Reincarnated as a Genius Mage-Chapter 45: Genesis
Chapter 45: Genesis
He’s the flashy type isn’t he?
Well, I’m not. So I walk down the steps of the audience seat slowly.
Now, I’m just a few inches away from him— still approaching slowly.
I refuse to look at his face. My head is low, my mind simulating strategies. Strategies that are useless because I do not know his fighting style.
I’m five steps away from him now.
Four steps.
Three steps..
Two steps...
Breathe in Edward. Ease your pounding heart.
And breathe out.
Now that I’m having a better look at him. He’s not that tall. In fact, he’s just a few inches taller than me— a seven-year-old. Well, not a normal seven-year-old.
The warm breath from his nose caress the skin on my forehead.
And slowly— I raise my head upward to meet his gaze.
His deep black gaze stares down at me.
God, those eyes look like they’ll swallow me.
"Begin." He says. And immediately, with almost blur like speed, he leaps back—Going about six steps away from me.
Around his body, I see the permeating air mana— corrupting the air around him. Emboldening his presence.
My eyes flash with brief wariness as my shaky legs quickly move, and crouches into a combat stance.
He’s standing still, and comfortably. One hand is in his pocket. And the other hand is raised against his face. His eyes are closed.
Now.
Immediately, my fists coat with fire.
And I advance— covering the small distance between us.
First, I throw a light jab with my fire coated right fist toward his ribs.
He easily dodges it. Grabbing my lunged arm, and delivering a blow on it with his elbow.
"Nng." I groan as the fire wrapped around my fists dissolve immediately.
His hands are still tightly holding my arm. And then, with his knuckle— he hits my chest— sending me flying back, and I land— butt on the ground.
I see. So that’s how he fights. Combat first, then spells.
My gaze flicker— scanning the area where his elbow hit my arm. It’ll heal soon. My body is abnormal anyway.
I have something else to worry about.
Wong!
A green sigil forms on both of his outstretched palms. And his black eyes glow with a luminous green hue.
And from the sigil on his left hand— a green shield, made of.. air, forms. And his right hand is..
"Whoa!" I jump high up immediately from where I sit. Twirling in the air as I throw a backflip. My eyes trace the blitzing, glowing green orb of air that he shot from his palm. fгeewёbnoѵel_cσm
Bam!
And I land— my legs hitting the sand, causing a small ripple of dust to soar.
I outstretch my right palm,
Wong!
A red sigil forms on it. And immediately, a rope made of fire materializes on my hands. It’s long. Long enough to hit him from this distance.
His eyes widen subtly. He didn’t expect my unusual spell. But he crouches low, holding his large air shield— covering his shoulders and knee with it.
And on his other hand— a windblade forms. Long and sharp.
He lunges forward— advancing with a speed almost equal to Klaus’s.
I throw the rope of flames— targeting his neck. But he blocks it with his shield, and slashes it with his windblade— cutting it in half, and he keeps running.
That’s right. Come.
Wowong!
Another red sigil forms— this time two, and it’s suspended on the air just in front of me.
And from the sigil— fireballs spun endlessly— hurling towards him like flying comets.
He blocks most with his shield, slashes through the others with his windblade. And the rest dissolve before hitting him because of the air mana permeating around him like a body shield.
I leap high into the air just before he reaches me. And he slashes the area which I was with his windblade.
Immediately— I land on his head. And at that moment, I spare no time. And I dig two into his eyes.
"Argh!" He groans as he swings his neck wildly— to shake me off.
Wowong!
Two red floating sigils form above me. And as he’s disoriented from the sensation of my fingers digging in his eyes— I leap from his head— retreating from him.
Shwaaa–!
Arrows of flames pour down from the two floating sigils that rest calmly above him.
–Huff– –Huff–
The arrows; they’re numerous. And they cause the mana in my circle to consume thoroughly.
He crouches low—
Tsss!
The windblade on his other arm dissolves into the air. Like it was never there. And replacing it— another air shield.
He covers himself with the two shields as he crouches. Blocking the endless rain of fire arrows dissolving on the shields.
And I hear him voice out; "I just wanted to take it easy."
–Huff– –Huff–
I’m on the ground, couching. My breath heavy, the sweat on my face; under my mask— it’s almost completely flooding my vision— but I can still see.
That won’t be enough.
The four green rings revolving around him— they start spinning. Slowly, steadily.. and then they surge— spinning with unmeasurable speed. Causing the air mana around him to increase exponentially.
And at the same moment— a strong force presses down on me— causing me fall to my knees. "Nng!" My teeth gnash, and my fists clench as I try hard to resist the pressure.
It’s his mere pressure.
And...
–Fuuuuuuuu–!
Air mana bursts from him. Corrupting the pure mana in the atmosphere— all over the training grounds.
Tssss!
All the fire arrows dissolve immediately as he raises his two shields up, "Arrgggggggggg!" and the air ripples. Causing the atmosphere to quake as he lets out a thunderous roar.
I cover my ears with my hands. Blood trickles down my mouth. And I can’t stand up anymore.
What the hell is this?
His eyes— they’re glowing ferociously with an ungodly dark green hue. And his green air shields glow brighter than ever.
And then..
Shhhhhhh!
The shields disappear.
He stares at me for a calm moment— watching me struggle under his pressure. And he folds his fists. A green hue of air mana wraps around his both fists.
And he starts walking close to me.
Every step he takes— it increases the weight of the pressure I feel.
My insides contract— squeezing, "Arrgh!" I groan in pain, and then, "so this is the power of a fourth circle mage." I whisper.
My lips I— I bite them. And my hands on the ground squeeze the sand tightly.
What nonsense! After all I’ve trained. Is this how much I can fair against a fourth circle? How much more do I have to train? Just what the hell does this damn world want from me?
A bitter smile widens on my lips. And with it— a chuckle escapes, and it grows. The chuckle turning into laughter, and the laughter— into a loud cackle.
A life I didn’t ask for.
A world I can’t call my own..
And a hurdle I have to cross in order to go back...
"Okay.." I mutter under my breath. "If this is what the world wants from me... then I’d gladly give it my all." I say as I force my quivering knees to stand, and my shaky waist to straighten. The gravity keeps fighting. Trying to make me surrender just like fate is.
My head’s spinning, and my vision is warping. But I cast just one last glance at Spade’s direction.
Wong!
And I form a green sigil on my palm— pointing my palm at his forehead.
"This.. is my genesis." I mutter. And in that short moment— a wind arrow flies from my palm— directly toward his forehead.
And my heavy eyes shut close.
My mana.. I’ve spent it all.
And I collapse.
