Rejected by the Campus Belle, I Find My True Love-Chapter 157 - 156: Kind People Won’t Have Too Bad Luck
Seeing the waiter about to pour the boiling water, Xue Yang shouted, "Get back!"
The shout caught the woman’s attention. She turned to see the waiter approaching with the boiling water, and her expression changed drastically as she instinctively shielded her child.
In that split second, moving like a god descending from the heavens, Xue Yang kicked stools out from both sides, blocking the waiter’s path.
The waiter’s hand was scalded. He instantly let go, and the pot of boiling water CLATTERED to the ground, splashing onto his feet. The scalding water made him howl in pain.
"Aah! It burns, it burns, it burns!"
The other patrons reacted, and the hotpot restaurant owner rushed out from the kitchen. Seeing the situation, he ducked back inside and emerged with a basin of cold water. He splashed it on the waiter’s feet, which lessened the agony, but the man was still in excruciating pain.
"Quick, call an ambulance!"
The restaurant was thrown into pandemonium.
Cui Hao and Yu Kexin ran to Xue Yang’s side.
"Are you okay?"
"I’m fine."
Chen Ying and Wu Xiaoya were pale with fright.
After the initial shock wore off, the woman realized the danger had passed. She sent her child over to her own mother before approaching Xue Yang to thank him sincerely. "Thank you. If it weren’t for you, the consequences would have been unimaginable!"
As she spoke, a wave of delayed fear washed over her. It wouldn’t have mattered so much if she had gotten hurt, but she was terrified that her daughter might have been caught up in it. She also realized she should have been more patient. Working such a busy job isn’t easy for anyone. She just never expected the waiter to have such a volatile temper and try to retaliate on the spot.
"It was nothing," Xue Yang replied.
He also felt a surge of delayed fear. In the heat of the moment, however, there had been no time to think.
The woman sized up Xue Yang. She hadn’t gotten a good look at him before, but now she noticed that despite wearing a simple military greatcoat, he was very striking. He carried himself with a convincing air of confidence.
She smiled and asked, "Are you a student from a nearby university?"
Xue Yang replied, "I’m a student at Yanbei University."
"Heroes truly are born from the young. This is my business card. Please contact me if you ever need anything."
Xue Yang took the business card and glanced at it. He was instantly astonished.
"You’re General Manager Jiang of LoL!"
Xue Yang studied the woman before him. She looked to be in her early forties, with large, wavy curls and a black, mid-length coat. She was clearly the strong, career-woman type. Having navigated the business world for years, she naturally exuded an aura of authority. That was probably why she had confronted the waiter; she must have felt she was being ignored for too long.
Jiang Wei nodded slightly. "That’s right."
Xue Yang couldn’t believe it. He’d just gone out for hotpot and, by a strange twist of fate, had met the general manager of LoL. And he’d even saved her!
It must be true that good things happen to good people. And Xue Yang had always considered himself a good person.
Just then, Ms. Jiang Wei’s mother returned with the little girl. The child stood beside her grandmother, gazing up at the tall, handsome young man before her. Her wide eyes were filled with admiration. Xue Yang’s heroic kick had left a deep impression on her.
"Big brother, you’re so handsome!"
Xue Yang walked over to the little girl and squatted down to be at her eye level. He smiled and said, "Thank you. My name is Xue Yang. What’s your name?"
"Brother Xue Yang, my name is Jiang Sisi. That’s ’Si’ as in ’to miss someone,’ not ’si’ as in shredded ginger! My classmates all like to call me ’Ginger Shreds,’ though. I don’t really like it, but it’s okay. If they like calling me that, they can."
It was clear that Ms. Jiang’s daughter was a very cheerful little girl.
"Hmm, Sisi. That’s a very nice name."
"I think so too! My mom picked it for me."
Xue Yang gently patted her little head. This little girl was just too adorable.
Still shaken from the incident, Ms. Jiang Wei reminded Xue Yang one more time to contact her, then hurriedly left with her mother and child.
Xue Yang held the business card, his mind racing. Just when he’d been racking his brain about how to get in touch with the people at LoL, an opportunity had fallen right into his lap.
Seeing Xue Yang standing there silently, Cui Hao clapped a hand on his shoulder. "Xue Yang, what’s wrong?"
"Look at this."
Xue Yang handed the business card to Cui Hao, who took it, confused. When he read the details on the card, his eyes widened in astonishment. "Holy crap! Xue Yang, your luck is insane."
Yu Kexin looked puzzled. When Cui Hao showed her the card, her expression was just as shocked as his.
"So, we have another path forward now. This is great!" She hadn’t expected things to go so smoothly; it felt like a dream. Now, all they had to do was make a great game and convince them.
"What are we waiting for? I’m going back to work overtime right now!"
"Me too! Let’s go, Xue Yang."
The trio’s morale was at an all-time high. The trip from the office to the hotpot restaurant had taken them ten minutes. The return trip took less than five. That alone was proof of how fired up they were.
「...」
By the time they emerged from the office again, it was almost midnight.
"Are you going back to the dorm or heading home?" Cui Hao asked.
Xue Yang looked up at the sky. It hadn’t snowed for several days. Other than the biting cold, he didn’t feel much else.
"I’ll go home," he said.
"Alright, be careful on your way home. Kexin and I are heading back to the dorm."
"Okay."
Xue Yang watched Cui Hao and Yu Kexin go, then hailed a taxi to his rented apartment.
He’d only been away from Lin Xi for a single day, but it felt like an entire year. He’d never understood the saying, "A day apart feels like three autumns." Now, he finally did. He didn’t notice it while he was working, but the moment he stopped, his longing for her rushed in like a tidal wave, threatening to drown him.
It was past one in the morning when he got out of the taxi downstairs. The streets were nearly devoid of pedestrians and cars. He looked up at the master bedroom window on the eighth floor. As expected, it was dark.
Maybe he should leave a light on next time. That way, no matter how late he returned, he would always see the master bedroom lit up.
Having made up his mind, Xue Yang opened the building’s main door and headed upstairs. With each step he took, the motion-sensor lights activated, illuminating one floor after another. Finally, the light in the eighth-floor corridor flickered on, casting his tall silhouette at the top of the stairs.
He dug the keys out of his pocket and looked up, only to freeze. A familiar figure was squatting by his front door.
The figure was curled into a small ball, arms wrapped around their knees, head buried deep within them. All he could see was a lovely back and the soft nape of a neck.
Xue Yang rushed over and knelt before her. He had never seen the school uniform she was wearing, but he recognized her instantly.
"Lin Xi?"
