Rejected By My Mate, Now Mated To The Lycan King-Chapter 89
~ NYSSA
There was no time to change into something decent before leaving.
We abandoned what was an amazing dinner date and got into the car. Rowan drove in silence, his jaw clenched and his teeth grinding with each passing minute.
Rowan turned down the path leading towards the palace and my brows furrowed in confusion. "I thought we were going to see Henry."
"We are," he said curtly.
"You said he was at the border."
"I’m not going to leave him there now am I?" he drawled, voice laced with annoyance. "Unless you want to drive out there in your five inch heels."
"Why are you upset with me?" I asked, cutting him off.
I was done playing the silent game with him. I ignored it at first, hoping that he’d come to his senses but it was clear that wasn’t going to happen anytime soon.
I could see how he’d believe that I planned this. After all, my goal was to make him jealous. However even he had to see the ridiculousness of the situation. Why the hell would I call in Henry of all people when the last time we saw each other, he wanted to have me thrown in a cell.
"Drop it, Nyssa," he ground out but I ignored him.
"I don’t know why Henry is here. You were there when we left the pack. You helped me leave, What time could I have possibly had to call him? I was with you all night, and when I wasn’t, I was with Aria. If you don’t believe me then maybe you should talk to your sister. Maybe you’ll trust her."
He sighed deeply, running a hand through his hair. "I’m not—"
"You are," I cut him off sharply. "You know for a moment I thought we were making progress, and now this."
He opened his mouth to speak but the words didn’t come out, and I didn’t wait for him to gather his thoughts. As soon as the car parked in the courtyard, I stormed out, lips pursed and arms crossed over my chest.
Aria was standing by the doorway wearing a pair of loose cotton pants and a simple crop top. It was too casual... even for her. If I had to guess, she was pulled straight out of bed.
"Thank goodness, you’re here," she sighed in relief when she saw me. "Do you have any idea what this is about?"
I shook my head, relieved that for once I wasn’t being attacked. "DO you?"
"He won’t say a word. He says that he will only speak to you."
"Take me to him."
"I don’t know if that’s a good idea," Rowan’s voice cut in from behind me. "I do not want you around him right now. We do not know what his plans are and—"
"You don’t control me, Rowan," I snapped, cutting off whatever he was about to say. "I am not one of your pack members."
"You are in my pack," he ground out. "And you are my mate." I opened my mouth to protest but he held up a hand to stop me. "You can be pissed at me all you want and you can grind your teeth and call me every name under the fucking sun but you’re not seeing him alone. That is final."
My blood boiled inside of me like a raging inferno. I wanted to scream, to rip my hair straight out of my head and yet, another part of me knew that he was right. I shouldn’t see Henry alone. There was no telling what his plan was.
"Fine," I grit out. "Just stay out of my way."
Aria sent me a questioning look as she glanced between Rowan and me. I shook my head, silently assuring her that I’d tell her about it later and she seemed to take the hint because she nodded and began to lead us towards where Henry was being kept.
We went down the halls until we stopped in front of the throne room... the very same room where I’d met Rowan for the first time and made the arrangement that brought us to this place.
It seemed like a lifetime ago that all of that happened.
"Are you sure about this?" Aria asked, her voice gentle as she lay a hand on my arm. "You don’t have to—"
"I will be fine. Henry cannot hurt me."
She didn’t seem to believe me, but she didn’t protest. She just nodded, shooting me an encouraging smile before stepping back.
I exhaled deeply, calming my raging heart before pushing the doors open.
Henry stood in the middle of the room pacing, his clothes rumpled and his hair sticking up around the edges as if he’d run his fingers through it too many times.
He stopped in his tracks as soon as he heard the door, his mouth dropping open as he saw me and his eyes roaming over every inch of my skin and face.
"Nyssa," he whispered, voice low.
He spoke my name like a dream, the way he used to say it when we were together and I was convinced that he was in love with me.
I stepped into the room, hands clasped in front of me and my eyes locked with his. He didn’t seem to have any weapons on him. To be honest, there was nothing on him save for the clothes on his back.
"Why are you here, Henry? You just showed up out of nowhere. If this is about—"
I didn’t get to finish what I wanted to say because he was crossing the length of the room immediately, heading straight for me with a purpose. It all happened so fast that I didn’t have the time to think about what he intended to do.
However, of all the things I thought, I did not expect him to haul me into his arms, his hands wrapping around my waist as he slammed his lips to mine in a bruising kiss.
