Remarriage Failed Again Today-Chapter 140: She Didn’t Even Notice Him
Annabelle Linton immediately stopped in her tracks, a flicker of anxiety in her eyes. "What’s wrong?"
"Just get to the hospital." With that, Leona Grant hung up.
Annabelle Linton’s crimson lips pressed into a thin line. After a moment’s hesitation, she left the conference room.
「Twenty minutes later, she arrived at the hospital.」
The moment she entered the hospital, Butler Zane hurried over, his face wrought with panic. "Young Madam, you’re finally here! The old master has been feeling unwell all day. We brought him to the hospital, and the doctors say it’s gallstones. He needs surgery immediately."
"But the old master is refusing. He insists on seeing you before he’ll agree to the surgery. Young Madam, I’m afraid he’s pushed himself too far by waiting this long. Whatever he says, please just go along with it for now. Don’t upset him, all right?"
Annabelle Linton frowned deeply.
’Why does Grandpa have to be so stubborn?’
’Gallstones at his age are no joke!’
Clearly, Annabelle was too worried about her grandfather’s health to fully process what Butler Zane had said.
"Alright. Please take me to him, Butler Zane. I’ll get Grandpa to agree to the surgery."
"Yes, thank you! Thank you, Young Madam!" Butler Zane said gratefully, quickly leading Annabelle Linton to Patrick Grant’s VIP room.
When Annabelle arrived at the room, the entire Grant family was there.
They were all pacing anxiously, completely helpless.
When they saw Annabelle Linton, they looked at her as if she were their savior.
"Annabelle, you have to see Grandpa," Ashley Grant said, her eyes red. "It’s gallstones. The doctor said it could be life-threatening if he doesn’t have the surgery soon, but he insists on seeing you first. Please, go convince him!"
"Alright!"
Annabelle Linton glanced at Mr. and Mrs. Grant, giving them a slight nod in greeting.
As she turned, her eyes immediately fell upon her grandfather, lying in the hospital bed with a thin oxygen tube in his nose.
Her grandfather lay on the bed, one hand resting limply at his side while the other clutched his stomach. His eyes were half-lidded, his eyelids looking too heavy to lift.
Though it had only been a few days since she’d last seen him, Annabelle could clearly see that her grandfather had lost weight. His face was pale, and he obviously hadn’t been doing well.
’This is what happens when people get older. Even a simple cold can be fatal.’
Annabelle looked at her grandfather.
His insistence on holding out to see her before the surgery gave her the strange, dreadful feeling that this might be the last time she would see him alive.
Annabelle’s eyes instantly reddened, but she forced a calm smile. "Grandpa, I’m here."
Hearing Annabelle’s voice, Patrick Grant finally opened his eyes and smiled weakly. "Annabelle, you’re here..."
Seeing her grandfather in this state, Annabelle couldn’t stop the tears from falling.
The sight of her grandfather reminded her of her past life. Vivian Yates had told her that after Leona Grant locked her away, her grandfather had searched for her every day, so relentlessly that he ended up hospitalized himself.
Back then, no one else had cared about her. Only her grandfather had always doted on her and looked out for her.
Her heart ached. "Grandpa, we can’t afford to delay with gallstones. You’ve seen me now, so please, go have the surgery. We can talk about whatever you want afterward, okay?"
Leona Grant watched Annabelle, a flicker of sadness passing through her deep eyes.
Annabelle hadn’t even noticed her.
This oversight wasn’t intentional; it had simply become a habit.
Patrick Grant shook his head, gasping for breath. "No... there are some things I have to say right now. Otherwise, I’m afraid... I’m afraid I’ll never get another chance..."
"Grandpa!" Leona Grant frowned, her expression turning serious.
"Grandpa, no, don’t say that. You’re going to live a long and healthy life," Annabelle chimed in, wiping away her tears. "The doctors are ready, they’re just waiting for you. The surgery will go smoothly, I’m sure of it. Please don’t say such things."
The old man just shook his head wearily and said in a weak voice, "Leona, Annabelle, you two come here. The rest of you, leave us..."
