Rejected by the Campus Belle, I Find My True Love-Chapter 58: Skiing Scare, Let’s Be Together
The brief interlude passed quickly.
Hand in hand, Xue Yang and Lin Xi stood at the top of the snow-capped mountain. The sunlight reflected off the snow, emitting a dazzling glow. Dressed in ski gear, holding their poles and with their feet strapped into skis, they were ready to push off.
Standing next to them was another pair, a man and a woman who were an actual couple.
The girl said affectionately to the boy, "Dear, did you know? They say that couples who ski down from Xiangshan Snow Mountain hand in hand will never be separated for the rest of their lives."
Hearing this, the boy gripped the girl’s hand tightly and said with determination, "Baby, don’t worry. I will never let go of your hand in this lifetime."
Afterward, the two of them skied down the mountain together.
Xue Yang and Lin Xi’s hands tightened unconsciously. They exchanged a look, and although they said nothing, it said more than a thousand words.
Once ready, they followed suit, entering the ski run and heading down the mountain.
The wind whistled past their ears, and it felt as if they had merged with the white world around them. As their speed increased, their hearts began to race. When they turned, their bodies leaned slightly, their skis carving beautiful arcs in the snow.
Suddenly, the vibrations from too many skiers caused a small, snow-covered hill ahead to collapse. 𝒻𝑟ℯℯ𝑤𝑒𝑏𝑛𝘰𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝒸𝑜𝘮
Everyone was screaming and running. The once joyful ski resort was thrown into chaos. The ski resort staff worked to calmly and methodically evacuate the visitors.
An emergency announcement started playing over the speakers.
"Dear guests, this is the announcer for Xiangshan Ski Resort. I now request all guests near the ski slopes to immediately cease your activities and follow the staff’s instructions to evacuate in an orderly fashion to a safe area.
"To the guests currently on the ski slopes, please remain calm and do not panic. The collapse involved only a small snow-covered hill. Our staff will clear the obstruction for you as quickly as possible and ensure your safety. Meanwhile, we will dispatch medical personnel to the scene to provide timely aid to any injured guests.
"Please cooperate with our staff and evacuate as directed. If you have any questions or need assistance, please do not hesitate to ask our staff members for help. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding."
Xue Yang and Lin Xi were skiing ahead, but behind them, an avalanche was rapidly catching up.
"Xue Yang, it’s dangerous! Let go of me, quick, or you’ll get caught too!" In this moment of danger, Lin Xi’s first thought was of Xue Yang’s safety.
But how could Xue Yang not be just as worried about hers?
"Don’t talk, just hold on tight! I won’t let anything happen to you. We’ll both be fine," he yelled over the wind.
With her extensive skiing experience, Lin Xi calmed down immediately upon hearing Xue Yang’s words.
The two of them picked up speed. When they encountered small mounds of snow, they adjusted their direction in perfect, swift unison. The avalanche was fast, but it was temporarily unable to catch the loving couple ahead.
The entire Xiangshan Ski Resort was in chaos. But on the slope, two agile figures were deftly navigating through obstacles in perfect sync, trying to race toward safety.
Many people were stunned by their impressive skiing skills.
"My God, are they snow elves?"
"They must be Kings smurfing in the novice zone!"
"Look, they’re still holding hands! I’ve worked at this ski resort for years, and this is the first time I’ve ever seen anyone ski an entire run while holding hands."
"I hope they’ll be okay."
At that moment, everyone forgot their own danger, only hoping those two figures would make it down safely.
"Hold me tight!" Xue Yang shouted.
Seeing an opportunity, the two of them kicked off their skis and dove for cover beneath a large tree.
Xue Yang had done his research before the trip. What’s the best way to survive an avalanche?
As they tumbled beneath the tree and were about to be buried by snow, Xue Yang embraced Lin Xi with one arm and thrust the other straight up toward the sky, trying to create an air pocket and a beacon for rescuers.
They had never been so close; their bodies were pressed tightly together.
"Lin Xi, can you hear me?"
"I can," came Lin Xi’s soft reply from below, and Xue Yang finally let out a breath of relief.
"Are you scared?"
"No."
"You even cry when it’s dark. Why aren’t you afraid of being buried in snow?"
"Because you’re here. As long as I’m with you, I’m not afraid of anything."
Xue Yang fell silent. He held Lin Xi tightly to his chest, shielding her from the freezing snow with his own body. He supported the small space around them and tried to conserve his own breathing, saving the precious air for her.
"Lin Xi, if we die here today, will you have any regrets?"
Lin Xi hugged Xue Yang tightly. "No regrets."
All she wanted was to be with him. Even if it meant death, she wouldn’t regret it.
"Lin Xi..."
Xue Yang wanted to say more, but he stopped himself. He could feel the oxygen in his lungs depleting. With every second that ticked by, the air in their small pocket grew thinner. Yet, he still needed to hear Lin Xi’s voice, because hearing her was the only way he knew she was still okay.
His only thought now was for Lin Xi to make it out alive.
As if realizing something, Lin Xi pressed her face against Xue Yang’s chest, feeling his weakening heartbeat.
"Xue Yang, I like you. I really, really like you. If we make it out of this, let’s be together, okay?"
"Okay..."
For them, time passed agonizingly slowly. But outside, people had been watching their descent. The moment they disappeared, ski resort staff and other tourists immediately began digging in their location. A couple so clearly in love and in sync couldn’t be allowed to perish.
"Found them! They’re here!"
"Everyone, hurry, help!"
Fortunately, in less than three minutes, they spotted Xue Yang’s upraised hand. Following the line of his arm, they quickly dug the couple out.
When Xue Yang and Lin Xi were revealed to the crowd, they were still in a tight embrace, with Xue Yang using his own body to shield Lin Xi and create a pocket of survival for her. He was covered in snow, nearly frozen stiff, while Lin Xi had only a light dusting on her.
The sight brought tears to the eyes of everyone present. In the face of such great love, the disaster seemed so small. A photography enthusiast couldn’t resist capturing the touching moment, wanting more people to see such pure love.
The moment she could breathe fresh air again, Lin Xi wrapped her arms tightly around Xue Yang.
"Xue Yang, we’re saved!" she cried. "We’re saved! WAAAHHH..."
Lin Xi hadn’t cried while buried in the snow, but now, in the safety of the rescue, she finally burst into tears.
