Chapter 95: Chapter 95: Wanting to Be Closer to Him, Even Closer

When Auntie Shen came out, she saw Lin Xi curled up like a cat, fast asleep in Xue Yang’s embrace.

Although the sofa was tiny, barely big enough for Xue Yang alone, the two of them sleeping there didn’t seem cramped at all. Instead, they radiated a peculiar warmth. It was as if they were a pair of twins, peacefully drawing nourishment from each other in their mother’s womb.

At that moment, she finally understood the young lady’s persistence. What girls wanted was often very simple. As long as two people were truly in love, not even a mountain of daggers or a sea of fire would feel difficult. Love was a magical force, capable of unlocking the infinite potential within a person. How could she bear to wake Lin Xi and tell her to sleep in the bedroom when the scene before her was so heartwarming?

She remembered cleaning the master bathroom that morning and seeing a blood-stained tissue.

She stood at the doorway for a moment before returning to her room. Seconds later, she emerged with a thick blanket and carefully draped it over them. After adjusting the living room heater to a comfortable temperature, she tiptoed back to her room, gently closed the door, and went to bed. This time, she did not come out to disturb them again.

Although he was sleeping on the sofa, Xue Yang slept very comfortably that night. He awoke the next morning feeling refreshed and full of energy, completely rejuvenated. Lin Xi was nestled in his arms like a little kitten, so still that he didn’t even notice her until she moved.

He remembered sleeping on the sofa once in their old little house—an unforgettable experience. Lin Xi had slept on it too, and for several days at that. Fortunately, he’d paid special attention to the sofa’s quality when they chose the apartment. Otherwise, a night like this would have been miserable.

He couldn’t even remember when he’d fallen asleep. All he knew was that one moment he was talking to Lin Xi, and the next, he was out.

Auntie Shen was in the kitchen preparing breakfast. Worried about waking them, she kept it simple, but it was still packed with nutrients. In the past, she only had to consider the young lady’s nutritional needs when cooking, but things were different now. She had to consider Xue Yang’s as well. A young man of eighteen or nineteen was still growing. Although he was young, he couldn’t just run on fumes; he needed proper nourishment to have the energy to strive out in the world.

Even if those two couldn’t be together in the end, she would always think of Xue Yang as a very good boy.

He glanced at the time. It was still early.

Just five more minutes, he thought, closing his eyes. Five minutes was the absolute maximum he could afford to laze around in bed. Any later, and he’d miss the bus and be late for class.

Xue Yang disliked being tardy. With anything he did, he either gave it his all or didn’t do it at all.

Five minutes later, Xue Yang opened his eyes on the dot. The Xiao Naimao in his arms was still sound asleep, occasionally nuzzling against his chest. Her shirt had come open, revealing a patch of pristine white skin...

So stimulating, first thing in the morning...

Xue Yang’s breath hitched. He closed his eyes and reached over to fix her shirt, but since he was doing it blind, he accidentally pulled the fabric over her face. When the Xiao Naimao swiped at it with her paw, Xue Yang nearly lost his balance and fell off the sofa.

The commotion woke Lin Xi completely. She propped herself up on his chest and blinked dazedly, her eyes asking what he had just done.

"Your shirt came open," he mumbled. "I was just pulling it up for you." As he spoke, his hands were already moving to fix it again.

Lin Xi glanced down. The moment Xue Yang’s hand moved away, her shirt popped open again. This time, she saw the beautiful curve for herself...

Quickly, Xue Yang pulled it closed again, but as soon as he let go, it popped right back open.

"Button up your shirt!" Xue Yang demanded.

"You do it for me."

"..."

He lifted his head slightly, glancing toward the kitchen. Auntie Shen was still busy preparing breakfast, seemingly unaware that they were awake.

With trembling hands, Xue Yang tried to button her shirt. He was fumbling with a single button for what felt like an eternity, terrified that Auntie Shen would walk in at any moment and create an awkward scene.

He finally managed to fasten one, only to hear Lin Xi giggle. "You buttoned it crooked."

Xue Yang opened his eyes. Sure enough, the buttons on her chest were all misaligned, leaving tantalizing gaps. The way it both concealed and revealed gave her a fragile, helpless allure, as if she were at his mercy.

COUGH, COUGH...

Xue Yang coughed sharply. The familiar, metallic taste of blood filled his mouth, and he knew he was having another nosebleed.

How embarrassing, especially with an elder in the house.

"You do it yourself," he managed, scrambling up and clutching his nose as he bolted for the bathroom.

Auntie Shen came out of the kitchen. "Xiao Xi, Xue Yang, you’re awake. Breakfast is almost ready... What’s wrong with Xue Yang?" She thought she saw blood on his hands.

"He has a nosebleed," Lin Xi stated plainly.

Auntie Shen was stunned for a second. But when her gaze fell on Lin Xi’s comically misbuttoned shirt, she understood. Without another word, she turned and went back to the kitchen to bring out their breakfast.

She was already thinking about what groceries to buy for the day.

As Xue Yang had to catch the bus, he left immediately after eating breakfast and changing his clothes, leaving Lin Xi and Auntie Shen at home.

"Auntie Shen," Lin Xi said after they ate, "let’s go look for a suitable hotel near Xue Yang’s school."

Auntie Shen guessed Lin Xi’s intentions almost instantly.

The young lady felt sorry for Xue Yang’s commute back and forth at night. She wanted to move closer to the school so he could sleep for an extra hour or so.

"Miss, staying in a hotel isn’t very convenient," Auntie Shen suggested. "Why don’t I buy a villa nearby? That would be much better." This apartment was so small; she felt she couldn’t really spread her wings.

"There’s no need for that..." Lin Xi said, feeling a little guilty. "I’m not ready to tell him about... this yet." She lowered her head and took a sip of her porridge, her thoughts drifting.

"I understand."

Sometimes, the trouble with being too wealthy isn’t about what you can’t get, but the fear of what you might lose. The gap between the young lady’s family background and Xue Yang’s was simply too vast. It was as if one was a star in the heavens and the other was a speck of dust in the boundless cosmos. If she hadn’t run away from home this time, their paths might never have crossed.

After breakfast, Lin Xi stayed home to study while Auntie Shen went to University Town. She checked into a room at the five-star hotel closest to Yanbei University, then bought groceries and returned.

"Miss, we’ll go over after dinner and bring some for Xue Yang. Oh, and remember to message him the hotel address."

"Auntie Shen, I can just go by myself tonight."
