Reincarnated To Evolve My Bee Empire-Chapter 393: The million problems of the four kingdoms
Chapter 393: The million problems of the four kingdoms
"Ugh..." I crawled from under the table and met the concerned eyes of my bee-wife. "I don’t even know where to start explaining..."
She carefully crouched next to me and stared at me even closer.
"Are you well? Workharder messaged me saying that you started crying suddenly, and Things-Things was worried too... Despite trying not to show it. Hm..." Amby reached out to rub my cheeks, then licked her finger. "Dry and not salty at all. And why is there spilled tea everywhere?"
For a moment we just stared at each other in confusion—Amby because of the situation she found me in, and I because did she just taste me for tears?
Then I jumped to my feet, pulling Ambrosia up with me.
"Alright, I was *not* crying, I was just hit with a mood. For a moment! Then Dalmanrach appeared to me and spooked me to spill my tea. And instead of talking like a normal person, he spoke to me from the tea *again*! Oh, we are going to have so much pain in our asses, Amby."
I told Ambrosia about what Dalmanrach shared, then added,
"Honestly, at this point I’m unsure if we should rush this ’mission’. Our resources are limited—we can’t waste them. And so far the gods mostly gave us problems..."
Ambrosia frowned.
"But if these kingdoms are on the verge of destruction... Consider the possible consequences of that, Nectus."
I nodded. This reminded me of something Amby told me much, much earlier...
"Until now they were rotting alive, but slowly. First, if they fall entirely, it will be much harder to create infrastructure after we conquer these territories. Instead of converting the existing one, we will have to rebuild from scratch. Second, and more important—the more humans die, the more resources from them are gathered by other species and their gods. I’m sure that destroying these kingdoms will give the species involved some bonuses."
"And if you add into this a possible punishment from the gods," at the last word, Ambrosia’s tone became sharp and hateful like a piece of Lego under your foot, "we are left without a choice on the matter."
I chewed my lip.
"Honestly... They are very invested in our victory, and their influence isn’t unlimited. I’m not absolutely sure the gods *can* punish us very hard. At first, when it was only the Goddess of Bees and she was acting illegally—sure. But now... The situation is different."
I wished Dalmanrach didn’t disappear so quickly so I could ask. The system provided no information. There was also another thought that was nagging me.
In this world, the God of Humanity still had a limited influence, and seemed to spend a lot of it on humans living on other continents of this world. Like in the Vardish Empire.
But in my original world, humans were the absolutely dominant species! How influential was God of Humanity there? What could he do? Could he take my family hostage? Wouldn’t he have threatened me already if he could?
Well, the Goddess of Bees sure had threatened me with death of loved ones in *this* world, and I wouldn’t bet on the God of Humanity having any more morals.
In short...
"I’m still not risking it, Amby. Maybe I’m just scaring myself, but... No. Let’s just message our people in the Naregan Kingdom and ask, for a start, how much food it has to spare at the moment."
Amby smiled slightly.
"We will start solving this problem by inspecting our current resources—most reasonable. And... whatever has troubled you before is certainly forgotten now, Necty. Good!" She kissed me on the cheek slightly. "Let’s go. And I will call an Attendant to clean the mess here."
***
The inspection showed that the Naregan Kingdom had supplies for *slight* humanitarian aid. A lot of food was already sold to the same kingdoms that were still slowly dying, so at least it wasn’t wasted, I supposed.
As for the other kingdoms themselves, there were four largest ones in the area, and half a dozen smaller ones that could be dismissed for now. Thanks to the work of brave preachers and their Agent Bees that have been working there for a long time, citizens of these kingdoms had some faith in Dalmanrach and even learned some hygiene.
However, they were threatened by a lot of things besides even the usual plagues, famines and desperate bandits.
The largest one was also the poorest—Barahi Kingdom. It was doing relatively well, because its king had bought the most food from the Naregan Kingdom, but now its treasury was empty.
So far, the king of Barahi acted a lot in the interests of his country, even humbling himself to plead Farini for help, and assisting with bringing forth hygiene. I felt that we might have no problems there at all.
The next one was Judji. Not a kingdom—at least, it didn’t call itself this way, or any other way. And it was ruled by a senate. This nation lived on a strip of land near the sea and relied mostly on fish as its source of food. Although fish was also rapidly evolving, so far, this country didn’t suffer from the global famines as much as others.
The other problems remained.
The Kachi-Chi Kingdom was standing next to Judji on a massive river, which was a source of its fertile lands... and floods. Lots of floods.
Now there were no fertile lands, but still lots of floods. I felt like they might be a worse problem for us than anything else.
Finally, there was the Hatha Kingdom. It repelled Farini’s missionaries the most, because its citizens were fervent followers of a notably different religion from Naregan’s. It wasn’t as different as Vardish’s religion, but still would slow down any conquests by a lot.
And, while I was considering this information and drafting plans—perhaps Judji could share food with other countries if it could be better preserved? Could a dam be built on the Chi River?—an Attendant brought me some news.
"The Vardish Empire sent a message to High King Farini, Father!"
