Chapter 63: The Weakest Adventurer

"That man is the weakest adventurer in the Guild," he’ll soon reach the S-rank.

"So you don’t mean he’s the strongest?"

"No, I said it right, he’s the weakest adventurer, they say he can’t even kill a slime."

"Then how is he getting into the S-rank?"

"You’d better find out for yourself."

The adventurer called Kalt approached the weakest adventurer and invited him to form a temporary group for a mission to kill monsters and collect red crystals in a dungeon.

The mission was rated B-rank, it was relatively easy, you just had to kill as many monsters as you could and you would earn 1 silver coin for each monster killed, the crystals would be per unit, 4 silver coins. There was no limit to the quantity. A noble alchemist wanted some crystals to use in some magic items and the monsters had no idea why he wanted so many, especially monsters that were inedible.

Clav, the weakest adventurer, accepted the mission and the group was formed. In addition to the two, there was a mage and an archer in the group.

Kalt used swords and Clav used nothing but a dagger. He had the highest rank of all.

Kalt was very curious about the nickname of the weakest adventurer because it didn’t make any sense, Clav had some muscles and if he managed to reach the A-rank, then it meant that he had accomplished a lot of missions, as well as passed the rank promotion exams, so he at least met the expectations of the evaluators. But what he had done was still a mystery to Kalt.

Kalt wasn’t part of that Guild, he was from another city in Sarcosia, and when he arrived in the city, the first thing he did was look for a mission for the group.

When the adventurers left the city walls, Clav asked if they had any supplies, as the mission might take a while.

Kalt was already prepared for situations like this; he carried a bag of food items. He always killed a few extra monsters and asked the Guild to cut up the meat, so he always had food for the team.

They entered a forest, after a while walking they came to the entrance of a cave, it had a rectangular shape, it was a different opening from the other caves, the entrance seemed to have been built on purpose.

Dungeons that are caves only appear after a while when there is an accumulation of mana in the place, dungeons can look like almost any existing structure, such as houses, castles, caves, or even different structures, such as a car garage, even if they don’t exist in this world, no one would find modern structures strange.

Clav stayed at the rear, even though he had to stay in the middle to maintain the group’s formation since the mage and the archer were supposed to provide support for those at the front and in the middle, but no one knew what Clav would do when they were attacked, since he only held a dagger.

"Maybe he’s a thief," Kalt thought, but without getting any other clues about Clav’s abilities.

The second floor was relatively easy, Clav just collected the crystals and the rest of the group killed the monsters and then Clav helped put them in the bag of items. At no point did he fight, he always stayed behind the group.

But the mining activity was being done without any problems, so the group didn’t complain, they were even enjoying not having to do manual labor.

After a while they went to the second floor, Clav was also collecting other crystals, Kalt complained, but was convinced that they could keep them and sell them on some mission, or simply sell them to the alchemist who hired them, or to someone else. Crystals are always sold.

Even though it took them a while to collect them, there was still more money in their pockets.

On the second floor a horde of orcs started attacking, this was rare, on the second floor the most common are very weak monsters, like slimes and some insect-type monsters, on the second-floor goblins were common. Orcs were common from the fourth floor onwards.

One of the orcs headed towards Clav, but a part of the ceiling fell and killed the orc.

Another orc went towards him, but he tripped and hit his head on the wall, the force of the impact strong enough to break the orc’s neck.

"So that was the motive," Kalt said aloud.

It was on this mission that Kalt understood why the weakest adventurer had such a high rank. When Clav was a child, he helped a witch carry groceries to her house in the forest. In gratitude, she granted him a blessing that was better than the one the gods bestowed on people. Clav managed to get lucky in any fight, any monster that attacked him would end up dead or badly hurt. That’s why he never managed to kill any monsters because fate was altered so that he always won.

And it was on this mission that he managed to raise his rank. It was also on this mission that they almost bankrupted the nobleman, they got so many monsters and so many red crystals that the nobleman created an almost lifetime supply.

Clav was in the arena, his confidence was high, he knew it would be impossible to lose. His opponent was a holy man, he wore white clothes and around his neck was a necklace with a large gold pendant, the pendant was the symbol of the Church of Creation.

Kaly was introducing all the competitors and she mentioned that Clav was considered the weakest adventurer in the whole continent, an S-rank adventurer who had never killed a monster in his entire life.

Everyone in the audience laughed, Clav liked the title because it was true, he had never managed to kill any slime, fate always made slimes die somehow. So he was the adventurer who never killed any monsters, even the E-ranked ones slaughtered one or two monsters when they were starting out. That’s why he was below everyone else.

"I’ll be brief," said the holy man.

Kaly finished his introductions and the fight began. The holy man unleashed a light spell, but he missed. This had never happened before, to miss a spell by such a short distance was a cause for shame, even more so a spell that cast a large ball of light.

He began to cast several spells and none hit Clav. The holy man began to get angry and also very embarrassed, as everyone began to laugh at his abilities.

Clav lay down on the floor.

"I’m going to sleep, I’m tired, seeing all your effort has made me sleepy."

The holy man became angrier, he took out a dagger that was in a holder on his belt, the dagger was oozing a liquid, it was poison. Poisoned weapons were not forbidden, but they were inadvisable.

The holy man began to walk towards Clav. When he went to stab him, he tripped and the knife pierced his shoulder, narrowly missing his heart.

In fights against humans, it was rarer for them to die, as death depended on Clav’s will. As he wanted a fight without any deaths, fate only caused his opponent to be seriously injured. But he was soon healed by the arena’s magicians.

"What was that I just saw?"

"He signed up as a mage, but he didn’t cast any spells and the other one should have been disqualified, so why didn’t they stop him from making the attack?" asked Cassandra.

"He received a blessing from an old witch from the forbidden forest."

Everyone fell silent.

The Forbidden Forest was home to monsters much stronger than the others they were used to, but these monsters only attacked people who invaded the forest, which is why it was called the Forbidden Forest.

It was common for some witches to live there, they were protected by the monsters, and from time to time they would leave and go to the cities, but they were harmless, as long as you didn’t try to attack them, in which case you would receive a curse that would last until the third bloodline.

"I let him be attacked just to teach the holy man a lesson, he broke the rules and received a just punishment."

Weapons were only allowed among knights and spearmen, but the weapons were swords and spears, which may or may not have poison in them.

"Summarize his skill," Cassandra asked.

"He doesn’t lose any combat, he’s never killed a monster, as I said, but that’s because the monster dies somehow, it always involves an accident that results in death or serious injury. That’s how he got the S-rank in the Adventurers’ Guild."

"An invincible soldier, that sounds very good. But is there any collateral damage for the team members?"

"There’s no damage, the blessing only affects opponents, he’s already carried out several group missions, and no member has reported that he harmed or injured them."

"He’s already in, even if he doesn’t pass, which I find difficult."

"With him, we could even take over a country," Darius said seriously, and people stared at him. "I’m joking, but you never know what will happen in the future."
