Chapter 58: Chapter 58 Gambling Stone Circle

Nalan Feng thought he was safe.

But Wu Tian simply smiled, a bone-chillingly cold grin.

"He must be blinded. He must live a life worse than death and suffer the countless torments of this world!"

What?

Wu Tian’s words left everyone stunned. Even after Nalan Jie had made his position clear, Wu Tian still made this choice? Everyone wondered if Wu Tian had lost his mind.

But Wu Tian paid no mind to their opinions. With a flick of his finger, Spiritual Power suddenly surged forth. The very air seemed to tremble.

"AHHH!"

A pained scream tore through the air, though no one saw what had happened. When the crowd looked, they saw that Nalan Feng’s eyes had burst, blood streaming down his face.

"AHHHH! My eyes, my eyes! Father, my eyes are gone!"

Nalan Feng never expected Wu Tian would actually dare to take his eyes. He had no time to react, no chance to see what was happening before they burst. The agony from his eyes made him curl into a ball on the ground, on the verge of passing out. Fainting would have been a mercy. Instead, he was trapped in a bizarre state, suffering endless torment within an Illusion Realm.

Nangong Yi and the others stared at Wu Tian in disbelief. They never imagined that the friendly-seeming man could be so ruthless, showing no mercy to his enemies.

Wu Tian’s cold gaze swept over the crowd before landing on Nangong Yi. "The same goes for you," he said indifferently. "From now on, you will be trapped in inescapable nightmares every night. The suffering you feel in them will be as real as any pain in this world."

Nangong Yi’s legs began to tremble uncontrollably.

"This... this..." Nalan Jie was at a loss for what to do.

"What are you standing there for? Get him to the hospital!" Xiao Liang roared.

Jolted back to reality, Nalan Jie hurriedly called for his men to rush Nalan Feng to the hospital.

The scene became eerily quiet. Everyone was silent, unsure of what to say.

"Ahem." Knowing he needed to say something, Xiao Liang spoke up. "Since everyone has come to the Gambling Stone Field, we should begin the stone gambling. I wonder who will be the biggest winner today."

Then, he whispered to Nalan Jie, "Don’t even think about revenge. Otherwise, our bond as master and disciple is finished."

"I wouldn’t dare, I wouldn’t dare," Nalan Jie repeated hastily upon hearing his teacher’s warning.

Inwardly, however, he was seething with rage toward Wu Tian. Pretend nothing happened? Impossible. He knew he didn’t dare do anything to Wu Tian in front of Xiao Liang, but that didn’t mean he was powerless. He glanced at Wu Tian and gritted his teeth. If I can’t get revenge out in the open, I’ll do it from the shadows. But first, I need to see what this Wu Tian is really capable of. Is this ’expert’ my teacher holds in such high regard the real deal, or just a fraud?

Putting aside the complex emotions over his son’s grave injury, Nalan Jie composed himself and addressed the crowd. "It is getting late. Everyone, please follow me into the stone field. Let’s begin the stone gambling."

"Good."

"We can’t wait any longer."

"That’s right."

Others chimed in, but their enthusiasm was low after the unbelievable events that had just transpired.

"Everyone, please follow me," Nalan Jie said politely. It was to be expected of the Family Head of the Nalan Family, the foremost of the four great families. His son had just been grievously injured, yet his expression was completely unruffled. Such composure was beyond ordinary people. Many of the wealthy men present secretly admitted to themselves that they were no match for Nalan Jie.

Now, the crowd followed Nalan Jie into the stone field. It was surrounded by great glass walls, its layout designed by a master. As soon as they entered, they began to murmur in praise.

"Our Yang City has never had a stone field before. This is the first."

"And I bet it’s the biggest one in Yang City."

"It might even be the only one. The permits required to open a Gambling Stone Field are not something just anyone can get."

"Indeed."

"..."

The crowd was abuzz with discussion.

Meanwhile, Nalan Jie found an elder inside the stone field. The old man was dressed in a robe of ancient style.

"Master Zhen, I have a favor to ask of you," Nalan Jie said.

"Boss, just tell me what you need," the elder replied.

"I need you to enter a stone gambling match with someone and defeat him," Nalan Jie stated.

"Is that all?" Master Zhen asked, surprised.

"No, the opponent has some skill," Nalan Jie said. "But as for how much, I’ll need you to test his depths, Master Zhen."

Master Zhen nodded. To him, this was a trivial matter. In the Gambling Stone Circle, he was ranked ninth. The other eight were all gray-haired elders, and none of them were in Yang City.

Who did this Wu Tian think he was?

When Nalan Jie pointed him out, Master Zhen laughed. He felt that dealing with a junior would be no challenge at all.

What does stone gambling depend on? Vision! And how is vision acquired? Through the sediment of time and experience, of course.

After a moment’s thought, Nalan Jie brought Master Zhen over.

"Teacher, Mr. Wu Tian, allow me to introduce someone," Nalan Jie said, gesturing to the elder. "This is a renowned figure in the Gambling Stone Circle. Known as the Master of Jade, he is respectfully addressed as Master Zhen."

Xiao Liang and Xia Qian both nodded. "Master Zhen, a pleasure."

Master Zhen did not dare be arrogant. "You’re too kind, too kind."

Then, Wu Tian finally spoke. "Little Zhen, is it? Hello there."

I’m in my seventies or eighties, and he’s barely twenty. Yet this young pup has the audacity to call me ’Little Zhen’? The thought soured Master Zhen’s mood. What right does this kid have to address me so casually?

"Teacher, you see? The man has no manners whatsoever, he’s..." Nalan Jie whispered, sidling up to Xiao Liang.

But he was only halfway through his sentence when Xiao Liang cut him off.

"Shut your mouth," he snapped. "He has his own way of doing things. Just because you don’t approve doesn’t make him wrong. No one is qualified to judge another unless the gap between them is as vast as that between God and an ant."

"..." Nalan Jie was momentarily speechless.

What kind of potion did Wu Tian give my teacher? Why else would he be acting like this?

"You two don’t look convinced," Wu Tian remarked.

Even if they tried to hide it, the shifts in Master Zhen’s and Nalan Jie’s expressions couldn’t escape Wu Tian’s Law Eyes. His Law Eyes couldn’t see through objects yet, but discerning the slightest change in a person’s expression was a trivial matter for him.

Before Nalan Jie could say a word, Master Zhen could no longer contain himself. "That’s right! This old man is not convinced!" he declared, his eyes glinting with confidence. "How about we have a little competition? A bet to see who’s better?"

Wu Tian laughed to himself. You’ve served yourself up on a platter for a good old-fashioned face-slapping! I can’t just let you come all this way and go home disappointed, can I? Fine. I’ll indulge you.

"Alright, let’s compete," Wu Tian said.

The onlookers who overheard this thought Wu Tian was getting arrogant. They knew he was a formidable fighter and would certainly win a brawl. But to compete against Master Zhen in stone gambling? That was pure hubris.
