touch his tired eyes.
"Thanks for that, but I don’t need your help. I can handle anything you know." He tried to play it off as a joke but Ryan wore a stoic expression, looking like an iceberg impossible to crack. "It really isn’t a big issue at all." Then Rico revealed a big smile as if that was supposed to ease Ryan’s worries.
Instead of insisting, Ryan gave a curt nod, dropping the matter.
When the elevator opened at their destined floor, they stepped out and walked towards the VIP hospital room where Dante was receiving treatment.
Rico pushed the door open, only for them to find Dante leaning so close to Eva’s face, close enough for them to kiss.
Seeing them, Eva jumped out of the bed so fast like she’d been caught committing a crime.
Her cheeks were flushed pink when her gaze settled on Ryan and Rico.
Dante was the complete opposite. He was already playing how he was going to murder the duo that just interrupted his moment with Eva. And If it wasn’t for his condition, he could have executed the act already.
"Guess I interrupted again," Rico mumbled under his breath. "Sorry about that." He scratched the back of his head in an embarrassing manner. "Anyway, I’m here to tell you that your father is no longer at the mansion. He managed to escape before the officers arrived there. I think your mother went with him."
Dante wasn’t surprised by Rico’s information at all. He’d expected all of this to happen. He knew his father wouldn’t step down so easily, especially now that most of his partners in crime had left him to handle his downfall all by himself.
"Have you checked all of the hideouts and every possible location where he could be hiding?" He asked Rico.
"I did." He sighed. "But he wasn’t in any of them. He probably bought a property somewhere or someone took him in."
"Of course," Dante mumbled to himself.
Searching for his father was a major priority but it was also impossible to find someone who didn’t want to be found, which left him with only one option—wait until his father contacted him by himself.
"He’ll come around for sure," he said, a small grin on his face. "Thanks for everything Rico. You should rest for the rest of the week."
"It took you this long to say that." Rico rolled his eyes back. He faced Eva and waved her goodbye which she returned, still flustered after being caught almost kissing Dante. "I’ll be leaving now." He said to Ryan who nodded before he left the hospital room.
"I came to pick you up," Ryan said to Eva. Instantly, the temperature in the room dropped.
Ryan completely ignored Dante who was silently fuming.
"I managed to find CCTV footage of the shooter," he added.
"Don’t you think I should see this footage?" Dante asked.
When he’d seen Ryan walk in through that door with Rico, his stomach immediately soured and all he wanted was to ignore his presence. However, Ryan had plans of taking Eva away from him.
"I think all you need to focus on at the moment is to recover from the gun shot," Ryan replied. "Besides, I don’t think you can identify the man from the footage so use that time to rest up, hmm?" Ryan gave a mockery tight smile.
Dante’s eyes twitched from the tone Ryan had just used on him so he wasn’t going to let him have his way.
However, before he could say anything, Eva interrupted.
"I think Ryan is right. You should rest up and we’ll find out who the shooter is and get him arrested as soon as possible."
Her words pierced his heart like a dagger had just been stabbed into him.
"But I can get up from here so we can go together," he insisted.
"Your wound is only going to open up," she replied, her tone firm. "We’ll leave now. I’ll be back later."
With that, Eva left with Ryan while Dante glared so hard at Ryan that it looks could kill, the latter would be laying six feet under the ground.
