Refusing to Remarry: Mr. Hawthorne, You Are Out-Chapter 6: He’s Your Bedfellow!
After Leo blurted everything out without caring, he turned and strode straight toward the door!
The way he looked, it was as if no matter how grand the invitation, even if eight palanquins carried him over, he’d never return!
But what he said made Raine’s brows knot tightly as she spoke coldly, "Wait."
"..." Leo stopped instinctively.
"You said Jonas Hawthorne almost died because of me?"
From behind came Raine’s deeply shocked retort, as if she really had no idea about this at all!
Leo sneered, mocking, "Don’t tell me you know nothing? He’s supposed to be your man in bed!"
With that, Leo left without looking back.
Leaving Raine alone, drowning in doubt.
She truly didn’t know anything.
When on earth did Jonas Hawthorne almost lose his life?
And it was because of her?
Thinking about Leo’s determined look earlier, it didn’t seem like he was lying. Could it really be true?
But Jonas Hawthorne never said a word about it...
Raine fell deep into thought—when did it happen?
From what she remembered, Jonas Hawthorne was always cold and distant, barely spoke to her, and even at home, he just went through the motions of being a husband.
Besides that, they hardly ever communicated at all.
Now, looking back, even Raine couldn’t help but laugh at herself.
All that obvious indifference and disgust—how did she not see it sooner?
She foolishly believed that as long as she was good to him, one day he’d understand.
What a joke.
It felt like an invisible hand was twisting her heart tight.
A dull ache, making it hard to breathe.
Mason Sullivan, always sensitive to her moods, immediately noticed something was wrong and asked anxiously, "Sis, are you okay?"
When others were around, he’d call her ’Raine.’ But when he wanted to protect her in private, he called her sister.
All these years, that never changed.
Raine shook her head, signaling she was fine, but her furrowed brows didn’t relax at all.
Easton Yancy wasn’t interested in personal drama; he cared more about Raine’s rejection of Leo. "Ms. Sinclair, did I just hear you say the new project will be a public tender?"
Hearing that, Raine snapped back to attention, nodding decisively, "Yes. Put the word out, let all the capable firms compete."
"Exactly! There’s no shortage of engineering companies—they don’t need the Keane Family!" Mason Sullivan scoffed, still annoyed when he remembered how Leo cursed at Raine earlier!
"Got it, I’ll get on it now," Easton Yancy nodded and went off to make the arrangements.
After he left, Raine—still scattered and lost—turned to Mason and asked, "Leo said Jonas Hawthorne almost died because of me. Is that true?" 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝚠𝚎𝚋𝗻𝗼𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝚘𝐦
She’d thought about it for ages and couldn’t find anything wrong—had she misheard?
But Mason, with zero cunning, answered her right away without thinking, "Yeah!"
Raine’s heart skipped a beat.
Mason continued, "Maybe because of the divorce?"
He assumed it was relationship drama.
After all, it’s not always physical pain that hurts—even deeper is the pain inside your heart...
"No," Raine denied flatly. "It wasn’t because of that."
Jonas couldn’t wait to divorce her!
"Oh, come on! You’re divorced—why worry about him at all?" Mason grumbled, scratching his head, his tone slightly sour. "Whether he’s alive or dead, it’s got nothing to do with you now!"
Raine said nothing more, but her tightly knitted brows just wouldn’t loosen.
Outside the door.
Just moments earlier, Leo had stormed out with swagger—now, not even a minute later, he was biting his tongue in regret.
"Why did I have to be so tough? Throwing out threats like that—if I don’t get the contract, I’m doomed!"
Clenching his fists, frustrated, he thumped his own head. Leo really wanted to cry—is there anything more hopeless?
He wanted to just smash himself dead!
He’d just raised his hand, and immediately heard the door open behind him.
Almost simultaneously, Leo quickly dropped his hand and pretended to casually rub the back of his head.
Coming out was Easton Yancy. Seeing that Leo was still there, he looked a bit surprised. "Young Master Keane? Is there something else you need?"
After all, Sinclair Group had worked with them for years—Easton always kept things polite.
"Hmph." Leo rolled his eyes, flicked his bangs disdainfully, and strode off with a ’nobody matters’ swagger.
Easton watched the young master’s departing figure, let out a quiet chuckle, then dialed Evan Sinclair’s cell and gave a detailed report of everything that had just happened.
Right then, Evan Sinclair was lying leisurely on a lounge chair in his own backyard, soaking up the sunlight.
Next to him, his wife was arranging flowers, servants hovering nearby with snacks and fruit—a life too comfortable for words.
After hearing the story, Sharon Jennings paused her work, anxiety creeping into her voice as she asked her husband, "You’re really letting Raine make the call herself? What about the Keane Family..."
"What’s to worry about? The Keane Family is nothing! I only let them win the bid before because of Jonas Hawthorne." Evan huffed, "Now the Hawthorne Family and ours have nothing to do with each other—why should I bother giving the Keane Family respect? Raine did well—she really is my daughter! This is exactly what a new boss should do—shake things up!"
That made Sharon Jennings laugh. "Yes, yes, our Raine is perfect! As if I didn’t know you—you just don’t want to offend your old buddies and saw the chance to let our daughter take over!"
Sharp as always, Evan grinned with pride. "Raine’s the younger generation, still young—if she does something impulsive, those old fools won’t dare say a word! Having my daughter back is the best thing!"
Getting more pleased, Evan closed his eyes and started humming a tune.
At first, Sharon Jennings was laughing along too, but soon her face clouded with worry.
Back when Raine insisted on marrying Jonas despite the whole family’s objections, and now she’s divorced—even if she’s smiling now, all that pain in her heart, only she herself knows.
Wiping away the tears at the corner of her eyes, Sharon Jennings got up and walked into the villa. "I’ll ask the kitchen to make some chicken soup, help our girl recover."
After Sharon left, Evan—eyes closed the whole time—finally opened his eyes slowly.
How could he not know his daughter was suffering?
But there are things parents can’t help with—she has to figure it out herself.
Letting her manage the company now is a good thing—keep busy so she doesn’t dwell on it.

When Leo next went to find Jonas Hawthorne, he looked so aggrieved he was about to cry.
"You have no idea how outrageous your ex-wife is! Not only won’t she sign, but now everything has to go to tender—she’s all about transparency and fairness. What’s the point of that?!"
He was genuinely pissed off.
He couldn’t believe that after all these years of working together, Raine wasn’t giving him even an inch of respect!
He couldn’t help but cast a glare at the main culprit—Jonas Hawthorne!
If this bastard hadn’t ditched his original wife for the mistress, driving the real deal out, would Leo be suffering such harsh treatment now?!
