Return of the Legendary Runesmith-Chapter 192 - 191- Guardian(2)
Chapter 192: Chapter 191- Guardian(2)
What’s the best way to defeat something that can change its element based on your attack?
Confuse it.
Adrian gripped his spear tightly, the runes on the handle glowing faintly. The air around him stirred with magic.
Across the hall, the golem stood still—watching him. Not attacking.
It was guarding something important, no doubt. And it was waiting for him to make the first move.
’I didn’t dig this deep just to leave empty-handed.’
Water began to swirl around him, spinning in a fast current as Adrian prepared to strike.
The golem’s runes shifted—wind. It had changed to counter him again.
Tch. Of course.
Adrian dashed forward, then slammed the base of his spear into the floor. The impact shook the ground.
From that point, a wave of water exploded outward like a tide, racing toward the golem.
But—
FWOOOOOOSH
The water split apart mid-air, scattered by violent gusts of wind swirling around the golem’s body.
Adrian sighed, annoyed.
"This thing is broken..." he muttered, watching the spell fall apart before it could even touch the target.
He holstered his spear and drew his revolver.
With quick aim, he fired two shots into the air.
The first bullet opened a glowing portal in the ceiling.
The second vanished into it—
—before reappearing through another portal right above the golem’s head.
BOOOOOOM
A fire-infused bullet exploded on impact, lighting the top of the golem in flames.
For a second, Adrian thought it worked—
But then, a dark vortex formed in front of the golem’s face and sucked in all the fire, just like it had done with his bullet earlier.
No damage.
Adrian narrowed his eyes.
This thing could analyze, adapt, and erase his spells.
No more games.
He gripped his spear again and twirled it, the blade catching the golden light of the room. His feet dug into the ground as he launched forward—
This time, going in for close combat.
’Let’s see how fast you change when my blade is in your face.’
Adrian lunged forward with a burst of speed, his runes flaring to life as his spear crackled with energy. He wasn’t going to give the golem time to analyze or react.
The golem’s red eyes locked onto him.
CLANG—SHHHK
From both its arms, two long blades slid out—one glowing faintly with lightning, the other etched with jagged frost runes.
Adrian swung first, a sweeping arc aimed at its chest, but—
CLANG!
The golem blocked it with its right blade and retaliated with a lightning-fast slash from the left. Adrian barely twisted his body in time, the cold edge scraping across his ribs.
"Tch—!" He winced but didn’t stop. His spear snapped forward like a whip, jabbing toward the golem’s shoulder.
THUNK
The spear struck metal—but only left a mark. Not even deep. The golem shoved him back with its heavy arm, forcing Adrian to stagger a few steps.
The right stabbed forward—he leaned back, the tip slicing his suit.
Then, a spinning strike aimed at his legs—
He jumped, flipped mid-air, and swung his spear downward as he came down. The strike hit its shoulder—
CRACK
A burst of sparks flew out—but again, just surface damage.
The golem didn’t even flinch.
It raised its knee and drove it into Adrian’s stomach mid-landing.
"Guh—!" Adrian choked as the air was knocked out of his lungs and he was thrown across the hall, tumbling across the floor.
He rolled back to his feet, panting hard, his side aching, a smear of blood on his shirt.
The golem walked slowly toward him again, blades scraping against the floor.
Still calm. Still unfazed.
Adrian smirked bitterly, wiping his lip.
"You’re a tough bastard... I’ll give you that."
Adrian muttered, sliding his spear back into his storage and rolling his shoulders. A low hum filled the air as mana surged around him. His skin prickled. His limbs felt light—dangerously so.
A faint glow lit up in his eyes, and the ground beneath his boots cracked slightly.
A thin, translucent layer of mana wrapped his body, blurring the edges of his figure. The air around him grew heavier, dense with pressure.
Across the room, the golem tilted its head. The blades vanished—sucked back into its arms with a sharp clink, and instead, it raised its fists.
"Eh? Chivalry?" Adrian scoffed, stepping forward with a wild grin.
Then—boom. He was gone.
In a blink, he closed the distance, a blur of movement as his enhanced body tore through the still air.
Steam hissed from his mouth as he exhaled. His right fist, wrapped in dense mana, rocketed toward the golem’s face. ƒгeeweɓn૦vel.com
THUNK!
The blow landed flush.
The golem staggered back, a loud creak echoing through the hall. Adrian dropped back to the ground with a roll and looked up.
A dent.
A clean, shallow dent marked the center of its faceplate.
Adrian’s grin widened.
"Heh. So you can bleed metal."
The golem froze for half a breath—then rushed him.
The golem lunged.
Its metal fists tore through the air, each swing heavy enough to crush stone. But Adrian ducked, sidestepped, and leaned in close.
WHAM!
He drove a knee into its midsection, cracking one of the runes on its stomach—then spun around and elbowed its jaw.
CRACK!
Sparks flew.
But the golem didn’t flinch.
BAM!
Its arm swept sideways and slammed into Adrian’s ribs like a battering ram. His body twisted in the air before smashing into the wall with a heavy thud.
"Kh—!" Adrian grunted, spitting blood as he staggered out of the crater.
He couldn’t afford to stay down.
The golem came charging again.
Adrian dropped low, hands glowing, and punched the ground.
BOOM!
A small blast of wind and stone sent dust upward—blinding the golem just enough for him to jump and plant both feet on its chest.
Using that momentum, he flipped over the golem’s head and delivered a solid hammerfist to the back of its neck.
THUNK!
Another dent. Not deep, but enough to slow it down for a second.
Adrian landed, panting hard.
His right arm trembled—he’d overused the strengthening.
The golem suddenly spun, its foot dragging across the floor—kick!
"Gah—!"
Adrian flew back, crashing against a pillar that cracked down the middle.
He groaned, barely catching himself before he could collapse.
The golem started working forward, when suddenly static noise erupted and the upper half of the Golem fell forward.
Adrian exhaled, long and heavy, sweat mixing with blood on his face. His legs nearly gave out, but he stayed on his feet—barely.
"Whoever built you..." he muttered again, his voice cracking, "...was annoyingly genius."
He glanced down at the sword still humming faintly on the floor, its edge still glowing from the surge of mana he’d poured into that final strike. His arm hung limp now, the muscles in his shoulder screaming in protest.
That technique—Crescent Severance—was advised not to be used with the relic itself. But he had to.
And it worked.
"This ends here."
His voice was hoarse, but resolute.
The golem’s red eyes dimmed, finally extinguishing as its body shut down.
Clang.
Adrian picked up hilt and stored it in the Time Chamber.
Behind the remains of the golem, the sealed gate it had been guarding stood silent. Dust fell in slow drifts. Something important was behind that door—he could feel it.
And now, finally, it was his to uncover.
"Now then..." he whispered, walking forward with faltering steps, "Let’s see what you were protecting so desperately."
