Rejected by the Campus Belle, I Find My True Love-Chapter 396 - 394: I Intentionally Deceived You to Come Here
"Xiao Yang, you haven’t been tricked into some shady company, have you? Otherwise, how could you be making money so fast!"
Xue Yuanqing almost fried his CPU trying to figure out how his son had suddenly become so impressive. The only thing he could think of was that his son must have joined some dubious company.
"Son, let me tell you, in our Xue Family, we must conduct ourselves with integrity. When we make money, it must be clean money. We don’t want anything with unclear origins. We did put you through college hoping you would become successful. But if things don’t work out, we won’t say anything. Everyone has their own destiny."
Xue Yang understood; this was how his parents had raised him. However, this money wasn’t from an unclear source. They simply didn’t know how quickly money could be made in today’s emerging industries.
"Dad, you know about the grand opening of the Hui City New Energy Vehicle Market, right?"
"I’ve heard about it. I also heard there are some pretty substantial discounts. I’ve been thinking about buying one for daily use. It’s fuel-efficient, sure, but the only drawback right now is the inconvenience of charging. Still, since they’re managing to open something on that scale, I imagine charging stations will eventually become as common as gas stations."
But why is Xiao Yang suddenly mentioning this?
"Dad, listen to me. Those drawbacks you mentioned won’t be drawbacks in the future."
"Hah, the way you say that makes it sound like this new energy business has something to do with you."
"Because I’m the one who opened the New Energy Vehicle Market. My next goal is to establish charging stations nationwide."
"What did you say?!"
"Dad, I said I’m the one who opened the New Energy Vehicle Market in Hui City."
"You’re joking with me, right?"
It was such a massive deal that anyone would have reacted the same way.
"Dad, why would I joke with you about this? The official opening is on August 8th, a date I chose myself. The reason I booked my flight for July 20th is also because of this. Otherwise, I really might not have the time to come back."
Xue Yuanqing was utterly stunned. He suddenly felt like he wasn’t on a video call with his son, but dreaming.
"Hold on, I think I stood up too fast. I’m going to lie down for a bit."
"Dad, I have no reason to joke with you about this. You just need to do a little research to find out if I’m lying."
After saying that, Xue Yang hung up. He had originally planned to explain everything in detail to his parents after he returned home, but that was clearly no longer feasible. After today’s events, Xue Yang was certain that if he hadn’t told them the truth, his parents would have been scrambling to scrape together money to send him.
He knew his parents too well. They had barely lived for themselves their entire lives. Instead, they had lived for him.
His was an ordinary family. At most, the pressure was slightly less because he was an only child. For him to try and build a real enterprise from such a background was like something out of a fantasy tale. In fact, a fantasy might have been easier to achieve.
When Zhong Hailan came out of the kitchen to call Xue Yuanqing for dinner, she found him lying on the sofa like a dead fish.
"What’s with the long face? You just got off a video call with our son."
"Honey, did I just have a video call with our son?"
"I think you’re getting old and muddled. Come and eat."
"Honey, do you know what our son just told me?"
"What did he say?"
"He said he’s the one who opened the New Energy Vehicle Market."
"Look at you, now you’re even more confused. Didn’t you already look into it? The New Energy Vehicle Market was opened by a foreigner, right? Xiao Zhi is often seen with that foreigner."
"Oh, that’s right. I’d forgotten about that."
Could my son have been lying to me? Deep down, Xue Yuanqing felt it was impossible. But given his personality, he would never call Xue Yang back right now to question him or directly accuse his own son.
"I’ll go to that New Energy Vehicle Market tomorrow and take a look."
"Looking is fine, but let’s not buy a car. We still need to save for our son’s wedding."
Originally, Zhong Hailan had also felt that another car would be convenient, but after her video call with Lin Xi, she decided it wasn’t urgent. They could save up slowly and buy one later.
"I’ll go check it out to see if what our son told me is true."
"It’s a good idea to go take a look."
...
On Xue Yang’s end, after hanging up, he guessed his father would definitely go to the vehicle market tomorrow to ask around. He considered giving Tony a heads-up but decided against it.
After all, he hadn’t lied, had he?
"Xue Yang, come here! The hairdryer isn’t working."
Hearing Lin Xi’s sweet voice, Xue Yang put down his phone and walked toward her. In that short time, she had already unpacked most of the delivered items. The large living room was now buried under a messy pile of boxes. It took Xue Yang a moment to find her behind a large one.
He couldn’t help but marvel. Girls really do love unboxing things, even if they have no idea what’s inside.
"Xue Yang~ hurry up and look."
Lin Xi tilted her head up, looking at him with a pitiful expression.
"Let me see."
Xue Yang squatted down, picked up the hairdryer, and examined it for a moment. He then followed the cord to the plug and couldn’t help but chuckle.
"What are you laughing at?"
She had been fiddling with it for ages with no response, and now Xue Yang was laughing at her. Hmph, what a jerk.
Xue Yang picked up the plug and dangled it in front of her. "You didn’t plug it in. How could it possibly work?"
Lin Xi blinked her big eyes, her gaze shifting from the plug to Xue Yang. Her pretty face slowly changed from aggrieved to embarrassed, and a blush crept up her cheeks. She snatched the plug from his hand. "You... you’re not allowed to laugh at me!"
This is so embarrassing! I forgot to plug it in and even called him over... What do I do now?
Suddenly, Lin Xi had an idea. "You probably think I called you over to look at the hairdryer, but that’s not it at all."
Xue Yang raised an eyebrow, curious to see what kind of excuse she would concoct. Just then, he saw Xiao Naimao suddenly pounce toward him with a playful yelp.
Caught off guard, Xue Yang was knocked to the ground. The sweet scent of her perfume filled his nose, and the thudding of a heart echoed between them.
Lin Xi grew even more embarrassed. This damn heartbeat! Can’t it slow down a bit? It’s making me seem so passive, like I have a guilty conscience.
Xue Yang watched her. So when she can’t come up with an explanation, she resorts to seduction. It has to be said, Xiao Naimao is getting more and more skillful.
"I lured you over here on purpose," Lin Xi said, though her voice lacked conviction.
Xue Yang decided to tease her and went along with it. "You lured me over. And then?"
And then? She had no idea what came next! It was just an excuse she’d made up on the spot. Damn it, Xue Yang must be doing this on purpose!
