Chapter 13 - One Month Later (In Another World)
Chapter 13
" Is this death?"
Still enshrouded in darkness, Megumi slowly tried opening his eyes as he tried to clench his hand into a fist. It was hard to imagine how long he had been out, and his trying to clench his fist was just a habit of his whenever he was in distress.
And as he had so thought, he couldn't even move a single one of his fingers. Every inch of his body felt stiff and he couldn't feel them. He could only think of the worst-case scenario as this felt similar to the first time.
" Is this death?"He thought, slowly heaving a sigh.
A few moments went by, and as he lay there with his eyes closed, he felt a sudden feeling of warmth by his side, but he was sadly unable to move closer to see what it was.

" how long do you think it'll be before he wakes up?" A familiar feminine voice spoke as slight footsteps slowly began approaching him.
" It's quite hard to deal with not knowing what could have caused the disease he's suffering, but I assure you that he'll be awake in the next few days." Replied another lady.
" I really hope you get well soon." her voice resounded once again.
He could feel that slight sense of familiarity as she spoke once again and he wanted to see her just once if he could. He tried once again to open his eyes, and after a few seconds, he could only catch a glimpse of her long, flowing white hair.
" She must be very pretty." he thought, slowly closing his eyes once again.
She was next to him, on the bed on which he laid with her hand on his forehead. Her gaze traced around the room, going from the worn-out concrete walls to the table in the middle of the room and the furnace by the side before her gaze trailed back to Megumi.
Her fingers slowly left him as she slowly stood up and walked out of the room with one last gaze at him. She walked into the room opposite his and picked up a few pieces of equipment she had left in there before leaving the house to go hunting.
It had been over a month since she appeared here alongside Megumi, things hadn't been the easiest for her since she had to deal with a sick patient, all while trying to fend for herself.
She would often sell a few things she would find along the way, and at other times, she would have to deal with bandits and thieves waiting in place for whoever would happen to be their unfortunate victim.
" Beasts are as rare as they can be around here. Who knows how long before I'll be able to find one, and deciding on how to sell it will even be a greater problem." She thought, slowly walking forward.
Heading straight west from the road just a few meters from her place of residence, she soon arrived inside the main center of the city with many people walking around to their different places of work. There were also many stalls opened around the place with most of the residents dressed in plain traditional outfits.
Going straight from there, she was able to reach a pathway leading out of the city a few minutes later, and she wasn't the only one who was currently going out to hunt. They were all heading out to do the same as her, and moments like this could get chaotic as their hunting areas would usually be close to each other.
For some reason, although they could use techniques and affinities just like them, they believed it was attributed to some strange gods that only appeared once in a while, and their individual strengths varied depending on how much a god had blessed them.
She would be in great danger if they happened to find out she could use her abilities without the so-called blessings from these "gods" and so to prevent matters from escalating, she always made sure to wear a mask before heading into the forest.
And today wasn't any different. She had to move ahead of the others to get a headstart, and with the amount of stamina she possessed, she could go on running for an entire day.
There were many mythical forests from the city, but the closest was the shinrin forest, and it wasn't even anywhere close. It took ten hours to get there the first time she went, and with her current speed, it would be over five hours before she would arrive at the destination.
Most wouldn't even bother trying as they would have already tired out before they could even reach their destination. Jumping through the trees, and taking whatever shortcuts were available to her, she was able to get there sooner than she had estimated.
And now, she was left standing at the entrance to the forest. Two trees were standing before her, each with shining white blossoms, and the birds flying around the place were as colorful as ever.
No matter how many times she would come here, she just couldn't get over how gracious this place was. With it being the closest mythical forest to the city of Raijin-cho- the city of the god of lightning, the amount of soul beasts present within it was slowly starting to dwindle.
Without wasting any more of her time, she quickly ran into the forest, carefully moving through the forest in order to avoid startling whatever creatures could possibly be around the area. The more she could get, the better, and she had to do so before more of the other hunters would begin arriving.
She went through every possible route she knew, trying as much as possible to avoid any unnecessary encounters, but after a thorough search, she realized that there weren't any soul beasts present around the area. There weren't any clues of them being hunted either.
All she could see were different prints on the floor leading deeper into the forest. They all followed the same path as she couldn't find any signs of the shrubs around the forest being trampled. Someone or something was leading the creatures far into the forest and she didn't know what.
While she was standing along the pathway, trying to figure out what could have possibly happened, loud stomps on the ground suddenly began occurring from the sides, and they only got louder as seconds passed. The ground began vibrating steadily, and she could feel her heart beating heavily as the sound got closer.
Something was charging towards her and looking forward into the forest from where she was, she could only catch a glimpse of its size. The trees wavered at its monstrous presence, and many more fell to the ground as it charged towards her.
Quickly, she charged forward toward it, reaching into her as she quickly brought out a pair of shuriken, throwing it towards the creature as she jumped high onto one of the trees. The beast continued to charge forward, not minding her sudden attacks.
It took only a split second for it to immediately close the gap, quickly descending its claws towards the tree she had jumped onto. The tree was instantly slashed into four logs by its claws, and she quickly jumped onto the next tree as she witnessed the horror before her.
Before she was a creature covered in white fur. On its face, red glowing eyes lay just before its forehead, and just a few inches below that was its maw which had a long pair of canines stretching out of it, almost past its jaw. It had two huge hands almost the size of an average teenager, its claws the size of her shoulder; over seven inches in length.
Its hind limbs were 1.5 times bigger than its hands with its torso stretching towards twice her height. It stood at a height of four and a half meters, a menacing sight most would struggle against.
" Well, so much for being fifteen." She mumbled, watching as the creature's hand rose high once again, quickly descending towards her.
