Remarried Wife: Mr. Ex, We Will Never Reconcile!-Chapter 69: Ian! Vera already knew you were cheating!
Seeing Ian Kane, Vera Sheridan was taken aback.
He must have heard, knowing that she had long believed he was truly cheating.
Vera’s nerves were taut.
Ian Kane removed his Bluetooth earpiece and said into the phone, "That’s all for now."
Then he looked over here, his gaze swept towards Ms. Crowe, "Mom, weren’t you supposed to apologize to Vera? Why were you making things difficult for her just now?"
Hearing this, Vera released her tightly clenched hands.
He had been on the phone and hadn’t heard.
Jean Crowe’s eyes narrowed.
Earlier that morning, she had indeed told Ian Kane that she came to the ward to apologize to Vera.
Just something to say; as an elder, it’s hardly reasonable to apologize to a younger person, especially when she wasn’t wrong!
It was this Vera who knew all along her son was truly cheating but pretended not to, staying silent, never really simple or noble.
Come to think of it, someone of her background marrying into a wealthy family, of course, she had to turn a blind eye, holding onto the status of a rich wife!
Jean Crowe glanced coldly at Vera, then at her infatuated good son!
"Ian Kane, you’re still protecting her!"
"She doesn’t love you at all! Last night, she even hurt herself rather than let you touch her!"
Her voice was sharp and heartless, stabbing into Ian Kane’s heart like a steel needle, as damaging as those childhood words, "Ian Kane, your dad doesn’t love you at all, you have to stand up for yourself and me!"
The man clenched his molars, a thin redness in his deep-set eyes, and retorted in a low voice, "Mom, Vera is just scared!"
Leaning against the hospital bed, Vera flicked her eyelids.
Jean Crowe hesitated, meeting her son’s determined gaze, her heart twisted, and she grew more furious.
"Ian Kane! You’ve gone to great lengths to hide your infidelity from her, yet she already knows! She doesn’t care about you, just your money and status!" She tore at Vera’s facade, trying to wake up her son!
Vera’s nerves tightened again, but she put on a hurt expression, looking at Ian Kane.
He was also looking at her, his eyes filled with suspicion.
"Ian Kane, is what your mom said true?!" Vera asked, her voice trembling.
Ian Kane snapped back, "It’s not true!"
Jean Crowe, however, stepped forward in anger, "Vera! You’re still pretending! You knew Ian Kane had more than one woman!"
Vera’s face turned pale, her eyes fixed on Ian Kane, looking hurt, "Is it true?"
Ian Kane clenched his fists, giving her a reassuring look, then glared at Jean Crowe, angry, "Mom, can you stop provoking Vera?!"
He simply thought that Jean Crowe, unable to consummate their marriage even with medication, was desperate and didn’t want Vera as a daughter-in-law, so she bluntly told her he was unfaithful.
But as Vera listened to Ian Kane’s words, she secretly laughed inside.
Jean Crowe’s face turned livid with anger, she said viciously, "Ian Kane! I’m not provoking her, she really knows all about it!"
Her tone was sharp, forceful, not sounding like a lie.
Ian Kane was shaken.
However, if Vera truly knew, with her personality, she would have already started divorce proceedings!
She couldn’t possibly know.
No evidence!
Ian Kane rubbed his forehead, massaging his temples wearily, "Mom, it’s getting late, please go home and rest early, Vera and I can’t be separated by you."
With that said, he turned his back and walked towards Vera.
Vera looked at him, tears streaming down her face, "Ian Kane, who should I trust?"
Jean Crowe clutched her chest in anger, "Ian Kane! Is there no place for me in your eyes? You don’t listen to anything I say!"
Ian Kane closed his eyes briefly, not turning back, picked up his phone and instructed the bodyguards outside, "Send the old lady back to the old mansion."
Soon, Jean Crowe was escorted out, leaving behind her gritted complaints.
The hospital room finally quieted down.
Facing Vera’s tear-streaked, pale face, Ian Kane sat down on the edge of the bed, his voice warm, "You know about Ms. Crowe’s controlling nature. She staged this act just to break us apart."
"Don’t believe her words, after all that we’ve been through, don’t you trust me?"
Vera’s eyes were still filled with tears as she stared blankly at him, saying nothing.
Inside, though, she was full of scornful laughter.
Seeing her silence, Ian Kane’s expression turned cold, "You really don’t believe me? Have you forgotten about that incident where you slapped me twice in public so quickly?"
He was trying to "tame" her again!
Vera feigned submission, clutching his arm and shaking her head, her face full of pleasing, "I didn’t, don’t be angry, it’s just that my mother-in-law’s behavior doesn’t seem staged."
Ian Kane’s expression softened a bit, and he ruffled the back of her head, "She’s just like that, with a performative personality."
Inwardly, Vera snorted coldly but outwardly nodded.
The mother and son were equally hypocritical.
At this moment, she suddenly felt a weight on her legs.
Looking down, she saw Ian Kane lying on her.
Vera froze.
The man lay face down on the blanket covering her, his whole weight pressing on her, giving off a sense of solitude.
"Honey, do you... love me?"
Vera clearly heard his soft murmur, her heart twitched, but she pretended not to hear, looking away.
He was acting again, playing the victim to provoke her desire to save him!
He dared to say the word "love"?
Yesterday afternoon, after she provoked him slightly, he immediately went to find that Serena Everett...
She still remembered the red marks on his neck last night.
It’s easy to imagine them entangled all afternoon.
The pain from nails digging into her palm, Vera’s eyes turned red.
She couldn’t tell whether it was the wound or her heart that hurt.
But she knew clearly, the pain was for her love, for that once wholehearted pursuit.
It had nothing to do with this liar.
After an unknown amount of time, Ian Kane raised his head, his handsome face breaking into a smile, "Hungry? Let’s eat."
He seemed unaffected.
Vera threw off the blanket and got out of bed to wash up. Ian Kane quickly followed, squeezing out toothpaste for her.
"The ski suits we ordered have arrived and will be delivered to our home today. Try them on later." Ian Kane looked at her in the mirror, seemingly in good spirits.
Vera brushed her teeth, nodding perfunctorily, a smile in her eyes.
He was busy taking her skiing in Valdania, while she was secretly planning to leave him...
Her jewelry, once appraised by a jewelry company, would be sold, and the proceeds would be donated to charity, supporting impoverished areas.
Before marrying, Vera had been a ballet star, endorsing many brands and achieving financial independence. She didn’t need the money.
...
When Ian Kane returned to the old mansion, as he entered, Jean Crowe threw a teacup at him, which he didn’t dodge. A cup of hot tea splashed onto his chest, quickly soaking his white shirt, with steam faintly rising.
Without needing Jean Crowe’s command, he walked directly to the meditation cushion, kneeling straight to apologize.
Jean Crowe came to his side, leaned over, and hissed in his ear, "Ian Kane! Vera knows, she’s pretending not to! Do I have to dig out my heart for you to believe your mom?"
Ian Kane was expressionless, "Mom, if she’s pretending not to know, it means she doesn’t want to leave me."
Jean Crowe choked, then immediately was frustrated but helpless, "Ian Kane, what are you hoping for!? You’ve obeyed and followed me in everything since you were young, except for marrying this Vera—you insist on going against me!"
Ian Kane showed no response to anything she said, neither yielding nor caring.
"She’s only after your money and the status of being Mrs. Kane! She doesn’t love you!" Jean Crowe couldn’t get through to him, gritting her teeth at his back before leaving.
The implication being he wasn’t worthy of love.
Ian Kane’s lips curled into a mocking smile.
He didn’t need it anyway.
...
After the divorce, Vera planned to move to Veridia, and Maeve Holloway prepared to relocate her studio there too.
Her studio was in the Kane Group’s office building, so it wasn’t convenient to continue renting there.
While packing with her, Vera received a call from Ian Kane.
"Honey, I suddenly realized that during our divorce cooling-off period, the civil affairs bureau hadn’t been notified to cancel it. Where are you now? I’ll pick you up, and we’ll go sort it out this afternoon."
Upon hearing this, Vera’s scalp tingled.
How did he suddenly remember this?
There were only seven days left until the end of the cooling-off period...
