Chapter 3: Chapter 3: Will You Stay With Me Tonight?

"It’s so dark..." Candace Ford was a bit scared, clutching Jonas Hawthorne’s sleeve tightly, her expression filled with fear.

Jonas Hawthorne then turned on the light and called a servant to set Candace up in the guest room upstairs.

"You will live here from now on. If you need anything, just tell the servant." He said indifferently before turning to leave.

Realizing the man in front of her really intended to leave, Candace quickly stepped forward and held him, asking softly, "Jonas, it’s so late, won’t you stay and keep me company?"

Jonas Hawthorne paused slightly.

Candace noticed, and immediately seized the opportunity, "The baby also wants to have a father around."

She knew precisely how to move the man beside her and what would work on him.

Just when she thought she was about to succeed again, Jonas Hawthorne let go of her hand, "Rest first, I have some matters to attend to."

Saying this, he left without looking back.

Candace’s face instantly turned sour, and she turned back to the room, looking around. Thinking that this was once Raine Sinclair’s place, she suddenly coldly smirked with pleasure.

"Raine Sinclair, you’ll never be a match for me. Just wait, as soon as the child in my belly is safely delivered, the Hawthorne Family will have to obediently welcome me..."

...

When the servant brought hot tea to the study, Jonas Hawthorne took only a sip before furrowing his refined brows.

Far more bitter than usual.

Looking up, he noticed an unfamiliar face.

"Where is Mama Chambers?"

"She left with Madam..." The servant said uneasily, head lowered.

Jonas Hawthorne’s gaze deepened slightly, drinking a mouthful of tea on his own, his thin lips lifted slightly again, "How was she when she left?"

The servant paused for a moment before realizing, the gentleman was asking about the Madam...

"It was raining when Madam left, seemed to have been caught in the rain. After she went back..." Here, the servant suddenly paused.

Jonas looked up, his cold gaze sweeping over her.

"Speak."

Only then did the servant hurriedly replied, "I heard the Sinclair Family was hosting a large gathering of friends tonight, quite lively, supposedly... to celebrate Madam’s divorce..."

As soon as the words were said, the servant immediately sensed a chilling, bone-chilling aura enveloping the entire study!

She broke into a cold sweat, fearing to draw trouble onto herself, and quickly retreated.

The study returned to silence, but Jonas Hawthorne’s face was exceptionally grim.

The lines of his jaw were taut and his thin lips pressed into a line.

In the early hours, her sorrowful and despairing eyes and translucent pale face seemed to still linger in his mind.

And in a blink, she’s back home hosting a divorce party?

Jonas Hawthorne frowned and turned on his phone, casually scrolling through social media, and indeed saw Raine Sinclair in a splendid dress appearing in posts.

Her makeup was exquisite, her smile radiant, with not a trace of sadness.

Accompanied by a caption: All endings are merely the beginning.

What does this mean?

Jonas Hawthorne’s eyes narrowed dangerously, dismissing their past in one sentence?

Heh.

Has Raine Sinclair forgotten who resorted to all means and relentlessly pursued marrying him?

Before he could delve into his surging anger, a sudden rush of footsteps was heard outside!

Even before seeing the person, he heard an enraged shout!

"You brat, still have the mood to read a book?! I just went on a holiday and you divorced?! And brought that vixen home?!"

Following closely behind was a lady dressed in a moon-white gown, her hair gray but her makeup meticulous, her flaming red lips matching her fiery nature.

Jonas Hawthorne looked up to see his grandmother Silas Linton walking in.

Grandmother and grandson exchanged a sharp glance, sparks instantly flew in the study!

"Where is that vixen?! Chase her out immediately!"

Silas Linton, voice full of vigor, stood firmly before her grandson, grandmother’s authority instantly cast down.

In her younger days, she chased off quite a few mistresses, especially despising women who wreck families!

"Grandma," Jonas Hawthorne’s brow furrowed slightly, "Candace is pregnant."

Silas Linton’s expression froze, "Whose? Yours?"

Jonas Hawthorne nodded.

Immediately, Silas Linton’s features crumpled, even her gaze turned exceedingly disdainful.

If it weren’t for this being her own grandson, Silas Linton might have taught him a lesson in the blink of an eye!

"I never thought you’d do such a thing to betray Raine!" In extreme resentment, she could only gnash her teeth and scold!

Jonas Hawthorne remained silent, his dark gaze deepening.

Seeing him not speaking, Silas snorted, "I’ve been to the Sinclair Family, I reckon they won’t let their daughter step into the Hawthorne Family again in this lifetime. You better not regret it!"

Saying this, she turned and headed for the door.

This delinquent grandson, she found it irritating to even glance at him!

Seeing her reach the doorway, she suddenly remembered something, spoke coldly, "Once the child is born, let that woman leave! The Hawthorne Family won’t let a mistress through the door! Don’t ruin the rules! I only accept Raine as a daughter-in-law!"

The sound of those distancing high heels made Jonas Hawthorne’s refined brows tighten significantly.

Raine Sinclair, what kind of charm have you cast on grandma?

——

A night of spring rain.

Raine Sinclair rose early, after enjoying breakfast, she went to the company with her father.

When the elongated Lincoln parked before the hall on the first floor, a swarm of reporters rushed over.

Before the car door opened, Raine Sinclair looked at the crowd outside the window, unable to help feeling a bit nervous clutching her bag tightly.

Ever since marrying Jonas Hawthorne, her life primarily involved waiting for him at home; it had been a long time since she last went to the company...

Beside her, Evan Sinclair noticed his daughter’s tension, reassuringly patted her hand, "Don’t be nervous, Dad’s here."

Raine Sinclair finally came back to her senses, smiled and nodded, quickly furrowed her brow again, "Dad, will the news of my divorce affect the company?"

There’s no wall entirely impermeable, she left decisively yesterday, and her family even arranged a party, likely the whole Sedonia already knew.

"What to worry? No matter what they say, let them talk, what we should earn will be just as much!" Evan Sinclair was highly confident, taking his daughter out of the car, "Let’s go, we father and daughter will face this group of nosy reporters!"

Raine Sinclair was amused by her father’s flamboyant aura, followed him out of the car.

Sure enough, as soon as she stepped out, the reporters blocked her immediately with questions, "Ms. Sinclair, how do you view your daughter being kicked out of the Hawthorne Family?"

"Mrs. Hawthorne... oh no, now it should be Ms. Sinclair, we heard your ex-husband brought the mistress home?"

"Ms. Sinclair, will the Sinclair and Hawthorne families continue to collaborate in the future?"

Each reporter’s questions were sharper than the last, with Evan Sinclair’s face darker with each he heard!

Seeing that he was about to retort angrily, his daughter spoke ahead from beside him.

"Divorce is because I picked the wrong person, these days, hasn’t everyone met a few jerks? No need to be shocked, I haven’t given it much thought, why should you concern yourselves over me?"

With a faint cold laugh, Raine Sinclair brushed off being cheated on with a few words, calmly and lightly.

In the end, she didn’t forget to add, "If any of you present were bitten by a dog, you wouldn’t all plan to bite back, would you?"

The reporters were left staring blankly.

Was she implying... Jonas Hawthorne is a dog?
