Gabriel Brown cursed inside his heart.

The man had spent the rest of his life in the temple since his divine power had awakened. He was appointed head priest because of his growing power and also because there was no suitable candidate in the temple for the position. He is also grateful that because of his power, he is adored by many people. But, suddenly the Goddess Oizys came to him and said that Penelope Askary had all the powers of the Goddess Elleia! Isn’t such a thing so impossible? The one with the most power in the temple is him but Goddess Elleia didn’t even choose him? Goddess Elleia chose a cruel woman like Penelope Askary?! Of course, Gabriel Brown could not accept that and was very grateful to Goddess Oizys because the Goddess wanted to help him take all that power from Penelope Askary.

However, Gabriel had no idea he would be in such dire straits just because of a woman. He had to make all kinds of plans so that Penelope would stay in the temple and so he could take all the power of the Goddess Elleia from the woman’s body. "Duke, please calm down for a second," Gabriel Brown said in a panicked tone. The long-haired man tried to stand up and glanced behind Edmund. A man he didn’t recognize had appeared near Penelope and was protecting her as well as protecting the twins. Then, there was another stranger, who also appeared suddenly near Edmund. Who are these two and when did they appear? "I have no intention of doing anything to the Prince and the Princess."

Edmund snorted. His eyes were getting sharper. "Nonsense! If you didn’t have bad intentions toward Raven and Ocean, you wouldn’t have been thrown like this by them! Actually, I don’t want to say this but it seems I have no other choice. My children are special. They got the blessing directly from the Goddess Elleia and also the power of the Goddess! If an evil force tries to harm them, they will immediately activate their power and make those who intend to harm them, suffer."

Gabriel clenched his jaw. However, he couldn’t show this kind of expression in front of the Duke. He had to look like an innocent man and wouldn’t hurt anyone. 𝒇𝒓𝒆𝒆𝙬𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝒎

"Duke, I really don’t know what’s going on. I just want to give my blessing as a head priest to the successors of Duke Edmund," said Gabriel. He gulped and looked at Penelope with a pitiful gaze. "Duchess, I mean it. I don’t know why the Prince and the Princess attacked me like this."

Penelope was silent. She looked at Raven and Ocean. The twins were playing with their tiny hands. It was as if Raven and Ocean didn’t care about the commotion Gabriel caused. The twins looked at Penelope with happy eyes and smiled broadly. Then, when Penelope returned their smiles, the woman felt something was off. When the twins glanced at Gabriel, their eyes were sharp and cold. Very similar to Edmund Gerwyn’s gaze when her husband was facing his enemies. But, as if that had never happened and was just a hallucination, Penelope now saw the twins laughing and screaming happily.

"Ed," Penelope called. She approached Edmund and stroked his arm gently. The woman smiled reassuringly. "Maybe it’s just a misunderstanding. Maybe the twins felt threatened because it was the first time they met the head priest." Penelope looked at Gabriel and smiled apologetically. "Head priest, pardon my children’s mischief. I’m sure they didn’t do it on purpose."

Gabriel laughed and scratched his cheek. "It’s okay, Duchess. Maybe the Prince and the Princess were surprised because it was the first time they saw me. Err, well then, maybe I should head back to the temple. See you later, Duke, Duchess."

When Gabriel left the room, Edmund immediately looked at Chris and Jellal, who had appeared immediately when he heard the commotion. "You two, go and watch over that man. I’m suspicious of him. Then, get Edgar over here."

"Alright, Your Grace," said Chris and Jellal together. The two men immediately disappeared and Edmund approached Penelope, who was already holding Ocean. Edmund put down his sword, then picked up Raven. The man checked the condition of the twins and breathed a sigh of relief when he found out that his children were fine.

"I felt uncomfortable around him earlier," Penelope said in a low voice. "But, I didn’t feel it when we were in the living room. Does... the head priest really want to do evil things to Raven and Ocean?"

"Penny, not all humans in that temple have a pure heart," said Edmund in a firm tone. He let Raven hit him and also scratched him. His children are very active and different from other normal children. "Sometimes, their hearts are rotten and they hide it very well. Many of them manipulated the minds of the nobles to get what they wanted. So, you still have to be careful in front of him. After all, the man was from the Brown family. He is the older brother of Lady Elisha Brown."

Penelope frowned. In the original novel, not much is told about the Brown family. There is little information about the Brown family. They were cunning people, who liked to manipulate the nobles. That’s all that was told in the original novel. And also about Elisha Brown’s feelings for Edmund Gerwyn. But, she had done nothing but like Edmund Gerwyn from a distance. Unlike the real Penelope Askary, who always tortured and bullied Isabella Lysander.

"Why do you look worried, Penny?" asked Edmund in a confused tone. "You don’t have to worry about the head priest or the Browns. I won’t let them bother you and the kids."

"No, that’s not it." Penelope shook her head. Because the story was so far from the original story, Penelope was sure that something would happen to her and Edmund because of the Brown family. "It’s just that Lady Elisha Brown likes you, Ed."

Edmund frowned. "What?"

Penelope smiled awkwardly. "Well, let’s just say that this is my knowledge of this world when I read about it when I was living as Sienna back then." The woman took a deep breath. She looked at Edmund with a stern gaze. "Watching over the head priest is a good thing. But, I want Lady Elisha Brown to be watched as well. If that woman really likes you and is obsessed with you, I’m sure she will do something to you or me. And, I was thinking maybe Sebastian De Louis would contact her to ask her to work with him."

The De Louis Empire?

Penelope blinked and frowned. She glanced around. The De Louis Empire was currently in ruins. Fire is everywhere. People were crying and screaming for help. Strange monsters appear and rampage. This sight frightened Penelope and the woman immediately panicked.

"Ed?! Where are you?! Raven?! Ocean?!" Penelope shouted. She ran to find her husband and children. Tears streamed down her pretty face. Her heart was beating twice as fast as usual. The fear was starting to overtake her. "Edmund!"

Then, Penelope managed to find the man. Edmund was on his knees trying to catch his breath. The man is injured. Blood was all over his body and also on his handsome face. He held on to the sword that stuck at his side. His eyes stared straight ahead. His gaze was full of despair.

"Penny, open your eyes, Honey! It’s me, Edmund! It’s me, your husband! Go back to being the old Penny, please! Come back to being kind and gentle Penelope Askary, Darling!"

Hearing that, Penelope froze. Her body was shaking. She gulped and stared straight ahead. More precisely, in the direction Edmund was staring at. Penelope gasped and covered her mouth with both hands. Then, the woman fell to her knees and shook her head.

"How... did I get there?" Penelope muttered.

Penelope, who was in front of her, was now laughing mockingly. She approached Edmund and looked down. Then, the woman gripped Edmund’s chin until the man lifted his head.

"Edmund, Edmund... you are really pathetic right now. Where did that cruel Duke go?" the woman taunted. "Me? Kind? Ha! I’ve always been cruel, Edmund! You have to wake up from your nightmare. Accept your fate of having to die by my hands along with the pitiful people of this empire!"

"Penny, please go back to how you used to be!" shouted Edmund. The handsome man was crying. "Don’t you miss Raven and Ocean? They keep crying because they miss you, Honey."

The woman fell silent. She tilted her head then released Edmund’s chin and snapped her fingers.

"Ah, you mean these children?" asked the woman.

Suddenly, a magic circle appeared before Edmund. Then, children around one year old lay helplessly on top of the magic circle. They were covered in blood, and so was Sarah. Seeing that, Edmund froze and his blue eyes widened. Likewise, Penelope Askary, who is currently watching the incident from a distance. She screamed hysterically and ran to her twins. When Penelope would hold the twins, the woman could not touch them.

"NO!" Penelope shouted. "No! Raven, Ocean, open your eyes! It’s Mommy, Honey!"

The woman in front of Edmund laughed again. A scary laugh. Edmund, with his sharp and cold eyes, still had tears in his eyes. He stood up and growled out loud.

"Are you mad that I killed those children, Edmund Gerwyn?" asked the woman in a mocking tone. "But, I have to take their magic power. After all, they are so noisy and bother me! They are useless in this world, Edmund."

"I will kill you!" shouted Edmund. "I will never forgive you, Penelope Askary!"

Penelope cried even more when she saw Edmund fighting with the other version of her. This is most likely to happen in the future. Penelope screamed in agony when she saw Edmund’s sword piercing her heart.

Apparently, her destiny remains the same.

She would still die at the hands of Edmund Gerwyn in the future.
