Chapter 183: Chapter 181: Only When You Care About Someone Deeply Will You Be Extremely Cautious

Lin Xi glanced at the insulated container in her hand. After a moment of thought, she still said, "It’s nothing."

What if he’s already eaten? Bringing him food now would just make him eat a second time.

Lin Xi had been too anxious, which was why she’d forgotten about this possibility.

"What happened?" Xue Yang asked.

"Nothing, I just wanted to call you," Lin Xi said.

"Study hard at home. I’ll be home as soon as I finish my work. I’ll try to be early."

"Okay."

After hanging up, Lin Xi stood before the towering skyscraper. In the past, she had looked at buildings like this without feeling anything special.

But now... facing such a structure, she was suddenly filled with a sense of loneliness.

Lin Xi clutched the insulated container, standing there, at a complete loss.

Should I go back? Yeah, maybe I should just go back. What could I accomplish by staying here? It’s just a shame about all the effort I put into this soup. I really want to know what Xue Yang would think of it.

At that thought, Lin Xi felt tears sting her eyes.

"Xiao Xi?"

Just then, she heard a familiar voice in front of her.

Lin Xi snapped her head up and saw Xue Yang emerging from the glass doors.

"Xue Yang?" Seeing him, Lin Xi quickly hid the container behind her back.

You only act this cautiously when you care about someone a great deal, don’t you?

"What are you holding?" Xue Yang asked.

"N-nothing. Aren’t you at work? Why did you come down?"

"I haven’t had lunch yet. I was just about to go eat."

"You haven’t had lunch yet?" Lin Xi’s voice shot up with excitement.

"What’s wrong?"

Xue Yang had come downstairs right after his call with Lin Xi ended. The moment he stepped out of the elevator, he saw a familiar pink figure standing by the entrance. At first, he thought he was seeing things, since he’d just gotten off the phone with her. Unexpectedly, it really was her.

Lin Xi lowered her head, brought the insulated container out from behind her back, and offered it to Xue Yang with both hands. "Xue Yang, actually... I came to bring you lunch. I was just afraid you had already eaten, so I hesitated once I got here."

She looked extremely nervous.

Staring at the container, Xue Yang was stunned.

So, she called because she had brought him lunch. But since it was past the usual lunch hour, she was worried he might feel obligated to force himself to eat it. That’s why she changed her mind when she got to the building. What a silly girl.

Xue Yang took a deep breath, a smile spreading across his face as he took the container from her. "Really? That’s perfect, I’m starving. Let’s see what delicious food you brought me."

Lin Xi’s head shot up, her face bright with joy. "Then let’s find a place to sit."

"Okay."

The two went to a nearby supermarket and found a seating area inside. Xue Yang took all the food out of the insulated container. It was a lavish meal of four dishes and a soup that looked and smelled delicious, and the aroma was very familiar.

"This is Auntie Shen’s cooking! Did she come over?"

Thinking of Auntie Shen, Xue Yang felt a surge of gratitude. He had no real connection to her, yet she treated him as warmly as an elder.

"Yes, she came over this morning. She was running a little late, so I was a bit late delivering it too."

Xue Yang’s mouth watered. "I haven’t had Auntie Shen’s cooking in ages, and I was just craving it. Mmm, it’s as delicious as ever."

Lin Xi said, "Yes, for the time being, I’ve arranged for Auntie Shen to come cook for us during the day and go home at night."

"Won’t going back and forth be too much trouble for Auntie Shen?"

"Not at all. Auntie Shen is happy to do it. She even asked why it took me so long to call her. Here, try this lotus root and pork rib soup."

The last time she drank the lotus root and pork rib soup Xue Yang had made, Lin Xi thought it was incredibly delicious and also simple to prepare, so she chose that soup this time.

She thought it turned out decently when she tasted it herself, but it was still a far cry from the one Xue Yang made. She didn’t know what she did wrong, but it just wasn’t the same.

Xue Yang looked at the expectant young woman across from him, and a thought suddenly occurred to him.

Could it be that she made this lotus root and pork rib soup? This girl usually only washed vegetables—a skill he himself had taught her. Could she really make soup? Still, seeing her expression, as if she were heading into battle, Xue Yang thought to himself that he would drink every last drop, no matter how awful it was.

However, when he took a sip, he was surprised. "It’s delicious," Xue Yang said, giving his honest opinion.

To be able to make it this well on the first try was truly remarkable. He still remembered his own first attempt at making soup; he’d almost dumped in half a bag of salt. The memory of that salty taste was still vivid.

"Really?"

"Of course. It’s the best soup I’ve ever had."

Lin Xi was ecstatic. If there weren’t so many people around, she would have thrown herself at Xue Yang.

To her, nothing was more important than receiving his praise after making soup for him for the first time.

Her previous apprehension vanished in an instant, all thanks to his words.

"If you like it, I’ll learn to make other kinds of soup for you next time."

"Thank you."

"Of course."

After finishing her meal, Si Wen didn’t leave the dining table right away. She glanced at the dishes, pursed her lips, and her hands tightened unconsciously.

"Auntie Shen, did Xiao Xi pack up all of the soup and take it with her?"

Auntie Shen glanced at Si Wen and smiled. "Miss Si Wen, there’s still some left. How could Miss Lin Xi possibly forget you?"

Si Wen tucked a strand of hair behind her ear, avoiding Auntie Shen’s gaze. "I was just asking. It’s fine if there’s none left."

Auntie Shen stood and went to the kitchen, returning with the soup Lin Xi had left for Si Wen. "See? Miss Lin Xi even specifically saved some meat and lotus root for you. And carrots are good for your eyes. You study so hard every day, you should eat more of them."

"But I don’t even like carrots." Despite her words, Si Wen finished every last drop of the soup, bits and all. 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝒆𝒘𝙚𝓫𝙣𝙤𝒗𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢

"So? Miss Lin Xi’s cooking is pretty good, isn’t it?" Auntie Shen asked.

"It’s decent, I guess. By the way, Auntie Shen, could you teach me how to make this soup too? It looked quite simple when Lin Xi was making it."

"Of course. It looks like we’re out of ingredients, though. I’ll go out and buy some in a bit."

"I’ll go with you. I’ve actually never been to a wet market before. Um, I’m just curious, don’t get the wrong idea," Si Wen said, then stood up and left the table.

Auntie Shen watched Si Wen’s awkward little display and didn’t say anything, simply starting to deftly clear the table and clean the kitchen.

Both Miss Lin Xi and Miss Si Wen are such good children. I hope they both find happiness and boys who will truly love them in the future.

After tidying up the kitchen, Auntie Shen went to the wet market with Si Wen.

"Miss Si Wen, the wet market might not be what you imagine, so you should be prepared."

"If Lin Xi can go, then of course I won’t have a problem."
