Chapter 968: Chapter 943: Eye Disorder

Xie Jue not only didn’t wear the new clothes he bought today, he also didn’t wear the set he originally intended to change into, but instead wore the clothes he changed out of today. Fang Chuning moved his clothes around on the shelf, gathering them all together. Even if Xie Jue didn’t like the set he bought today, it’s impossible for him not to change, unless...

"Are your eyes not seeing clearly?" Fang Chuning strode over, waving his hand in front of Xie Jue’s eyes. Xie Jue’s eyeballs followed the motion of his hand; he could see, but it was somewhat blurry.

Fang Chuning looked menacingly, and Xie Jue grasped his wrist, "I can see!"

"You’re deceiving me! You didn’t change your clothes today!" Fang Chuning smartly broke through his lie; he knew Xie Jue’s eyes weren’t completely blind. Xie Jue had explained that his vision at night was blurred, like being shrouded in mist. Fang Chuning pulled him back onto the bed, "Sit here, I’ll go get a doctor."

Without waiting for a response, he stepped out, but Xie Jue called him back, "Come back!"

Fang Chuning stared at him angrily, but did not move. Xie Jue couldn’t see Fang Chuning’s expression, only a blurry shadow. He could infer Fang Chuning’s emotions from his tone, especially after their intimate exchange behind the screen, followed quickly by facing his anger. Xie Jue was somewhat surprised.

"I’ll write a prescription, you go get the medicine; indeed, my eye condition relapsed tonight."

"Why didn’t you say so earlier!" Fang Chuning was infuriated; if he had known the eye condition relapsed, he wouldn’t have teased Xie Jue and would have gone to get the doctor immediately.

Xie Jue stood, intending to go to the desk. Fang Chuning worried he might trip, so he assisted him to the desk and even moved the oil lamp closer, so Xie Jue could see better. He wrote the prescription, the ink still needing time to dry. Xie Jue asked, "Where are the clothes you bought?"

Fang Chuning glanced at his still blushing face, his anger slightly subsiding. He went in and brought out the clothes, laid them on the bed, but in silent resentment, he didn’t speak a word to Xie Jue as he took the prescription out. 𝕗𝐫𝚎𝗲𝘄𝐞𝕓𝐧𝕠𝘃𝕖𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝚖

Xie Jue lightly tapped his fingers on the table, pondering deeply on what Fang Chuning actually remembered. Had Fang Chuning not insisted he hadn’t regained his memory, Xie Jue might have subconsciously assumed he had fully recovered.

Anning had no reason to lie to him.

Perhaps he was just overthinking!

Yet tonight, his reactions seemed unusually familiar, no longer the distant feeling from before memory loss. He could even feel Fang Chuning’s gaze and thoughts all centered on him. Xie Jue was sensitive to Fang Chuning’s emotions; having been loved and cherished wholeheartedly by someone, he naturally understood that person’s state.

Perhaps some memories had indeed returned!

Fang Chuning went to get the medicine. The government office had a pharmacy, and the herbs Xie Jue needed weren’t rare. The office’s doctor prepared the medicine, and Fang Chuning asked how to brew it. Regretting not observing when the Shadow Guard brewed medicine before, he realized now he should personally handle Xie Jue’s matters, brewing medicine included!

The doctor explained in detail how to brew the medicine, and Fang Chuning took careful notes. Upon returning to the courtyard, Xie Jue had already changed into the clothes bought today. It was tailored to his size, finely cut, enhancing Xie Jue’s graceful and handsome appearance. Fang Chuning had no mind to admire it, worried about Xie Jue’s impaired vision in the room. He moved the medicine stove and pot to the corridor to brew there. Xie Jue sat on the warm bed near the window, while Fang Chuning sat on a small stool under the window, tending to the fire and the medicine.

"Let the servants handle these things." Xie Jue suggested.

"I want to." Fang Chuning, still upset, wouldn’t ignore him, but spoke stiffly.

Xie Jue leaned on the window sill, explaining to him, "Anning, I didn’t intentionally hide this from you. Before returning to the room, I hadn’t noticed anything unusual. Initially, I planned to wash up and then send someone for the medicine overnight, not to intentionally deceive."

Upon hearing the explanation, Fang Chuning felt tender yet helpless, looking up at him, "Really?"

"Really!" Xie Jue indeed hadn’t hidden anything, but was curious about what he recalled, "You mentioned remembering some things, what did you remember?"

"I recalled some things from when we were in Beiman." Fang Chuning feared Xie Jue would see through his unease, so looked down at the fire, "We wore Beiman wedding clothes, bowed to each other in marriage, and then... our wedding night."

Xie Jue, "..."

The air suddenly turned silent! Xie Jue had propped himself on the window sill, chatting casually with Fang Chuning, but now slowly settled back, his face redder than when behind the screen. Fang Chuning didn’t speak either; he wasn’t lying, but rather intentionally inciting Xie Jue, "Before dying, for some reason, I remembered that past. Perhaps it’s the most important thing in my life. If I died with a blank memory, I’d rest uneasy. Heaven was merciful, granting me a sliver of recollection."

And such a vivid recollection.

Xie Jue coughed lightly, sipping the now-cold tea on the warm bed. Pingnan County’s tea was coarse and astringent, lacking fragrance, purely to quench thirst. Xie Jue asked, "Did you remember everything about Beiman?"

"Not entirely, fragmented pieces I remembered." Fang Chuning lied without a blink, "Did we really... just like the rumors?"

Xie Jue wasn’t sure what rumors he referred to, as they weren’t portrayed positively in them. He was momentarily at a loss on how to respond.

Fang Chuning stayed quiet for a while, unable to hold back asking Xie Jue, "Ting Feng, if I regain memory, are you happy?"

"Of course!" Xie Jue affirmed; everything he did was to help Fang Chuning regain his memory swiftly, how could he not be happy? He desperately hoped Fang Chuning would immediately recover his memory.

"I thought you’d be disappointed!"

"Why?"

Fang Chuning smiled softly, "If you were eager for me to recover memory, we wouldn’t have delayed along the way and headed straight to Beiman without stopping in between."

"Then what do you think... my intention is?" Xie Jue asked casually.

Fang Chuning said, "You hope I... fall in love with you again. Did I guess right?"

Without childhood sentiment, would they fall in love with each other again?

"Hmm, you guessed it." Xie Jue’s heart was exposed, he admitted freely, not feeling ashamed about it. Fang Chuning was intensely curious about his thoughts.

The charcoal on the stove burned steadily, the water in the medicine pot boiling over, bubbling vigorously. Fang Chuning asked, "Why do you have such a thought? Was it... was the pre-amnesia me indecisive, making you anxious, or... wasn’t I loving you enough?"

"No!" Xie Jue shook his head, "None of that! It’s my own issue."

"Can you tell me?"

Xie Jue remained silent, unwilling to reveal this personal matter, especially since Fang Chuning hadn’t regained his memory.

"If you tell me, I won’t hold your eye condition relapse against you." Fang Chuning coaxed him, determined to know the reason.
