Reincarnated as a Fat Bastard in an Eroge Game-Chapter 27: A Thought
"So you want me to help you pass the exams."
It wasn’t really a question.
Right now I was sitting in a professor’s office. And yeah, even I was shocked there was a method to bypass the restricted zone — but it turns out there is. You could actually reach the staff block if you had an invitation from a member of staff, and in my case that staff member happened to be the woman currently studying me from across her desk.
"I see you brought your little girlfriend with you," she said, her gaze drifting toward Jenny, whose grip on my arm quietly tightened. "Is it for protection?"
"No, she just wanted to tag along," I replied.
The professor adjusted her glasses. She had purple hair and eyes that were a curious mix of purple and blue — somewhat similar to Jenny’s, though hers leaned far more purple. Unlike Jenny, her hair was extremely long, pinned up into a neat bun with a silver hairpin. She wore a black suit that did absolutely nothing to hide her hourglass figure, and she carried herself with the kind of unhurried composure that made it clear she was used to being the most composed person in any given room.
"I’m sorry if this is an inconvenience," I said with a small bow. "And I’ll understand completely if there’s nothing you can do."
She stayed silent for a long moment.
"This is very unlike you," she finally said, eyes narrowing slightly. "Last time I checked, you were practically a genius theory-wise. So what exactly is this about?"
I sighed and glanced at Jenny, who gave a small shake of her head — she probably understood what I was weighing up.
"It’s complicated," I answered.
"I have all day, you know." She pulled her glasses off and bit idly on one of the handles, watching me.
"Haah."
I exhaled. She wasn’t going to budge without a reasonable explanation. That much was obvious. The question was how much I was willing to give her.
"I see," she said suddenly, sliding her glasses back on. "Look — if you want this conversation to go anywhere, I’d suggest we have it alone." She rose from her chair, unhurried. "Just the two of us."
"No thanks," Jenny said flatly before I could open my mouth.
Her glare at the professor was about as subtle as a thrown brick.
"Suit yourself," the professor replied with a small smile, lifting her handbag from the desk and collecting her ID card. "But you know as well as I do that I’m the only one who can actually do something about this."
The smile stayed. Jenny’s grip on my arm did not loosen.
I said nothing.
I let Jenny pull me out.
"I always hated that woman," Jenny muttered as we moved down the corridor, her pace sharp enough to qualify as marching. "I don’t even know why I suggested this in the first place."
She kept pulling me forward, and I let her.
Once we had cleared the staff block entirely she stopped and turned to face me, jaw set.
"Just forget about the exam. I have connections — people who can actually help us. Let me handle it." She held my gaze, waiting.
I nodded slowly.
[What are you planning now?]
I heard the voice but said nothing.
---
It took a while, but we eventually made it back to the academy grounds and ended up in her dorm room, where she cooked a fish meal that was, I won’t lie, genuinely well done. After we ate she started narrating a string of elaborate romantic memories that sounded more or less like fairytales — the kind of stories where the lighting is always perfect and no one ever says the wrong thing. But she was so visibly happy telling them that I didn’t have the heart to interrupt. I just listened.
Afterward she walked me back to my own dorm, which was located in the other building. The one for us weaklings.
Once we were inside, she promptly started trying to assault me again — and she was making alarming progress — until a knock at the door cut the whole thing short. My roommate was back. Jenny shot the door a look that could have curdled milk, then begrudgingly let herself out.
And that was when I started my plans.
I began going through the mini wardrobe, the cupboards, the shelves — anywhere a phone might reasonably be stashed.
"What are you looking for?"
My roommate. He had the look of someone who had been assigned the word ’studious’ at birth and simply leaned into it. Round glasses, slightly disheveled uniform, the general energy of a person who kept color-coded notes.
I considered him for a moment. "My phone."
"Phone?" He frowned, then dropped down from the top bunk with surprising ease. "Isn’t it supposed to be with that girl?"
I blinked. "Which girl?" 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝒆𝔀𝒆𝙗𝓷𝒐𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝓶
"The one with the silver hair." He scratched the back of his neck. "I think her name’s Angel? I’m pretty sure she took it when she brought you back that night. You were unconscious."
My eyes went wide.
I crossed the room in three steps and took him by the shoulders.
"What?" he yelped.
"Tell me everything," I said, looking him dead in the eyes. "What exactly happened that night, and when was it?"
He blinked at me, visibly startled, then swallowed.
"Um... it was about a week ago. Late at night. You got a text from someone, told me you were heading out, and then just... left. You didn’t come back until well past midnight — rollcalls were already done. That was when she brought you in. She was carrying you." He paused. "She said you just needed rest and that you were fine. Then she reached into your pocket, took your phone, and left."
I stared at him.
"That’s it?"
"That’s it."
I let go of his shoulders and stepped back, frowning hard at nothing in particular.
This made absolutely no sense. What happened out there? Why Angel of all people? Why did she take the phone and not just leave it? What was on it that she wanted — or didn’t want me to see?
"After that night," I said slowly, "did I seem... different? In how I was acting?"
He thought about it. Actually took his time, which I appreciated.
"Yeah," he said finally. "You got really quiet. Stopped going out late. Started coming back early. Today’s actually the latest you’ve returned since then, now that I think about it."
I stood there for a moment, turning it all over.
Wait.
Could it be that Angel had something to do with my ending up here in the first place?
