Refusing to Remarry: Mr. Hawthorne, You Are Out-Chapter 18: Is Mr. Hawthorne Blind?
The people around immediately understood what was going on, except for Nina Warren who was still stubbornly holding on.
At the same time, a man in a security uniform quietly walked up behind Leon Grant. After whispering a few words, Leon’s expression changed instantly.
"Everyone! We’ve just gotten the surveillance footage from the banquet hall."
With one sentence, all doubts and speculations were shattered.
Raine Sinclair glanced back and saw someone next to Leon Grant carrying a tablet, and then, right in front of everyone, played the footage of Nina Warren sneaking around with a waiter, plotting something suspicious.
At a glance, everyone could instantly distinguish right from wrong.
"So it really was that Nina Warren!"
"How vicious! And she still tried to pull this kind of crap behind our backs?"
"Exactly! Absolutely shameless!"
Nina’s face turned deathly pale. Terrified, she kept stumbling backwards, "No... no!"
Then, by accident, she tripped over something and fell backward!
She instinctively reached out to grab onto something, but instead yanked at the tablecloth. With that pull, all the cake and wine on the table came crashing down on her!
"Ah!"
With a scream, by the time Nina snapped out of it, she was already a total mess from head to toe, indescribably wretched.
Lily Sinclair had wanted to curse her out some more, but on seeing her like this, she just pursed her lips and snorted, "Serves you right!"
The onlookers showed no mercy, continuing to jeer at her.
"What goes around comes around, huh?"
"Utterly disgusting!"
"Who’d have thought the Warren Family could raise a daughter like that!"
Every comment was nastier than the last, leaving Nina Warren trembling with fear.
Raine Sinclair lowered her gaze, looking down at her, not intending to say anything. Then suddenly, a flash of a suit hem appeared before her eyes, followed by Leon Grant’s voice, "Since you’ve done something wrong, you should apologize."
He was talking to Nina Warren.
"I..." Nina’s jaw trembled, panic all over her face, and all her earlier arrogance was completely gone. She just stared dumbly at Raine Sinclair, "I’m... sorry."
But before she could even finish, Raine cut her off, "The person you owe an apology to is yourself."
With that, she turned to look at Leon Grant and smiled slightly, "Mr. Grant, I’ve got something to take care of, so I’ll be leaving first."
"Alright." Leon Grant was a bit surprised but still nodded. "I’ll walk you out."
Raine Sinclair raised an eyebrow, wanted to refuse, but seeing all the eyes on her, she had no choice but to accept, "Sure!"
Saying that, she strode straight for the door, never sparing so much as another glance at Nina on the floor.
Strangers like these—hardly worth the trouble.
Looking at Nina Warren, she really didn’t seem too bright. Give her a lesson and move on; no need to dwell on it.
Contrarily, Raine Sinclair’s cool, non-grudge-holding attitude, her unbothered and sharp style, was instantly met with unanimous praise!
"Who’d have guessed, Raine Sinclair really is a clever one!"
"Totally—I have to wonder, is Mr. Hawthorne blind or what?"
"Divorcing a woman as amazing as her? She’s gorgeous, loaded, and even has a great personality!"
The discussions broke out in waves, most of them now praising Raine Sinclair, which made Mason Sullivan and Lily Sinclair grin from ear to ear!
Outside the manor.
Leon Grant walked Raine Sinclair to the door. Noticing the night breeze was chilly, he took off his own suit jacket and draped it over Raine’s shoulders.
"This... that’s not necessary, Mr. Grant?" Raine tried to sidestep him but couldn’t, so she could only respond awkwardly, "If a reporter sees this, who knows how they’ll spin it in the papers."
"Afraid of them?" Leon’s tone dripped with disdain.
It’s just a couple of reporters anyway—their articles aren’t exactly must-reads for everyone.
Raine coughed dryly, "I can handle it, but I’m mostly worried about your reputation being dragged down with me, Mr. Grant!"
Leon’s brows lifted slightly, and then he smiled, "It’s just a jacket."
Come to think of it, he had a point.
Raine Sinclair touched her nose awkwardly and thanked him before turning and getting into the car.
Lily Sinclair and Mason Sullivan quickly followed after.
As the car sped off smoothly, Lily Sinclair kept glancing wistfully out the window, watching Leon Grant see them off...
Don’t know why, but with just that last look, Lily found her gaze always drifting to Leon Grant.
Only... it seemed Leon Grant’s gaze was fixed more often on her cousin.
Feeling a bit disappointed, she heard Mason Sullivan let out a long, contented sigh. He said animatedly, "Raine, you were totally badass tonight! Just after you left, everyone who was badmouthing you before ended up giving you a big thumbs up behind your back!"
In private, Mason still liked to call her "Raine" like they did when they were kids, a sign of their closeness.
"No wonder Dad chose you to make the donation, sis!" Lily Sinclair joined in admiringly.
And her cousin had donated such a huge sum!
Raine Sinclair’s expression remained calm the whole time—even her smile was faint. "Yeah, that was dad being smart."
"But handling that Nina Warren thing was all you!" Mason quickly changed the subject, adding, "Letting that woman off so easy feels like a waste!"
"Public humiliation is already the strongest punishment for her," Raine replied.
Mason thought about it and nodded. "True... She embarrassed herself to the max! No way anyone lets her live it down—serves her right!"
Raine continued, "And anyway, with so many people watching, if I held onto it too tightly, I’d just look petty."
Lily, listening in, was in awe of all the subtlety revealed by these words. "Sis, you really are incredible!"
Mason grinned, "Now you know how amazing Raine is? Stick around your cousin and learn a thing or two, you..."
Before he finished, a violent jolt shook the car!
"Bang!"
A huge crash echoed from behind!
The driver hit the brakes at once, stopping the car quickly!
Everyone was stunned, until the driver rushed out to check. "Ms. Sinclair, are you alright? I’ll go see what’s up!"
"Okay." Raine nodded while massaging her temple.
The impact had really rattled her.
Mason shook his head and swore as he jumped out, "What the hell! Who taught you how to drive? If you can’t drive, stay off the road!"
He was sore from the hit and all politeness went out the window.
He just wanted to drag the other driver out and beat him up!
But as soon as he finished cursing and looked up, he saw the driver from the car behind was...
"Leo Keane?!"
Mason was stunned!
Of all people—an old acquaintance!
Raine Sinclair, who’d heard that from inside the car, furrowed her dark brows.
She turned to look at the car behind, and sure enough—it was Leo Keane.
And getting out of the car alongside him was... Jonas Hawthorne.
