Refusing to Remarry: Mr. Hawthorne, You Are Out-Chapter 20: You Don’t Want Me and the Baby Anymore
The sound of Mason Sullivan urging from outside the car seemed to automatically blur into the background.
The sealed car interior had become a whole new world of its own.
A world that belonged only to Raine Sinclair and Jonas Hawthorne.
No matter what, they’d been husband and wife for two years; the time spent together under one roof wasn’t all that much, but it wasn’t so little either.
The two people who’d once shared the closest relationship in the world, were now as awkward as strangers.
Raine Sinclair really couldn’t figure him out.
Didn’t he hate her?
Didn’t he hate her so much that he led his first love to kick her out, forcing her to get a divorce?
But why, after she left, hadn’t he just rolled right out of her world?
Just now at Grant Manor, he’d found a chance to talk to her, and now he’d even got into her car and locked the doors?
All this behavior was completely unlike anything the dignified Jonas Hawthorne would do.
Raine Sinclair waited a long time but Jonas Hawthorne still didn’t say anything, so she let out a cold laugh. "Mr. Hawthorne, what are you up to? You hit my car—are you planning to hijack it now?"
Of course she knew he wasn’t here for her car. She said it on purpose, just to piss him off.
Sure enough, Jonas Hawthorne quickly replied, "Leo didn’t crash into your car on purpose."
"Hmph." Raine Sinclair didn’t care to listen to his explanations. "If it wasn’t on purpose, does that mean you don’t have to take responsibility?"
"I’ll buy you a new one."
"No need!" She shot back without thinking, then glanced out the window. Mason Sullivan, impatient as ever, was already pulling out his phone and getting ready to smash the car!
Jonas Hawthorne wasn’t the slightest bit concerned about all that, but continued, "If you want to hate someone, just come at me—Candace and the child are innocent."
"What do you mean?" Raine Sinclair couldn’t figure out why he’d suddenly brought this up.
"The trending news," Jonas Hawthorne said. 𝑓𝑟𝑒𝘦𝓌𝑒𝑏𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝘭.𝒸𝘰𝑚
Raine Sinclair froze for a moment, then came to her senses. Laughing at herself, she asked, "You can’t really think I was the one who leaked the news about The Mistress getting pregnant and rising to the top, can you?"
What a joke!
Just now she’d been wondering why Jonas Hawthorne had suddenly gotten so interested in her—it turned out it was all for Candace Ford and her unborn child?!
He thought she’d done all this, so he came barging in to interrogate her?
That man who’d once been so arrogant, now resorting to locking cars and throwing tantrums over The Mistress?!
If Raine Sinclair’s feelings for Jonas Hawthorne had thoroughly died after their divorce, then now, she couldn’t even look at him anymore!
Where had his abilities and decisive ruthlessness gone?
Now he wouldn’t even do a proper investigation before falsely accusing people?
Or, in his heart, was she always just some vicious woman who’d stop at nothing?
Jonas Hawthorne could, of course, hear the disbelief and coldness in Raine Sinclair’s words. His dark eyes deepened, and he retorted, "Wasn’t it?"
Actually, he knew it definitely wasn’t Raine Sinclair who’d done this.
If she’d really wanted revenge, she would’ve leaked the news the day they divorced. With the Sinclair Group backing her, it’d have blown up in minutes—there’d have been no need to wait days later.
As for why he’d said what he just did, it was just that... for a moment, he didn’t even know what to say.
He suddenly realized, besides this topic, they barely had anything left to talk about.
Raine Sinclair didn’t know any of this. She bit down hard, and it took her a long while to barely steady her pounding heart.
"Jonas Hawthorne, relax. Since we’re divorced, from now on your path is your path and mine is mine. Who you want to be with is your freedom, I’ll never interfere, and I’ve never even thought of taking revenge on you two. Don’t flatter yourself."
She got it all out in one breath and absolutely didn’t want to talk to him anymore, adding, "And another thing, this is my car—please get out!"
Her cold, merciless words were like razor-sharp knives, stabbing all at once at Jonas Hawthorne’s heart!
The Raine Sinclair in his memory had always revolved around him.
Every time she saw him, she would always light up with the brightest smile...
But now, when she saw him, she seemed to only greet him with a cold face.
And not only that, she kept urging him to leave!
The huge sense of contrast hit Jonas Hawthorne all at once—he realized there was a strange restlessness rising inside him!
"You’d better mean it!"
He spat out those four words, finally unlocked the car, and got out.
At that moment, Mason Sullivan was outside the door yanking the handle like mad. When Jonas Hawthorne shoved the door, he nearly fell over!
Mason quickly straightened up. He poked his head inside, saw that Raine Sinclair was unharmed, and finally breathed a sigh of relief before snapping at Jonas Hawthorne, "What the hell were you just doing?!"
"Mason." Raine Sinclair called him, "Go get Lily back. We’re leaving."
"...Okay." Mason didn’t know what had happened, but if this was what Raine wanted, that’s what he’d do.
When Lily Sinclair was brought back by Mason Sullivan, she and Leo Keane had been yelling at each other, their faces red and necks bulging!
This dignified young lady had been driven so mad she was rolling up her sleeves, ready to fight!
Just goes to show what a total jerk she’d been up against!
And Leo Keane wasn’t any better. Even as Lily Sinclair was being dragged away, he refused to give up, still barking after her, "Let’s see you try cussing me out for real next time!"
"Bring it on!!"
When Raine Sinclair and her crew’s car sped away, you could still hear Lily Sinclair shouting those three words!
Leo Keane nearly jumped with rage. "How the hell does the Sinclair Family raise their daughters? Each one is scarier than the last!"
Jonas Hawthorne shot him a frosty look, and Leo Keane instantly coughed awkwardly and zipped his cherry-red lips shut.
But...
"By the way, what did you just say to your ex-wife when you got in the car?"
Leo Keane asked carefully.
While he’d been bickering with Lily Sinclair, he’d been paying attention to what was happening on the side.
To be honest, he’d been stunned the second Jonas Hawthorne got into the car!
Jonas Hawthorne didn’t answer. The next second, his phone started ringing.
He glanced at it—it was Candace Ford calling.
He didn’t pick up right away, instead falling into a long silence.
Leo Keane, the one with no sense of self-preservation, leaned over for a look, and asked, "Why aren’t you picking up?"
Only to earn a death glare from Jonas Hawthorne.
His heart stopped for a beat—what did he say wrong now?
Soon, the phone stopped ringing.
Leo Keane coughed lightly, rubbing his nose, "She’s probably calling to tell you to hurry home?"
Women calling so late generally want their men home...
Leo Keane might not be married, but he’d had plenty of girlfriends.
Sweet, spicy, obedient, feisty—he’d seen every kind of woman.
Regardless of their differences, when it came to nagging, they were all the same!
Calling to check up on their men, completely the same old trick...
Leo Keane had barely finished speaking before Jonas Hawthorne’s phone started ringing again.
This time Jonas Hawthorne’s brows drew together as he picked up.
Candace Ford’s voice quickly sounded in his ear.
"Jonas, when are you coming back? I just had a dream—you abandoned me and the baby, and I’m so scared..."
Her voice, thick with sobs, was all softness and pitiful brokenness.
