Chapter 1921: Chapter 1921: Summer Hall Side Story (123)

Helen Melendy couldn’t stand her overly flattering manner, which was downright creepy. She nodded at her with indifference and then looked at Adrian Richards and his wife.

Still, she politely greeted them, "Uncle, Aunt."

Adrian Richards and his wife were shocked and quickly nodded back.

Helen Melendy hadn’t formally interacted with them before, but given they’d raised such a harsh daughter like Shannon Richards, they probably weren’t good people.

However, the guests had come, and she had to maintain surface-level politeness.

As long as they weren’t creating trouble, she’d offer them a good face.

Let’s just consider it for her husband’s sake.

Adrian Richards couldn’t be too enthusiastic towards Helen Melendy; such social pleasantries naturally fell to Lady Richards.

After saying hello, Lady Richards warmly approached, taking Helen Melendy’s hands and sizing her up, softly saying:

"Helen is getting prettier every time I see her; she seems even prettier than the last time."

It’s just rainbow praise; it doesn’t cost anything to give.

As for Helen Melendy, she was left awkward by the compliments, managing only a weak smile as she welcomed them into the house.

"Uncle, Aunt, please have a seat."

Harry Hall went over to make a few cups of coffee to serve them.

Though aware they would never go to the temple for nothing, they didn’t overlook basic hospitality.

To get close to Helen Melendy, Shannon Richards eagerly sat beside her after her parents took their seats.

Feeling her intentionally drawing near, Helen Melendy felt uncomfortable and subtly shifted a bit away, giving her a slight glance.

Shannon Richards didn’t notice her reluctance and continued enthusiastically, saying:

"Cousin-in-law, what’s that perfume you’re wearing? It smells so good; I want to buy it too."

Helen Melendy heard her obvious flattery, smiled, raised her arm to sniff it, and replied:

"I’m not wearing perfume; it’s probably the scent of the laundry detergent."

Shannon Richards’ ingratiating smile suddenly stiffened, and clear embarrassment appeared on her face.

But quickly, she adjusted her expression and awkwardly smiled, saying:

"So that’s the smell of detergent, it’s surprisingly pleasant; I’ll have my maid switch to that brand at home too."

Helen Melendy responded with a polite smile but didn’t pursue her comment.

Shannon Richards felt a bit embarrassed inside, giving Helen Melendy a dirty look in her mind, but kept her smile plastered on her face.

Harry Hall didn’t have the patience for their Tai Chi and straightforwardly asked:

"Uncle, is there something you need from me today?"

Adrian Richards’ smile faded slightly upon hearing this, knowing Harry Hall didn’t have time to waste. So he didn’t beat around the bush.

He sighed and said, "Uncle heard that the company in New Horse closed down, and it was all because of you."

He looked at Harry Hall, showing no blame on his face toward him; instead, he seemed somewhat resigned and weary.

Harry Hall raised an eyebrow casually without denying it, showing he didn’t care even if Adrian Richards knew.

Adrian Richards continued:

"Harry, Uncle just found out your mother is so muddle-headed, unable to live a good life without creating conflict. But, Harry, one must be reasonable; your mother is an adult. Uncle can’t control her actions, but you can’t let what she does affect Uncle; that wouldn’t be fair to Uncle, would it?"
