Reincarnation in the 60s: My Spatial Supermarket Brings Forth Wealth-Chapter 229: The Little One Squatting in the Corner
Just as the family was enjoying their meal, Lin Xue noticed a shadow flicker in the yard, but it disappeared before she could see it clearly.
However, she knew the person had come inside and must be hiding under the window.
They always ate in the living room, with cradles prepared for the two young children, placed conveniently by the table.
In the sweltering summer, the outer door was open, which is how Lin Xue could see the shadow; otherwise, it would have been invisible.
She ate her meal without revealing her thoughts, knowing that at this time, every household should be cooking and eating. The only ones wandering around aimlessly outside at this time were likely children.
She waited for that little rascal to become impatient and come in on his own.
Sure enough, before she’d had more than a few bites, the child squatting by the door couldn’t hold back any longer and slowly crept into the house.
"Hello, Aunt, Grandma Bai..." He greeted the elders in the family upon entering, but when he saw Lin Xue, he was clearly frightened and shrank back.
"Rusheng! Come over here, why aren’t you having dinner at home?" Bai Xianglan had severed ties with the Bai Family, yet found herself liking this little guy who would come over occasionally, appearing to be quite well-behaved.
Gangzi had reached his thirties without having any children, so it’s needless to say how fond he was of them. Upon seeing how sensible this child was, she started liking him, regardless of the fact that he was Grandma Bai’s grandson.
Curiously, since Grandma Bai brought Gangzi back, only six-year-old Bai Rusheng started to become noticeably mature and sensible.
After coming over, he merely amused the two little ones without rummaging or searching around the house, and wouldn’t take anything unless given to him.
"Grandma... My grandma and Aunt are fighting again, no one is cooking at home, and my parents are at work and haven’t returned yet!" A clear voice responded as the small figure stood.
Lin Xue suddenly recalled that this was the youngest son from the third uncle’s family, Bai Rusheng.
Before, she detested the old mansion, hence disliking anyone from it, including this little one.
After their families severed ties, the children from the third uncle’s family seldom came over to be bothersome, so she had nearly forgotten what this child looked like.
"Why are they fighting again? Can’t they just live a peaceful life, what’s there to fight about every day?" Wang Cuihua muttered, seeing poor Rusheng standing by, swallowing his saliva but refraining from misbehaving or crowding toward the table. "Xiao Yun, bring a bowl and chopsticks for Rusheng!"
However, Lin Yun looked at her elder sister instead of fetching the utensils immediately.
Lin Xue knew that this practiced action meant it wasn’t the first time he’d come over, and Wang Cuihua’s gesture wasn’t the first time she was feeding him either. Although the people at the old mansion were mean, a six-year-old child couldn’t understand much. As long as he didn’t speak out after eating, they could still give him a meal.
Even though she was aware that indulging him like this might lead to frequent visits, as long as it didn’t cross her boundaries, feeding him was better than letting such a young child go hungry.
So she nodded to her sister, "Go ahead! Serve him a bowl of food!"
Lin Yun then stood up to fetch the bowl and chopsticks and served some food to Rusheng.
"Rusheng! Over here!" Lin Xue called out, without much warmth.
After all, he was just a child; who wouldn’t be tempted by delightful food? At this moment, young Bai Rusheng couldn’t see anything beyond the food, his gaze fixated on the table’s dishes, yet he obediently walked over.
"Big sister..." he called weakly.
"Hmm! You want some food, right?" Lin Xue softened her tone to ask.
The little guy nodded, his face full of longing, although he swallowed his saliva hard. "Big sister, do you have enough? If not, I’ll go home to eat! Once my mom is back, she’ll cook!"
Lin Xue watched him talking without even blinking at the food, laughing as she tapped his head.
"You can eat if you want! But you must remember not to tell anyone about what you eat here—not your siblings, parents, or especially your grandparents, uncle, and aunt! If you can manage that, sneak over when you’re really hungry, and I’ll give you something to eat!" Lin Xue said seriously.
She said this because she noticed her grandma really liked the little guy, and he didn’t mean much harm to their family.
"Really, big sister? I won’t tell, I’ll keep it a secret! Promise!" The little guy raised his hand to assure, still swallowing his saliva.
"If you can keep your word, you’ll have food! Remember, if you say a word, don’t come to our house again! Got it?" Lin Xue reiterated sternly.
The six-year-old child seemed to understand what he ought to, and with Lin Xue’s words, he probably wouldn’t speak out.
"Got it! I’ll remember, big sister!" The little guy nodded fiercely.
"Alright! Sit down and eat! Stay a while after eating and then go home! Head back when the taste in your mouth fades!" Lin Xue instructed, turning to resume eating her own meal.
She mercifully agreed to let him eat but didn’t show any kindness in helping him with his meal.
She still somewhat resented her mother’s saintly behavior, fearing it might attract trouble. Here she was, feeding this little one, and if he told the old lady Bai, who knows what antics she might pull!
In times of disaster, who wouldn’t covet food?
Having finally cut ties with those folks, she didn’t want to invite trouble for herself.
After listening to Lin Xue, the little guy quickly found a place to sit and began eating with the bowl and chopsticks Lin Yun had handed over. Yet Lin Xue noticed he rarely reached for the meat with his chopsticks, she felt a bit more tenderness toward him.
She signaled Lin Yun with her eyes, and Lin Yun put a piece of chicken in Rusheng’s bowl.
"Eat! Just don’t talk about it after you finish eating!" Lin Yun’s voice was always gentle and soft, and now she spoke to the little guy with a smile, inexplicably healing. 𝘧𝓇ℯ𝑒𝓌𝑒𝑏𝓃𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘭.𝒸ℴ𝓂
The little guy nodded, feeling a sudden surge of emotion and nearly burst into tears.
He hadn’t expected his cousins to treat him so well at Uncle’s house—something even his own siblings hadn’t done, as they often tried to snatch things from him.
Having constantly overheard his grandma curse about Uncle’s family with all sorts of horrible things, he once believed that Uncle’s family were villains. But now, it seemed, none of them were bad; they allowed him to eat such delicious food, and his second sister even offered him meat with a smile.
The little guy was instantly overwhelmed, and in the future, he liked his cousins even more than his siblings. Though, that’s a story for another time.
"Now! You’ll eat less if you cry while eating! Stop crying!" Lin Xia stiffly consoled.
Because the little guy was seated between Lin Yun and Lin Xia.
"Hurry and eat! Quit crying!" Wang Cuihua reached out to wipe the little guy’s tears.
The kindness shown by this family rescued the worldview of a young lad.
Since that uncle returned and brought home a new aunt, this child almost had his worldview ruined.
Once the big sister allowed Bai Rusheng to sit down and eat, the younger ones didn’t argue anymore and began passing their favorite dishes to the little guy.
Bai Xianglan looked at her kind-hearted grandchildren, smiling with satisfaction.
She had been worried that her eldest granddaughter might have been angry after she arbitrarily decided to keep the little guy.
