Chapter 24: Worried

"What?" I blurted after finding Angel giving me an odd look, to which she shook her head then proceeded to attend to Micheal, rubbing his back as he enjoyed his steak.

Hmm, this feeling... Why do I feel like there’s something I’m missing with her? Something crucial. Then again, since I have no memory of this body, I can’t remember what it is.

Suddenly a hand held my chin and tilted my head. It was Jenny again, and this time she looked really annoyed.

"....."

She didn’t say anything, just kept my gaze for a while before proceeding to her own food.

Like, what the heck is this girl’s problem? From the start she’s just wanted me to look at her... That’s about it, just to keep looking at her. Does that make any sense?

"That’s right. When were you going to tell us about her?" I heard and frowned at those words.

"Who?" I asked, turning to Micheal who had a smirk on, as well as Fred who just looked surprised.

"...Tania from the other class," he said, and I instantly knew he was referring to Lyra.

"Sighs. You don’t know what happened and you already arrived at that conclusion?" I raised an eyebrow.

"I mean, she doesn’t spare any guy the time of day, but from what I saw she literally came to find you immediately after the practicals," he said.

"Is this... true?" Jenny asked with a frown.

"I mean it did happen, just not for the reason the dumbass is thinking," I said, proceeding to scoop a spoon of this chicken... um, chicken something malash.

But just then I felt a hard pinch. Jenny, again. Given the ease with which she does this, I take it it’s not something new.

"Why did she approach you?" she asked with some serious dead eyes.

[I think you should answer this question.]

I think so too.

"It’s some misunderstanding she wanted to clear up, nothing serious," I replied, waving it off even as I felt a chill from that look she had on.

It seems even Fred sensed it, given his next words.

"It’s a good thing if he gets a girl right? Come on, we should be—"

He didn’t even get to finish before she cut in.

"Maybe you should focus on your meal, Fred. Or don’t you think so too?"

Those words and those eyes sent his way, and the young man did exactly as suggested.

"Come on Jenny, you know we can’t protect him forever," Micheal said. "He needs to make his own decisions from now on. So yeah, if you really have eyes for her you have my full support."

He leaned forward and gave me a shoulder pat with a silly grin, which Jenny promptly knocked off.

"No he doesn’t. You already know what happened the last time he did that."

Both he and Fred exchanged a complicated expression.

"What time?" Thankfully, Angel asked the very question I needed to ask.

"Um... it’s, um... well—" Micheal stuttered, unsure of how to proceed.

"It’s personal," Jenny said flatly to Angel, who gave a strained smile.

"Sorry, I didn’t mean to pry."

Micheal frowned in annoyance. "Did you have to talk to her that way?"

"It’s okay Mike, it must have been something sensitive, it’s my fault," she said, holding his hands.

He clicked his tongue.

"Look, at the end of the day it’s his life. No matter how much his decisions may hurt him, it won’t kill him since he made those choices. There’s no telling how things will play out next time we meet — we might get separated. So I think it’s time we let the past be the past."

I would have shed a tear at that speech if I at least knew what the fuck they were talking about.

"I’m right here, you know," I made myself known.

They promptly ignored me.

"He’s right Jenny, it’s time we move on," Fred chimed in.

She said nothing for a while. Then she grabbed my arm and stood up.

"Let’s go."

"Eh?"

I mean, I know the original me is a weakling and all, but you guys are practically treating me like a child at this point.

"Please?" She gave a complicated expression and held my arm a little tighter — not the kind of grip I experienced from Lyra. It wasn’t forceful at all, just... I can’t quite put it into words.

I held her gaze for a while, then stood up and walked out in tow with her.

From what I can tell, she won’t harm me. So let’s see where this is going.
