Rejected by the Campus Belle, I Find My True Love-Chapter 189 - 187: Enemies on a Narrow Road
Si Wen answered the phone and walked off to the side, clearly not wanting to be overheard. Seeing this, the boy was gentlemanly enough not to disturb her.
"Me? I... I’m at home." Si Wen was a terrible liar and always stuttered when she tried.
"Didn’t Xue Yang make a peach blossom tree for you last time?" Lin Xi asked. "I’m just checking if it’s broken. Mine hasn’t broken yet."
When did this little girl learn to fib? Xue Yang, who was with Lin Xi, raised his eyebrows slightly.
Si Wen’s shoulders slumped in defeat. "Okay, fine. I’m not at home. I’m out."
"Good. Now, turn and walk quickly toward your three o’clock."
"Oh." Although Si Wen didn’t understand why, she did as Lin Xi said and quickly walked in the indicated direction.
Suddenly, a dark figure pulled her into a corner. It happened so fast that she had no time to dodge or even scream.
Just as she began to struggle, a familiar voice whispered in her ear, "Shush! Don’t shout, it’s us."
It was Lin Xi’s voice. Si Wen’s eyes focused and saw her friend standing there, a finger pressed to her lips in a gesture for silence.
I don’t even need to guess who’s covering my mouth. It has to be Xue Yang.
"MMPH! MMPH!" she protested against his hand.
"Promise you won’t scream," Lin Xi said.
Si Wen nodded, muffling an affirmation.
At that, Xue Yang released her and quickly moved back to Lin Xi’s side.
"Sorry about that, Si Wen," Xue Yang said. "We had no other choice."
"What are you two doing?" Si Wen demanded, completely bewildered.
Lin Xi got straight to the point. "Is that guy your new boyfriend?"
Si Wen’s face flushed. "No! Dad just asked me to spend the day with him. I figured it was better than being bored at home, so I agreed."
"It’s definitely not that simple! You’re thinking that if he’s a decent guy, you might actually date him, right?" Lin Xi knew her friend better than anyone. If Si Wen hadn’t had some intention of dating him, she would never have agreed to go out with him at all.
"Yes, so what? Is there something wrong with that?" Si Wen’s tone turned defensive. What are they implying? That my dad has bad judgment?
"It’s not wrong, but... do you even know this guy?"
"Not really. Dad just said his family’s status is a good match for ours and that I should get to know him, so I thought I’d give it a shot."
"How about we help you test him?" Lin Xi suggested.
"Huh? How would you do that?"
Xue Yang explained, "It’s simple. You’ll move to three different places and call him from each, but you won’t let him find you. We’ll watch his reaction from a distance."
"Oh." Compared to the stranger she was on a date with, Si Wen trusted Lin Xi and Xue Yang implicitly.
They had their reasons for suggesting this plan. They had no hard evidence that the boy was a bad person, so if they simply told Si Wen to be careful, she wouldn’t believe them. It could even cause a rift in their friendship. The best approach was to let Si Wen see the guy’s true colors for herself. That way, they wouldn’t have to waste their breath arguing.
Meanwhile, the boy was gazing into the distance, feeling ecstatic. Being on a date with a rich young lady as beautiful as Si Wen put him in an excellent mood. Even the scenery seemed more beautiful because of it. 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝔀𝓮𝒃𝙣𝓸𝒗𝒆𝒍.𝙘𝒐𝒎
Being with a beautiful woman really makes everything better. It would be perfect if something... more... could happen tonight. Her figure is a little lacking, sure, but her face is gorgeous. Aside from *that one*, Si Wen was the most beautiful girl he had ever seen.
When he finally turned around, however, Si Wen was nowhere in sight. The boy felt a flash of annoyance. He’d been so lost in the view that he hadn’t even noticed she’d finished her call. Could she be angry?
He quickly pulled out his phone and called her.
Soon, Si Wen’s voice came through the phone, noticeably cold. "Hello, Wang Doudou."
That’s right. The boy with Si Wen was none other than Wang Doudou. He was the same person who had brazenly taken Chen Ying out in Yanbei, tried to force her to a hotel against her will, and was only stopped when Xue Yang came to her rescue. If Chen Ying hadn’t been clever enough to call Xue Yang for help beforehand, the consequences would have been unimaginable. And now, unexpectedly, they had run into him again. Enemies truly have a way of crossing paths.
That was why Xue Yang had insisted on getting Si Wen away from him the moment he saw him. Si Wen alone with a man like that was no different from a lamb in a tiger’s den.
Wang Doudou was taken aback, wondering why her tone had suddenly turned so harsh. He kept a smile in his voice as he asked, "Si Wen, where did you go?"
"Oh, I suddenly had to use the restroom. You seemed so lost in the view that I didn’t want to bother you, so I went on my own."
"Si Wen, you don’t have to be a stranger. If you need to use the restroom, just tell me and I’ll take you. Don’t move from where you are. I’ll be right over to find you."
After they hung up, Xue Yang led the two girls to a hidden spot from where they could see Wang Doudou without being seen.
About ten minutes later, Wang Doudou arrived at the restrooms. After searching for a moment and finding no sign of Si Wen, he managed to keep his patience and called her again.
"Si Wen, I’m here by the restrooms, but I don’t see you."
"Oh, you took too long. I got bored waiting, so I started walking toward Yonghe Palace," Si Wen said, carefully watching his expression.
As she predicted, Wang Doudou’s face darkened the moment he heard she’d already left. His words, however, remained gentle. "I’m so sorry, that’s my fault. I was too slow and kept you waiting. I’ll head over to Yonghe Palace right away."
After hanging up, Wang Doudou stomped his foot in frustration. If not for the fact that every plant and tree in the Imperial City was precious, he would have smashed something. Muttering a curse under his breath, he stalked off in the direction she had given him.
Si Wen remarked dryly, "I don’t think we need to proceed with the next location." He got this angry after being sent on just one wild goose chase. Imagine if we did it again...
She then composed a text message to Wang Doudou, telling him that luring him to the restroom had been a test, that she’d seen his reaction, and that they clearly weren’t a match. With that, she ended things and deleted his contact information.
"My first budding romance," she lamented, "withered before it could even bloom."
Lin Xi put an arm around her shoulder. "He just wasn’t the right one for you. Someday, you’ll definitely find someone who will truly cherish and love you."
