Chapter 63: Chapter 63: Their Little Day Together

Xue Yang would sometimes look up and meet Lin Xi’s gaze, and they would exchange a smile before continuing with their individual tasks. Being with someone you like is never awkward, even without talking. One of the happiest things in the world is simply being able to see the one you love whenever you look up. 𝚏𝕣𝐞𝗲𝐰𝕖𝐛𝐧𝕠𝕧𝚎𝚕.𝐜𝚘𝗺

An hour later, an enticing aroma wafted from the pot, tantalizing Lin Xi’s taste buds as the spicy mantis shrimp was ready to be served.

"Is this the spicy mantis shrimp? This looks delicious!" Lin Xi had never eaten shrimp prepared this way before, but it looked incredibly appetizing.

"Come and try it." Seeing her reaction, Xue Yang picked up a mantis shrimp, peeled off the shell, and fed it to Lin Xi.

At first, Lin Xi was a bit uncomfortable. Since she was young, meals had always been prepared by a private chef, and she would only begin to eat after the food was served at the dining table. Because of her family background, the expectations for her table manners had always been very high. Elders had to be seated first, and no one could start until everyone was at the table. Chewing loudly was forbidden; she was expected to eat slowly and quietly, making no sounds and certainly not speaking during the meal.

These dining etiquettes were ingrained in her DNA. To Xue Yang, watching her eat was like appreciating a work of art; in his eyes, even the most ordinary ingredients seemed to become something special.

Xue Yang seemed to have noticed her hesitation. Every person and every family has their own dining etiquette, and Xue Yang’s was no exception. However, his family was relatively relaxed when eating at home. His mother would often feed him a tasty morsel she’d cooked, just like this, so he had grown accustomed to it and unconsciously picked up the habit. Since Lin Xi couldn’t seem to accept it, he wasn’t going to force her.

Just as he was about to withdraw his hand, Lin Xi suddenly grabbed it and ate the mantis shrimp he was holding. After a few chews, her eyes lit up. She gave Xue Yang a thumbs-up. "This is really tasty!"

"Of course! Look who cooked it."

"Excuse me, Chef Xue, when can we eat? Someone’s tummy is hungry."

"Just wait a little longer. We’ll be eating soon."

Lin Xi nodded obediently. "Alright."

Xue Yang then quickly cooked a vegetable dish and a tomato and egg drop soup, and they officially started their meal.

After sitting down, Lin Xi began to peel the mantis shrimp just as Xue Yang had done earlier. She placed the peeled shrimp into an empty bowl, and soon there was a pile of shells in front of her, making her resemble a little hamster even more. Seeing how much she was enjoying them, Xue Yang didn’t fight her for the shrimp. After eating a few himself, he switched to the vegetables.

After peeling a small bowl’s worth, Lin Xi stopped. She then placed all the peeled mantis shrimp in front of Xue Yang.

Xue Yang was slightly taken aback. He had originally thought she was peeling them for herself to eat slowly, but it turned out she had peeled them all for him. How could he not be moved?

"Try some shrimp, peeled for you by your beautiful, cute, and sensible girlfriend. See if they taste even better."

With a smile, Xue Yang picked up a piece and put it in his mouth. He chewed a couple of times and swallowed, then gave her a thumbs-up. "Hmm, my cooking really is good. But after passing through the hands of my beautiful, cute, and sensible girlfriend, it tastes even better."

This guy. He has to praise himself before complimenting me.

Xue Yang picked up a peeled mantis shrimp. "Try the shrimp fed to you by your handsome, dashing, and incredibly talented boyfriend. Doesn’t it taste even better?"

Lin Xi burst out laughing at Xue Yang’s self-praise. She opened her mouth slightly to eat the shrimp he offered. "Mmm, it’s really good."

They took turns feeding each other, the meal lasting for almost an hour. Lin Xi relished this private time, enjoying it immensely. She didn’t have to deliberately maintain her image; she could just act however she felt most comfortable. Two people in love should be open and honest with each other, shouldn’t they?

"We’re out of daily necessities and cooking essentials. Let’s go to the supermarket later to walk off the meal."

"Yay!"

Compared to their new home, the place Xue Yang had rented back in University Town was downright spartan. Even after he had added some kitchenware, it still felt like they were just playing house. Now things were different. They had an apartment with two bedrooms and a living room; this was their home. When they first moved in, the place was empty, but after living here for a while, Lin Xi had decorated it into an incredibly cozy space.

As usual, Lin Xi got ready in full gear. Fortunately, the weather was cold enough that no one would find it strange for her to be bundled up like a penguin.

The supermarket was a bit farther than the wet market, about two kilometers away. Instead of taking a car, they chose to walk hand in hand, treating it as a post-meal stroll.

On Sundays, the supermarket was filled with all kinds of sales. It was bustling with people, and a joyful atmosphere hung in the air. An announcement played over the loudspeaker: "There are seven days in a week, but weekends are the best! Sleep in late, stay up all night! The supermarket’s got huge sales, so pick whatever you like! Get together with friends and family for some wonderful fun! On your rare day off, make sure to visit Yonghui! We wish you a happy weekend of shopping!"

Xue Yang went to get a shopping cart. "Come on, get in."

Lin Xi didn’t understand what he meant at first, until she saw a nearby father pushing a shopping cart with a small child sitting inside, clapping their hands joyfully. Then it dawned on her.

"This... I don’t think this is a good idea. Look how little those kids are, and look at me!" Although Lin Xi was refusing out loud, deep down, she was itching to try.

"Who says only kids can ride in these? If other kids can do it, so can you. Get in."

"No, people will laugh at me."

Three minutes later, inside Yonghui Supermarket, one person was pushing a cart while another was sitting cross-legged inside, issuing commands. "I want to buy chips."

"And popcorn, for when we watch movies."

"Sunflower seeds."

"Chocolate."

The certain someone who had just insisted she wouldn’t ride in the cart was now gleefully directing Xue Yang through the supermarket aisles, bewildering the little kids in other carts.

"Attention, beautiful, adorable, and sensible girlfriend! Your exclusive cart is ready for departure. Please sit tight and hold on. Let’s go!"

Following Lin Xi’s directions, Xue Yang pushed her through every aisle of the supermarket. Amid the clamor of the busy store, Lin Xi’s cheerful laughter could be heard clearly.

As they passed another couple, the woman slapped her boyfriend’s back. "Look at her boyfriend, then look at you. It’s true what they say, all the good men belong to someone else."

"Baby, if you want to ride, you can get in too."

The woman looked at herself, then at Lin Xi in the cart. When Lin Xi sat in it, she looked petite and cute. If she herself were to sit in it, the cart would definitely be overloaded. Her face darkened, and she said no more.

The boyfriend sneaked a glance at the tiny Lin Xi, who was sitting in the shopping cart like a happy little elf. It’s the comparison that hurts.
