Chapter 260: Siren Attack

Thinking about the locals, the magical wind died down as a thick, unnatural fog rolled over the water.

Visibility dropped to zero. The Sunken Stars, the bioluminescent abyss jellyfish were obscured, turning the world into a grey, suffocating void.

"Fog," Isabelle hissed, her horns twitching nervously.

"I can’t see the water."

"It’s not just fog," Damien said, his metallic voice low.

He tapped the side of his mask. Thankfully as a seventh-order powerhouse, his eye sight was many times better than a regular persons

However, just before he could make sense of what was in front of him, the music started.

It wasn’t a roar or a scream that one would expect from beasts in the ocean.

Instead, it was a melody. High, sweet, and incredibly sad. It sounded like a woman weeping a lullaby.

...come to me... ...sleep... ...the water is warm...

The sound drifted over the waves, bypassing the ears and vibrating directly in the skull.

A sound so soulful that it made everyone’s pupils unknowingly shrink as they slowly became entranced

"Mother?"

Elian’s eyes glazed over. The sharp intelligence of the ex-Arch-Mage vanished, replaced by a dull, childlike stupor. He stood up from his seated position on the raft.

"I hear you," Elian whispered, stumbling toward the edge of the driftwood. "I’m coming."

He stepped toward the black water as if it were solid ground.

"GRAAAH!"

Isabelle reacted differently.

Her demon blood boiled. The mental intrusion felt like needles being driven into her brain. Her eyes glowed a unstable, violent red.

"Get out of my head!" she screamed, her hands igniting with black gravity sparks.

She aimed a blast of magic directly at the water, a move that would capsize their fragile raft and kill them all.

"Stop."

Damien moved.

His [Phantom Speed] blurred.

He grabbed Elian by the collar with his left hand, yanking the old man back onto the center of the raft.

With his right hand, he chopped Isabelle lightly on the back of the neck, disrupting her mana flow.

"Focus, Isabelle," Damien ordered, his Will slamming into her mind like a distinct, cold wall.

"It seems we have some unwanted company."

Isabelle gasped, dropping to her knees, clutching her head.

"It hurts, Master! It feels like... like someone is trying to break through my head!"

Hearing this, Damien’s face turned cold, how dare someone harm his people

He looked out into the fog.

The appearance of Zero emanating a depressing aura as he used his system to scan the surroundings, highlighting five distinct heat signatures circling the raft.

[Target: Abyss Siren (Tier 4)]

[Ability: Psionic Song / Illusion]

"Sirens," Damien scoffed.

"Hideous fish trying to be opera singers."

"In the orginal novel, these were one of the monsters I liked the least"

Through the fog, shapes began to emerge.

To Elian’s drugged eyes, they looked like beautiful, pale women rising from the waves, their arms outstretched in welcome.

To Damien’s calm eyes, they were nightmares.

They were humanoid, yes. But their skin was grey and slimy.

Their mouths were too wide, filled with needle-like teeth. A fleshy appendage dangled from their foreheads, glowing with the mesmerizing light that created the illusion.

They screeched a higher note, intensifying the mental attack.

"You call that music?" Damien stood in the center of the raft.

He sat down, crossing his legs.

"You are singing in front of Mozart."

He placed his gloved palm flat against the wet wood of the raft.

[Skill Activated: Structural Resonance]

[Skill Activated: Siren’s Chord ]

The raft at this moment wasn’t just wood; under his control, it acted likea conductor.

And the water below was the perfect amplifier.

"Let me show you," Damien whispered, taking a deep breath. "Real sound."

HUMMMMMMM.

Damien hummed a single, low-frequency note.

It was dissonant. Heavy. It vibrated with the weight of the Greedy King’s Intent.

The sound traveled through his hand, into the wood, and exploded into the water.

BOOM.

The water around the raft began to boil, from the vibration. The surface shattered into millions of tiny droplets that hung in the air.

The Siren’s song faltered. Their high-pitched lullaby clashed with Damien’s crushing bass note.

It was Order versus Chaos.

Damien increased the output.

In a trance, he unknowingly began to input his will into his music, unknowingly after experimenting with will for so long, he had begun to imbue it in his way of life

The hum turned into a roar.

The fog shattered.

"SCREEEE!"

The five Sirens circling the raft screamed in agony. Their delicate auditory organs, evolved to hear heartbeats underwater, ruptured instantly under the sonic pressure.

Blood poured from their gills. The illusion of beauty flickered and died, revealing their true, monstrous forms.

Elian blinked, shaking his head as the spell broke. He looked at the "beautiful women" and saw the hideous angler-fish monsters.

"Gods above!" Elian shouted, scrambling back.

In a spat of panic, the Sirens flailed in the water, disoriented and deaf.

Damien stopped humming. The vibration ceased.

He stood up, adjusting his coat.

"Terrible pitch," Damien critiqued, looking down at the monsters. "if you were my student I might have considered teaching you more."

He looked at Isabelle. She was panting, but her eyes were clear.

"Isabelle. They are deaf and confused. Finish them." 𝒇𝒓𝒆𝒆𝙬𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝒎

Isabelle stood up. Her humiliation at being controlled turned into rage.

She raised her hand.

From this incident she knew she had to get stronger and focus more on her will training.

However that would be after she had destroyed all of them

"[Gravity Magic: Crush]."

CRUNCH.

Five pillars of purple gravity slammed down onto the water.

The Sirens didn’t even have time to dive. They were flattened instantly, their bodies imploding under twenty times the gravity of earth. Blue blood stained the black water.

*BOOM!*

The fog began to lift, cleared away by the sonic blast.

Damien looked ahead.

Rising from the dark water, looming like a tombstone, was a jagged spire of black rock.

At the top, a fortress crumbled into the sea, illuminated by a rotating beam of white mana light.

"The Lighthouse," Damien said.

He looked at the dead Sirens floating around the raft.

He waved his hand.

"Full speed ahead."
