Reincarnated as the Baron's son: My Infinite Card Upgrade System-Chapter 118: ... Lord Alairc?
"She wants to kill him? I mean, I understand she did at one point to protect me, as she claims. But I’m dead already, what use would killing him be?"
Alaric thought to himself as he watched Satella approach Arnoch.
Judging from how quiet he was, he didn’t seem to care all too much about it. Similar to a patient who can already tell there was no way to save their life. They were already dead.
If the situation was different, Alaric wouldn’t care less what happened to him.
But it’s different now.
The god of Trinity.
How was he related to a god? And why did Satella call him Barbetos? Leaving such questions unanswered would only kill his curiosity.
Knowing Satella, she would most likely not want to tell him. His best bet was Arnoch.
"Hold on."
Alaric jerked up from the ground, putting himself in the middle of the both of them.
Satella halted.
"Killing him will do no good, he’s dead already, isn’t he? I mean look at him, he barely has any strength to fight back. Pathetic to be honest."
"That is because he doesn’t have his powers anymore, like me. But just like me, he can also regain his godly abilities with time, we should kill him before he does, or he’ll come hunting for you back."
"Yeah, but I’ll be dead." Alaric snapped back, "So as I said, it’s all pointless."
Satella glared for a while.
"Why are you supporting this man? He tried to kill you, and the world you live in."
"Dude, you literally did the same thing." Alaric sighed, "Listen, I have my own reasons, so if you are going to kill him again, then you’d have to do that to me too."
Though he wasn’t sure if it was even possible to die twice.
"Okay... If that’s what you want." Satella agreed.
Now this shocked Alaric and Arnoch.
And here he was, thinking he would have to use himself as some kind of leverage.
It wasn’t like Satella to just agree with something.
Suddenly, she sighed.
"You should return back to the real world," she uttered.
At first, Alaric didn’t quite understand what she meant by that.
Until she uttered again, but it wasn’t with a straight face, no, her expression was that of pain, almost as if she was about to burst out crying.
"Looks like she has found you, I can’t keep you here anymore."
Her words sunk deep.
To Alaric... yet another secret was being shot at him, and as always, he was at the center of it all.
...
Three years had passed since the great disaster happened around the world.
The world had returned to what it once was, although no one could forget about the death that once took them.
In accordance with the announcement done by the king of Verdenis, Ava Isenberg was the one who saved everyone from doom.
Her and the demons that everyone once hated.
The hatred for demons reduced but they weren’t accepted and still looked at with fear. As such, all the demons that once followed under Alaric stayed at the Montclair Barony, protecting it with their lives.
Other kingdoms, unlike Verdenis, were still uncertain as to the cause of their deaths. Knowing only the king of Verdenis knew what happened, she was called to defend herself at the roundtable.
Meanwhile...
(Land of Galdin, Nelva Kingdom.)
"Here you go, two plates of veggies and baked bread."
The waiter placed it on the table before them.
"Thank you."
Hina immediately grabbed her spoon and began digging into her food, almost as if she hadn’t eaten in weeks, which was slightly true.
Sitting at the opposite side of the table was Ava, a scarf around her neck while she stared at a small paper in her hand.
"How close are we now?" The third person spoke, her name was Kristen, and she was one of the main demons that followed Alaric while he was alive.
For the past few months, the three women had been on a long journey to travel to the east. A land where most people wouldn’t dream of going due to the high number of monsters that reside there.
After Alaric died, everyone in Montclair had felt horrible, some disgusted at the fact they couldn’t help him, others sad, some even going as far as to leave his body untouched, saying it was pure and didn’t deserve to be touched with dirt.
Everyone had their own way of processing their loss.
That was until Meren came with info to the barony, a land where a god once lived, the god of death, Hefrina. Back in the days, people would go there to pray for their loved ones, and it usually worked.
She was said to be a god who arrived on earth and never went back.
If they could get the god of life to help them, maybe they would be able to get his soul back.
Finally, the fourth person and last person on the chair, Alaric himself.
His eyes were devoid of life, making him look like he was nothing but a doll. And he was nothing but an empty vessel, one with no soul.
"We should be there in three days, I think. Depends on how fast we can arr-"
Baah!
Alaric fell from the chair.
"Lord Alaric...!"
Immediately, Ava moved fast, catching him before he could slam his head on the ground.
As soon as she had him in her grasp, she held on tight and never let go, not until he was back on the chair.
An empty vessel.
Everyone was shocked when Alaric suddenly woke up a month after he was dead. While they were happy, they noticed one small issue, he didn’t look like he was alive.
It felt like his body was just... existing, not able to talk or interact with anyone. All he did was... live.
This was the only reason the people of Montclair had a bit of hope in his return.
"I’m done. Let’s go, we can’t waste any time," said Hina after chugging down her whole meal.
"I’m with her, we should leave, here, I’ll hold Lord Alaric," Hefrina walked closer.
