Return of the Immortal Emperor Daddy-Chapter 54: The gap between beasts and humans in -
"Other than being a slightly better driver and a bit better at fighting than the average person, there’s nothing impressive about him," Nangong Yi said.
Nalan Feng nodded but remained doubtful. "Then how did he get in? My father owns this Gambling Stone Field, and tonight’s grand opening was by invitation only for a select group of people. You can’t get in without a certain status."
"He could have sneaked in," Nangong Yi suggested.
"But there are security guards all around," Nalan Feng countered.
"Like I said, he’s a better fighter than most. With his skills, dodging security wouldn’t be difficult," Nangong Yi said, glancing at Nalan Feng. "So? How do you want to handle this?"
"This Gambling Stone Field belongs to my family. If I tell him to get out, he has to get out," Nalan Feng said with a smile. "If I tell him to scram in front of everyone, he’ll be the laughingstock of all of Yang City."
"Yes, yes, yes," a voice from the crowd chimed in.
It was Qin Yujie, and with him were Qin Zhengxin and Ye Lan.
"Given that he seems to have some connection with your family, will it be okay if I embarrass him?" Nalan Feng asked, turning to Qin Zhengxin, Ye Lan, and Qin Yujie.
"I don’t acknowledge any connection between him and the Qin Family," Qin Zhengxin stated.
"Do whatever you want with him," Ye Lan said.
"To me, he’s even less than an outsider," Qin Yujie remarked.
Nalan Feng nodded with a slight smile and walked up to Wu Tian, stopping right in front of him.
"I’ve been asking your colleagues about you recently," Nalan Feng stated arrogantly. "They all said the same thing: aside from driving and wooing women, you’ve got nothing impressive about you."
"Say what you will," Wu Tian responded nonchalantly. Can a person’s worth really be determined by what others say?
Seeing Wu Tian’s indifference, Nalan Feng assumed he was scared. "Are you aware there are reporters in this Gambling Stone Field? The Yang City morning paper, midday paper, evening paper—all of them will report on what happens here tonight. Do you understand?"
"So?" Wu Tian asked, his tone still flat.
"If I tell you to scram from here in front of this crowd, you’ll be in the papers tomorrow, and you’ll become the laughingstock of Yang City." Nalan Feng lowered his voice. "I’ll give you a chance. Stay away from Yuhan from now on, and I’ll let tonight slide. I might even consider you a friend in the future. Otherwise, don’t blame me for what happens next."
After hearing Nalan Feng’s words, a flicker of emotion finally touched Wu Tian’s eyes—it was pity. "There’s something wrong with your head," he said.
"What did you just say?" Nalan Feng’s expression shifted drastically. Unable to maintain his facade any longer, he said coldly, "Are you trying to make an enemy of me?" 𝒻𝑟𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝑛𝘰𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝘤𝘰𝘮
"No. I’m just planning to mess with you. You don’t deserve to be called my ’enemy’," Wu Tian said, his eyes filled with indifference.
What?
Nalan Feng looked as if he had heard the biggest joke in the world.
"I don’t deserve to be your adversary? HAHAHA..." Nalan Feng laughed as if he had just heard the most ridiculous thing imaginable. "Do you have any idea how powerful I am?"
Wu Tian ignored him, but Nalan Feng began boasting anyway, determined to make Wu Tian understand the chasm between them.
"After I finished elementary school, my father told me I didn’t need to study hard. I could get into any prestigious foreign university I wanted, while other people study their hearts out just to stay in a domestic one.
"The stuff I buy for my dog is more expensive than anything you poor people could ever afford to eat. Even on its worst day, my dog eats steak. Can you say the same?
"I only have to be slightly ambiguous with a woman, and she’ll immediately jump into my bed. And those same women I’ve slept with? You people probably still see them as pure, chaste goddesses and chase after them relentlessly."
As Nalan Feng spoke, his face filled with pride. "Now do you understand the gap between us?"
"I understand," Wu Tian said.
Nalan Feng let out a breath, feeling smug. Good, you little brat. As long as you understand.
But then Wu Tian’s tone shifted. "The gap between a beast like you and a human like me is indeed immense."
Many of the young masters and young ladies had been watching the confrontation. When they heard Wu Tian’s words, they were all stunned. It took them a long moment to process what had happened.
"My god, what did he just say?"
"Did he actually call Nalan Feng a beast?"
"Heavens, he’s in deep trouble now."
The surrounding crowd began to point and whisper. The young masters watched with schadenfreude, while the young ladies looked at Wu Tian with pity and sympathy. But since it was Nalan Feng he had offended, none of them dared to speak up.
Lin Tianlong and Nangong Yi were also watching the scene with amused eyes.
"Once Nalan Feng gets ruthless, he’ll gouge out eyes. Perhaps even your big brother there will get dragged into it," Nangong Yi said, his frown turning into a smile.
"That’s fine. It would be for the best if he died." Lin Tianlong shrugged nonchalantly. "My father and his mother were properly married back in the day. Too bad she died giving birth to that thing. That’s how my mother, who was originally her handmaiden, got her chance. Luckily, my father was smitten with my mother, so the family fortune is destined to be mine. Keeping that guy around is just asking for trouble. He’ll suffer, maybe go blind, and then with one little ’accident,’ he’ll just croak. It’s better for him, for me, and for everyone."
Lin Fa stood with cold sweat trickling down his forehead. His face grew paler by the second, and his whole body was trembling.
As a native of Yang City, he knew exactly what kind of demon Nalan Feng was. If Nalan Feng decided to gouge out someone’s eyes, even the victim’s friends and family wouldn’t escape his wrath.
Run? The thought screamed in Lin Fa’s mind. He felt an overwhelming urge to flee. If he ran, maybe Nalan Feng would see him as too worthless to bother with. That way, he could escape this disaster.
But just as he was about to turn, his body froze.
He bit his lip so hard that the sharp pain was followed by the taste of blood. He knew he was a coward. So, he would use this pain to conquer his cowardice.
Wu Tian was the first person who had ever spoken to him so earnestly. Lin Fa knew that if he ran now, he would be no better than scum.
He finally made his decision.
He would stand with Wu Tian.
They would be brothers in adversity.
"That guy’s actually not running?" Lin Tianlong was surprised by Lin Fa’s resolve, but his surprise quickly turned to scorn. He looked at Lin Fa as if he were an idiot. "What a fool. What good will he get from treasuring a friendship with Wu Tian? It’s laughable."
"True. Wu Tian can’t give him wealth, power, or dignity," Nangong Yi added with a laugh. "Your bargain-bin big brother really is an idiot."
However, when Wu Tian noticed Lin Fa’s actions, an inscrutable look flashed through his eyes.
For a coward to be capable of this... So be it. I will make you... the Lord of Yang City.
