Returning to the Mysterious Era-Chapter 492 - Using The Human Body To Fight A Natural Disaster (1)
Chapter 492 - Using The Human Body To Fight A Natural Disaster (1)
The meteorite, wreathed in flames and intense heat, finally exploded.
A thunderous roar rang out as a dense white ring rippled outward from the shattered meteorite, carrying massive shockwaves. Those gathered near the manor, whether standing or seated, felt a gale strike their faces, making it nearly impossible to keep their eyes open.
The gusts of wind were followed by massive pressure from the sky. They felt their shoulders and necks grow heavy, and some of the injured even dropped to their knees under the pressure.
Whoosh!
The gale swept across the ground and through a sea of trees.
The onlookers looked up, only to find that the massive ball of flaming rock had vanished, leaving behind countless small fiery meteors that shot toward the earth like a rain of stone, tracing streaks of red across the sky.
The sight of the meteorite bursting like fireworks was imprinted in Fog Man's vision. He reached up and removed his black hood, revealing a face of stark contrasts that seemed momentarily dazed.
In that moment, Fog Man thought he heard something by his ear. It was not the crash of the fiery rain overhead, nor the heavy sighs of astonishment from those around him.
Rather, it sounded like a bullet train zipping past!
No, it was not a train; it was a python, a sonic snake! The snake's scales exploded and reverberated each time it advanced through the chaotic void. It was a sonic disaster, bringing devastation and death wherever it passed.
Fog Man froze in confusion and shock at the scene conjured by the sound.
"This is a fist technique...Covert Martial Arts! It's the Director of the Treatment Ward's Covert Martial Arts! A meteorite falling from the sky was smashed to bits just like that..." He mumbled to himself, his eyes gradually turning feverish, "Using a human body to oppose a natural cataclysm...He actually did it! This is the Director of the Treatment Ward's absolute power. It's so mighty, so marvelous!"
He spread his arms toward the sky, revealing a fanatical fervor like that of a new convert, exclaiming, "This is the true power beyond mere mortals! I once believed I had glimpsed the Director of the Treatment Ward's level when he destroyed the Eclipse Society, but it turned out to be only the tip of the iceberg! Ha, how foolish I was! How could I ever judge his vast might by the standards of ordinary masters..."
He kept mumbling to himself, seeming somewhat unhinged. However, in that situation, none of the others from the Treatment Ward paid him any attention. Nearby, Nine Serpents was also gazing at the sky, lost in thought.
Odo, who had trained in Illusory Moon Fist, wore an expression of deep reflection, recalling what Cassius had said earlier: the meteorite had been coming for him.
He had to wonder. Could the Director of the Treatment Ward have grown so powerful that heaven and earth sought to destroy him? Yet judging by the scene before them, it seemed fate was powerless to prevail. So what if a meteorite was hurled down? It had still been blasted apart by the Director’s iron fists.
Everyone from the Treatment Ward scattered for cover. A rain of meteor fragments fell from the sky, blasting open craters as they landed.
Some were taller than a person, while others were only the size of a fist. However, even in fragments, they still packed a formidable punch that was on par with artillery shells.
In an instant, the flat ground around the manor was riddled with craters, and fires spread through the lush forest, leaving blotches of devastation. Explosions resonated throughout the woods.
Close to the manor, Anthony and the blonde girl, who had given up fleeing, trembled in fear. They dragged themselves over to what remained of a wall, watching the fiery stones rain down and feeling the ground shake.
Luckily, not many fragments fell on their spot, perhaps because they were close to the manor. After all, Cassius had collided with the meteorite above the manor. After it shattered, the debris flew in all directions, leaving relatively little falling directly beneath.
Even so, half of the manor was destroyed by the meteor shower. In just over ten seconds, a large part of the forest was devastated. Trees were smashed in clusters, and raging fires ignited.
Anthony and the blonde girl looked around, then exchanged silent glances.
A moment earlier, they had been shocked and excited by their killing moves colliding, forming the steam skeleton that amplified their power by at least tenfold. After all, the raging explosion had wiped out half of the manor.
Now, however, even the smallest aftershocks from the shattered meteorite alone had destroyed the remaining half of the manor. The stronger shockwaves obliterated wide stretches of the forest.
Needless to say, if the meteorite had fallen in one piece without being shattered, it likely would have triggered an earthquake spreading far and wide, overturning the land and obliterating everything.
Yet, that same meteorite brimming with terrifying power had been shattered in midair by a single individual! That cold man in a black windbreaker!
The disparity was so immense that it defied comparison. Thus, as they fought each other, they wondered into what sort of deadly lair they had stumbled. They had not even settled their grudge. Their combined technique had been subdued by a complete stranger, and then they had been forced to witness a meteorite shower firsthand. They truly felt unbelievably unlucky.
Anthony silently vowed that if he managed to survive, next time he fought someone with all his strength, even if it was a fight to the death, he would definitely check his surroundings carefully. He did not wish to die at the hands of some passerby before settling things with his sworn enemy.
While meteorite fragments rained down on the former Blood Race manor in the outskirts of Bright Mountain City, a group dressed in black robes watched from afar near a river halfway up the Alphama mountain range. Their faces were as pale as a corpse.
They focused on the manor.
"A meteorite? That aura felt terrifying... even from this distance, it gave me the sense of impending doom," said the black-robed figure at the forefront, speaking slowly. "Thankfully, it did not fall our way. If it had struck at the foot of the mountain, it might have collapsed some of our tunnels..."
"If it had landed on the mountainside, it would have been even worse..."
"Though our Blood Race stands above lowly humans, we must still respect the forces of nature that can so easily reshape terrain. Only those said to approach the True Progenitor of Blood would be able to do something of that magnitude alone. That level seems more like a myth..."
"Send some of our people to investigate the crash site."
The black-robed figures discussed in hushed, solemn tones.
After a brief silence, the leading black-robed figure spoke again. "By the way, has Bain Manor readied their supply of bloodfood? Fifteen virgins under sixteen. It's been more than twenty days, so it should be set, right? David, Taya, go retrieve them within the next day or two. The esteemed ones in the nest require a fresh infusion of blood."
"Yes," two of them replied at once, accepting the order.
"Lord Frans, what about those Mercury Hunters? According to Bain's report, they have been stirring recently." A member of the Blood Race beside the leader suddenly asked.
"Ignore those vermin," Frans replied dismissively. "Do you think they have managed to remain near the Alphama mountains by their own strength? We simply allow it. As long as there is a transcendent force in Shire County opposing us, the Dark Hunter Organization will not fix its gaze on us or pay much attention here. Their power is limited, after all, and will be used where the situation is most dire."
"I see. I always wondered why we didn't wipe out those Mercury Hunters. They're so weak and overconfident. They can’t even defeat the branch line Blood Race gathered in Shire County, yet they dream of someday storming the Alphama Mountains to challenge our direct bloodline. They truly fail to see their folly..." A few nearby Blood Race members hurled curses at them, and the rest all laughed mockingly. freewёbnoνel-com
Their attitude was one of ridicule, believing the hunters to be ants trying to topple a tree. They seemed to enjoy toying with these foolish frogs in a well. To them, the hunters were nothing more than insects.
Half an hour later, Cassius stood beside the dried up lake in the collapsed ruins of the manor's courtyard, reflecting on the ultimate move he just performed: Sound Nest Convection.
It had been a thoroughly satisfying strike, releasing every emotion and intention in his heart with that one punch.
The acupoints for his Southern Dipper Sonic Snake Fist felt empty within his body, yet it brought a sense of clear and absolute harmony.
Another breakthrough was about to happen.
