Return of the Antagonistic Lady Boss-Chapter 594 - 568: Touching Rescue of a Beauty
This move was great, no doubt about it. 𝒻𝘳𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝘯𝘰𝑣ℯ𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝘮
Qian was indeed very moved.
Even though she was quite unhappy with his foolishness and roundabout actions, he had carried her all this way and made such a heartfelt confession that all her irritation vanished.
But when she saw the thing suddenly appear ahead, the feeling turned into horror.
"There’s a snake!" she whispered into his ear, instinctively covering her mouth to stifle her scream, knowing that shouting would only draw the snake’s attention without helping at all.
Yu Minglang looked in the direction Qian indicated and saw a green snake leisurely slither into the grass at the edge of the slope they were about to climb, leaving half its tail outside.
"Is it venomous?" Qian asked.
"We lucked out," Yu Minglang said casually.
"Oh, it’s not venomous then." Qian breathed a sigh of relief. She recalled reading that not all green snakes are poisonous; a type called the green bamboo snake is completely harmless.
"It is venomous, and highly so. Qian, look how calm it is. Instead of retreating quickly upon encountering humans, it lazily curled into the grass. This state of half awake and half drunk—doesn’t it remind you of yourself?"
Yu Minglang’s tone was extremely calm, as if discussing not a highly venomous snake less than a few meters away but a rare flower.
"!!!" Qian felt her hair standing on end.
"Identifying a venomous snake from a harmless one is quite simple. If it flees quickly like you, it’s not venomous. But if it’s calm and leisurely like this charming little fellow here, it is. It’s a Bamboo Viper, a jackpot!"
It’s one of the country’s top ten venomous snakes, mostly found in the south. Why it appeared in the northern mountains is quite baffling.
Qian really wanted to hit this guy—what time is it, and he still has the heart to explain?
Like all women, she disliked such limp and dark creatures, feeling goosebumps all over at the sight. Yet, somehow, the instinctive fear from deep within her soul faded considerably while lying on his back.
It was like with him around, even if the sky were to fall, she wouldn’t be afraid.
During these few seconds, Qian thought a lot.
"Put me down," she said to Yu Minglang, knowing his skills might allow him to escape safely, but if he carried her, they might both end up in danger here.
"Mei, sorry, but hopefully you won’t stab me in the back later."
"Mei, if there’s a next life, would you be willing to marry me!" he shouted before tossing Qian!
They were standing on a slightly sloped area, and his action made Qian fall backward. However, he tossed her skillfully, and she simply landed on the grass without injury. But when she saw him rushing toward the snake and reaching to grab it, her heart seemed to stop and she blacked out.
She closed her eyes and couldn’t feel her heartbeat; her consciousness and body had separated at that moment.
She couldn’t imagine what she’d do if Yu Minglang were bitten by a snake; all her knowledge and courage had vanished. She even felt that when choosing death in a previous life, she hadn’t been as scared as she was now.
Qian would rather be bitten by the snake herself than open her eyes to check if he was safe.
He had already surpassed her self in her heart at some point, a puzzle that couldn’t be solved—like how one could never know the exact time the first flower blooms.
A cool liquid dripped down her face, and Qian didn’t even know it was her tears. Her mind went blank for those few seconds.
Every reaction came instinctively.
"Hi~ Qian, come take a look~"
Qian opened her eyes to see Yu Minglang standing on the hillside, holding the snake’s head bare-handed, while the snake’s body coiled around his wrist. Qian’s face turned pale with fright.
"Quick, kill it!"
She was really afraid he’d fail to hold it and get bitten. The limp snake appeared very terrifying.
"No, don’t kill it unless absolutely necessary. It’s a life too, Qian, come over here and get the canvas bag from my backpack."
Qian walked over, trying to suppress her fear while feeling her heart racing as the creature was so close.
Yu Minglang showed no fear and even raised the snake to let her take a look.
"Qian, look at the prototype of Xiaoqing from White Snake! Isn’t it cute?"
Not cute at all!
Qian quickly took the bag out, pale-faced, and Yu Minglang asked her to step back, quickly tossing the snake into the bag and sealing it shut.
"Ha ha ha~ Ha ha ha~ West Lake scenery, March~" He even sang a little tune from White Snake!
"Can’t you just kill it instead? It’s too scary!" Qian knew that after the danger passed, her clothes were soaked with cold sweat.
In that brief moment, she had nearly experienced the agony of losing him, truly afraid in her heart.
It wasn’t the fear of death but the fear of losing him.
Yet this fool grabbed the snake with his bare hands, unafraid. Seeing his cheeky demeanor made Qian feel silly for being so scared earlier.
"We’re outsiders intruding on their territory. We can’t deny Xiaoqing the right to self-defense, can we? People fear snakes, but are more people bitten to death by snakes each year or eating snakes? We don’t need to harm it. Let’s find a place to set it free later."
Though Yu Minglang was exceptionally skilled, he never lightly harmed any creature. Even a little snake was a life in his eyes.
Qian didn’t know how to describe Yu Minglang at this moment. He possessed great strength but chose not to use it to bully anything or anyone. Despite being ninety percent silly in front of her, the ten percent of manly demeanor was enough for her to entrust herself fully to him.
No matter how big the problem seemed, it was no problem at all in his hands. With him, Qian didn’t have to worry about anything because wherever Yu Minglang was, no problem was unsolvable.
"Qian, wouldn’t you like to adopt Xiaoqing? Don’t you think it’s cute?"
Yu Minglang lifted the bag, and Qian saw the snake slithering inside, gulping, "Hurry and get rid of it..."
"Alright then, you don’t like it, so I’ll set it free back to the woods for cultivation. Hopefully, it meets Mrs Bai soon~"
"Animals aren’t allowed to become spirits after the establishment of the nation." Qian, somehow surprisingly, said such a nonsensical thing while still in shock, suspecting she was affected by Yu Minglang’s silly traits.
"Qian, don’t you think the appearance of this venomous snake was quite timely? At this moment, didn’t you feel I showed a lot of masculine charm?"
"Indeed, very manly." Thinking of how he safely sent her off and caught the snake bare-handed, Qian’s heart felt warm.
"So, would you be willing to walk through life hand in hand with such a reliable man?" Yu Minglang nervously awaited her answer.
