Chapter 98: #98-Until When Will You Not Talk To Me?

Will she eventually die again?

Penelope couldn’t move her trembling body at all. The woman cried and gulped as she looked at the monster running toward her while carrying a blunt weapon that was also as big as its red body. Was it even fair for the monster to carry a weapon as big as its size?!

Just as Penelope was about to give up on her life, she thought of the baby she was carrying. The baby is innocent. The baby wants to be born into the world. The baby wants to be given a chance to live. Then, Penelope’s motherly instincts kick in. She stared at the monster that was snarling at her with a murderous look.

’Goddess Elleia, I want to live! I want to give birth to my child into this world and show them all beautiful things!’ Penelope pleaded in her heart.

Then, as if hearing Penelope’s plea, that pink light began to appear on Penelope’s body. The circle with the magic symbol was also visible under Penelope’s body. The woman blinked and looked down at herself. This light was so warm and Penelope remembered that it was this light that made her teleport from Gerwyn’s mansion to Isabella Lysander’s room.

When the big red monster got close to her and was already swinging its weapon at her, the monster was sent flying. Penelope had seen a black light hit the red monster’s body before the monster was thrown away with a growl. Not only Penelope, Edmund Gerwyn, who ran as fast as he could toward his wife to help her, was shocked by what he saw. He frowned and knelt beside Penelope, who was still surrounded by the pink light.

"Penny, are you all right?" asked Edmund in a worried tone. However, when he was about to hug Penelope, his body seemed to be hit by an electric current, and the Duke was thrown away like the monster, which was now being taken care of by the knights of the Gerwyn family. While groaning because his back hit the pillar and was assisted by Edgar, who faithfully followed him, Edmund looked at Penelope with a look of confusion and disbelief. "Penny?"

Penelope was as clueless as Edmund. She opened her palms and looked at it. The pink light was getting brighter. Then, Penelope turned her head when she heard her name being called. Isabella Lysander immediately knelt near her and hugged her tightly. This made Penelope blink and Edmund’s eyes widened.

"Why can you hug her while I was thrown when I wanted to touch her?" asked Edmund in disbelief.

Isabella let go of Penelope’s body and raised an eyebrow. "Maybe it’s because Duke Edmund is a jerk for hurting the Duchess that the Duchess decided to run away from the mansion?"

"Huh?!" Edmund stood up and hissed in pain. He held his right shoulder. "What do you mean?"

"I may not know what happened between you and the Duchess, Duke," said Isabella in a stern tone. "But, I know that the matter between you two has made the Duchess sad and cry. Then, this power. I’m not going to ask how the Duchess could have this kind of power. But, if the Duchess had powers, didn’t that mean the child she was carrying also had powers? If what I’m saying is true, it means your child doesn’t even want to be touched by you because the child is mad at you, Duke! Your child is angry because you made the Duchess sad and cry. That’s why this power throws you the moment you’re about to touch the Duchess."

"What kind of nonsense—"

"No, I think that does make sense."

Those words made Edmund, Penelope, and Isabella turn their heads. A golden-colored magic circle appeared and Helios Rune Abelavish descended from the sky along with Jeremy. He smiled at Penelope while waving his hand, making Penelope smile faintly and nod.

"Duchess, I’m glad you’re okay," Helios said. "I’m glad to know that your power protects you. Then, let me ask you one thing. Don’t you want Duke Edmund to touch you? Is that why you threw Duke Edmund with your power?"

Penelope cleared her throat and shook her head. "I don’t know if Ed—I mean, Duke—intends to touch me or hug me. I was also surprised when I saw that he couldn’t get close to me and was just thrown away."

Helios nodded and looked at Edmund. "That means, it was your child, who forbade you to touch the Duchess, Duke."

Edmund snorted and stared at the red monster that had been killed by the knights of the Gerwyn family. After making sure the situation was under control and safe, the Duke glanced down the small alley. That small alley was the place where the black light that threw the big red monster came from.

"Chris," called Edmund. The shadow knight appeared and knelt before Edmund. "Check that alley. I felt a strange aura from that direction. Whoever was there and shot the black light at the red monster, protected the Duchess."

Chris immediately carried out the orders given by Edmund. After that, Edmund approached Penelope and tried to touch her again. However, just as before, there was an electric current that made Edmund hiss in pain. But luckily, Edmund didn’t get thrown away like before.

"Penny, are you... still mad at me?" asked Edmund, apologetically. However, Penelope just kept quiet and looked away. Her hands clenched tightly. The woman was again reminded of Edmund’s cold attitude and his snaps at her. Penelope wanted to cry but she held herself back. "Until when will you not talk to me?"

Penelope stood up and Isabella rushed to help her. Then, the woman bowed to Edmund without looking him in the face. 𝚏𝐫𝚎𝗲𝕨𝐞𝐛𝕟𝚘𝐯𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝗺

"Thank you for saving me, Duke Edmund," Penelope said in a flat tone. She looked at Isabella. "Isabel, let’s get out of here. I’m tired. I want to rest."

Isabella bit her lip. She looked between Penelope and Edmund. The woman was confused as to how to react. She wanted to defend Penelope but the sight of Edmund made her feel pity. Isabella looked at Helios and Edgar. The two men were as confused as she was.

"Penny, come home with me," said Edmund. He tried to touch Penelope but couldn’t. Even though it hurt when his hand was hit by electricity from the pink light on Penelope’s body, Edmund didn’t care. The man was going to take Penelope Askary home with him.

Seeing Edmund wince in pain, Penelope became worried. The woman bit her lip and rubbed her stomach. Smiling, Penelope said, "My dear child, if you are the one doing this, stop right now. He is your Father. Respect your Father. Even if your Father hurts Mother’s heart, you must not hurt him."

After saying that, the pink light on Penelope’s body disappeared. Edmund also no longer felt the painful electricity in his hands and body. He could touch Penelope’s arm now. However, Penelope jerked Edmund’s hand away and gave him a flat look.

"I will go home but not to your mansion. I’m going back to Lysander’s mansion."

"Penny—"

"Isabel," Penelope said, hugging Isabella’s arm. "Let us go home."

"Huh? Oh." Isabella nodded and scratched her cheek. She bowed to Edmund and Helios and took Penelope carefully. Isabella glanced at Penelope and the woman was crying. Then, Isabella looked back. She could see Edmund looking down while clenching his fists. Sighing heavily, Isabella looked up at the sky.

What should she do to make the Duke and Duchess reconcile and clear up the misunderstandings between them?

###

It was late at night but Penelope didn’t want to sleep.

She occupied one of the guest rooms in the Lysander mansion. The woman had already met with Marquess Lysander and asked permission to stay the night. Even though Marquess Lysander looks very cold and scary, Penelope doesn’t care. Her status was above Marquess’. If that man dared to do strange things to her, Penelope could get Marquess Lysander in deep trouble. That was how strong Penelope’s position was in this empire.

The woman took a walk around the Lysander family’s garden. Then, Penelope decided to sit on one of the big trees in the backyard of Lysander’s mansion. She leaned against a tree and looked up at the stars in the sky. The cold night wind didn’t make Penelope want to go into the warm room to rest. Penelope was tired, both physically and mentally.

"I want to go home," Penelope muttered. The woman began to cry and wiped away the tears that streamed down her pretty face. "I’m tired of being in this world. I want to just go back to being Sienna. Even though I’m alone in that cruel world, I don’t have to feel this heartache. This world is unfamiliar to me. I can’t live my life as Penelope Askary. Goddess Elleia, help me. Just return me to my original world."

"No!"

The exclamation made Penelope flinch. She wiped away her tears and stood up quickly. Then, when Penelope turned her head, the woman’s eyes widened when she saw Edmund Gerwyn already in front of her. Penelope gulped and looked around. There’s nobody here.

"What are you doing here?" Penelope asked in a sharp tone. "Did you infiltrate someone else’s mansion?!"

"I don’t care about stuff like that, Penny," said Edmund in a firm tone. "Anyway, I won’t let you return to your original world! You are mine! You’re my wife!"

"Ha!" Penelope laughed mockingly and wiped away the tears that were streaming down her face again. "Your wife, you say? You even act cold to me, look at me with disgust when you know I’m not the real Penelope Askary. That I am just a soul that came from another world."

Penelope intended to leave Edmund but the man immediately grabbed her arm. Then, the Duke pulled Penelope’s body into his arms. He hugged Penelope’s waist tightly. Possessiveness was seen in the way Edmund looked at Penelope.

"I have never looked at you with disgust. And I don’t care about the fact that you’re not the real Penelope Askary. You are mine now. I love the woman in front of me!"

"That’s funny," Penelope snorted. She struggled, trying to escape from Edmund’s embrace. "Let go of me, you jerk! I hate you! I don’t want to be near you anymore!"

Lie. Because, the truth is, Penelope could not stay away from Edmund. She missed Edmund. She wanted Edmund. But, her sadness due to Edmund’s rejection made Penelope not want to admit this.

"I don’t care if you hate me, Penny," said Edmund. "If you’re by my side, no matter how much you hate me, I won’t mind it. I love you. I need you."

"You are totally a selfish man, Duke Edmund!" Penelope growled. The woman was no longer hiding her tears. "I will live alone! I can take care of my child alone!"

"That child is mine too, Penelope Askary," replied Edmund. Still in the same firm tone. "The blood that flows in that child’s body, the flesh that makes up that child’s body, half of it belongs to me! I have the right to that child. I have the right over you. I will never let you two go from my arms, from my life, Penelope. Whether it’s Sienna or Penelope, you’re still my wife and you’re still mine!"

After saying that, Edmund Gerwyn immediately kissed Penelope Askary’s lips with a kiss that described his frustration and also his longing for her.
