Relentless Pursuit After Divorce-Chapter 2067: Summer Hall Extra (269)
Carter Quincy continued:
"Once I successfully swapped the children, I had nothing to worry about. I couldn’t even afford to raise the child, and it wasn’t mine anyway, so why should I care? After you left San Francisco, I just dumped the swapped child at the orphanage."
Saying this, she looked at Helen Melendy with not a trace of guilt, even appearing somewhat proud, and said:
"Miss Smith, you shouldn’t hate me. On the contrary, you should thank me. If I hadn’t thrown you in the orphanage and the director hadn’t picked you up, you wouldn’t have had the chance to get into Harvard University and become a big lawyer. You wouldn’t even have met your current husband. I am your great benefactor."
Carter Quincy’s words were not meant to provoke Helen Melendy; she genuinely believed she had played a significant role in Helen’s life.
Evelyn Taylor laughed in anger. Despite her attempts to suppress her fury, she couldn’t help wanting to rush forward and tear this malicious woman, Carter Quincy, to pieces.
She swapped her daughter, allowing her own daughter to live the life of a wealthy heiress, and still had the audacity to claim she was a benefactor.
Helen Melendy reached out to hold Evelyn Taylor back, gently patting her on the back, then smiled at Carter Quincy and said:
"You’re right. It’s fortunate you threw me away; I really should thank you."
If she hadn’t been abandoned, growing up in such a male-preferential, vampire-like family, life would have been truly hard.
Forget about going to Harvard; even having the chance to attend high school would have been a blessing.
Carter Quincy chuckled smugly and then turned her gaze to Olivia, her eyes once again revealing a ferocious look.
"But this ungrateful wretch, I let her live the life of a wealthy heiress, and not only does she not feel grateful, she just watched as her brother and father went to jail. Isn’t a wretch like that deserving of death?"
Evelyn Taylor, holding back her impulse, coldly replied:
"What’s your family got to do with us? The child in her womb is the Smith Family’s first grandchild; that’s what matters."
She squinted her eyes at Carter Quincy’s twisted face, saying:
"Your son is a rapist, you know what people in prison hate the most? Rapists. We, the Smith Family, are decent people; how can we allow Olivia to be associated with a rapist? You’d better leave; Olivia doesn’t know you."
At this moment, Olivia wasn’t foolish enough to think Evelyn Taylor was speaking on her behalf. She was clearly provoking Carter Quincy, trying to drag Olivia down with her.
She was anxious and angry, originally hoping Thomas Smith would stand by her side so she could take a moment and think of a way. But now, even Thomas was silent, so who could she turn to?
As expected, upon hearing Evelyn Taylor’s words, Carter Quincy’s fury was entirely redirected toward Olivia.
"Madam Smith, you think Olivia is innocent? She might be innocent of the child-swapping, but I’ll tell you, the mastermind behind Miss Smith not being able to walk is not me. It’s her."
Carter Quincy pointed her sharp finger at the pale-faced Olivia and laughed triumphantly.
"This little bitch got hold of some drugs from somewhere, and had me find someone to seize the opportunity to dose Miss Smith, causing her disability. Although by then, Miss Smith was already in a vegetative state, this vicious little bitch never intended to let her go."
As Carter Quincy scolded Olivia for being malicious, she completely forgot she was just as malicious herself. It’s true the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree; this mother-daughter pair is a perfect example.
