Chapter 68: Chapter 68: Unfriending Each Other

Chen Ying had been trying to meet with Xue Yang but hadn’t gotten the chance. By Saturday, she finally found an opportunity to invite him to discuss joining the student council. They sat in a coffee shop on campus, where Xue Yang had ordered two coffees and some pastries.

Chen Ying absently stirred the coffee in her cup. How long has it been since we’ve sat down like this, face to face and so close?

In the past, she had never really noticed, but now she suddenly realized that Xue Yang was truly handsome. He was sitting by the window, and the sunlight streaming through the glass shone on his profile, as if coating it in a golden light that sharpened his features.

The ancients said, "In this world, some are as precious as jade, a young lord without parallel." That must describe someone like Xue Yang.

Chen Ying seemed to have dressed up specially for the occasion. She wore a long white down jacket with a white fur collar, fleece-lined tights, and a pair of white snow boots that reached her knees. The outfit made her look mature and fashionable. Most importantly, she was genuinely beautiful. Every guy who had walked past since she sat down had subconsciously turned back for a second look.

"Xue Yang, don’t get the wrong idea. I’m just here on behalf of the student council to extend an invitation, hoping you’ll join."

"Senior, I’m really too busy. Right now, I just want to focus on the Lin Corporation project so I can secure an internship."

After all, isn’t the whole point of working so hard to get into university to change your life and contribute to the country?

"I can manage both the student council and the project. I believe you can too. I sincerely hope you can join our student council."

"Senior, I really don’t have that much time. I’m sorry."

Xue Yang just wanted to finish his coffee quickly and head back to the project room to work so he could get home early to keep Lin Xi company.

Today’s Saturday, so that girl Lin Xi must be bored at home. If I get back late, she’ll probably start crying.

He couldn’t help but smile, thinking about how Lin Xi had clung to him that morning, so reluctant to let him go.

That girl is so much fun.

As Xue Yang smiled, the golden sunlight draped over him made him seem to glow with warmth. His immaculate profile, faint smile, and slightly curved eyes made Chen Ying forget to breathe. She subconsciously asked, "Xue Yang, are you still mad at me?"

Xue Yang looked up at her, puzzled by the sudden question.

"Senior, if you really think that, then perhaps we shouldn’t contact each other anymore. We should just delete each other as contacts. It would be better for both of us."

"Fine, delete me then! Xue Yang, don’t you regret this," Chen Ying retorted, pulling out her phone and deleting his QQ and phone number right in front of him.

After Chen Ying left, Xue Yang finished his coffee and was about to leave when Cui Hao burst in.

He grabbed a pastry from the table in front of Xue Yang and stuffed it into his mouth. "What did the campus belle want with you?"

"She invited me to join the student council."

"Not bad! They say it’s hard for exes to stay friends, but the campus belle actually took the initiative to invite you. It looks like she played the field for a bit, only to realize you were the best one after all. So? Did you say yes?"

"No. I told her I don’t have time."

"Alright, alright. You have a girlfriend, so you’re the big shot now. Aren’t you afraid that one day the campus belle will find out and blast you all over the internet?"

Xue Yang furrowed his brow slightly. "Why is it that nobody said a thing when I pursued her for six years and got rejected for six years, but now that I have a girlfriend, people can’t accept it?"

"Sometimes, the minds of a Little Fairy are not for us mere mortals to comprehend. I think you should be careful."

Xue Yang held up his phone. "Yeah, that’s why we just deleted each other as contacts."

"DAMN!" Cui Hao almost spat out the pastry he had just bitten into.

After recovering, he gave Xue Yang a thumbs-up. "You’re the man!"

Cui Hao quickly wolfed down the rest of Xue Yang’s pastries, not touching the ones that had been for Chen Ying.

"One more question, when are you going to introduce me to my daughter-in-law?"

Not having met Xue Yang’s girlfriend was unsettling Cui Hao, leaving him as restless and on edge as if his heart were crawling with ants. He had no idea where Xue Yang had moved to; otherwise, he absolutely would have dropped by to catch them by surprise.

Xue Yang’s gaze drifted out the window. "Next September, I guess."

"DAMN!" The last bite of pastry got stuck in Cui Hao’s throat. He looked around for something to drink, but Xue Yang’s cup was empty. He glanced at where Chen Ying had been sitting; her coffee was almost untouched. In the end, he forced himself to swallow the dry pastry.

"She’s quite shy. Don’t scare her."

"You, my man, are something else. That’s it, I absolutely have to find a girlfriend in Yanbei before my daughter-in-law gets here."

Xue Yang had guessed right. With him out for the weekend, Lin Xi couldn’t quiet her mind enough to study. Twenty minutes had passed, and she’d barely gotten halfway through a single test paper. Normally, she would’ve finished one in that amount of time.

She turned on her computer, thinking she might write her novel, but she had no motivation at all.

"Ugh, I’m so bored."

"Xue Yang, when are you coming back?"

Lin Xi checked the time on her phone. It was only 8:30 AM.

Xue Yang had left at 8:00. That meant only half an hour had passed, and she was already missing him.

A certain little Xiao Naimao flopped onto the table with a resigned MRROW~.

I have to make money.

She opened the author dashboard to check her daily report.

Ever since that one day when she had suddenly gained a dozen new bookmarks and comments, things had gone back to the previous quiet period, as if she were writing in a void. The only slight improvement was that a few of those new readers would occasionally comment on the latest Chapter, begging for an update.

To her surprise, there were several new comments today.

"These latest Chapters are really good! The female lead is portrayed with such detail; the character just comes to life. May I ask if the author is a mister or a miss?"

"So sweet, so sweet! It would be even better if you could post more Chapters every day."

"The male lead is gentle, the female lead is adorable. Isn’t this the kind of love I’ve always dreamed of? Dear author, you have to let them end up together."

There were several more comments just like these. When Lin Xi opened her daily report, she saw that her bookmarks had skyrocketed from 20 to 102.

"So many!" Lin Xi exclaimed, quickly messaging her editor.

Qing Yan: "Editor, it looks like my bookmarks have increased a lot recently. Was my book featured somewhere?"

Editor: "Honey, your word count and number of active readers haven’t met the criteria for a recommendation yet. But don’t be discouraged! For your current word count, these numbers are quite good. Keep it up. As soon as you meet the standards, we’ll get you a feature."
