Refusing to Remarry: Mr. Hawthorne, You Are Out-Chapter 13: May I Have This Dance?
His movements were graceful, his posture dignified.
No wonder he’s ranked among the top ten eligible bachelors in the world!
On the way here, Raine Sinclair crammed up on the history of the Grant Family.
Three generations, with Leon Grant as the sole heir.
Mr. Grant has pinned all his hopes on him.
Received elite education from a young age, and then went abroad for further studies as an adult.
Even so, he showed no arrogance in front of Raine Sinclair, his depth of character perhaps on par with Jonas Hawthorne.
Just as she thought of this, Raine Sinclair’s heart unexpectedly hesitated for a moment.
Why did she think of Jonas Hawthorne again?
Amidst her surprise, there was a hint of frustration.
Why think of someone so heartless?
Yet, for so many years, her thoughts had always revolved around Jonas Hawthorne. He’s the first one she thinks of...
There was a time when just thinking of him would make her feel happy.
But now, only disgust remains.
Disgust for being so useless, why think of those unnecessary people?
In the silence, Leon Grant suddenly asked beside her, "Ms. Sinclair seems to have something on her mind?"
Raine Sinclair quickly came back to her senses, smiled lightly, "Just feeling a bit unwell lately, can’t drink alcohol."
After speaking, she politely put down the champagne.
Leon Grant didn’t know the reason behind it but didn’t pursue further, instead mentioning, "I heard Sinclair Group plans to open a public bidding for engineering construction?"
"Yes," Raine Sinclair nodded. She had already asked Easton Yancy to start preparing for it.
Recently, the publicity has been good, and it should be quite lively on the 18th.
"Previously, wasn’t Sinclair Group’s projects all contracted to the Keane Family?" Leon Grant asked again.
He did his homework before returning to the country.
Since he was going to develop in Sedonia, understanding the complex network became essential.
Know yourself and your enemy, only then can you be undefeated in battle.
Upon hearing this, Raine Sinclair smiled, "Seems Mr. Grant has understood early on?"
No wonder he’s Kevin Grant’s son. Even though he hasn’t been in the country for years, he knows Sedonia’s situation like the back of his hand.
Leon Grant curled his lips, "After all, they are leading enterprises in Sedonia, naturally I need to understand them. But is Ms. Sinclair’s move to completely change the cooperation partner, or is it just a gimmick?"
Everyone knows that while bidding sounds fair and open, it often gets decided at some people’s dining tables.
The Keane Family had been like that.
Raine Sinclair understood what Leon Grant meant, yet she still kept a smile, speaking unhurriedly, "For so many years, it’s time Sinclair Group refreshed its blood, isn’t it?"
It’s not that she insisted on replacing the Keane Family, mainly that they have been indulging in pleasure for years, always believing their business wouldn’t be taken by others, so their work was casual. Although the basic quality is guaranteed, there’s hardly any progress, their craftsmanship still the same as years ago.
The decision to initiate a re-bidding was also aimed at putting a bit of pressure on the Keane Family.
Leon Grant furrowed his brow slightly, but before he could speak, Raine Sinclair continued, "Would Mr. Grant be interested in hosting this bidding event for Sinclair Group?"
This unexpected statement was beyond Leon Grant’s expectations.
He and Raine Sinclair just had a fleeting acquaintance, and generally, the Grant Group and Sinclair Group maintained a gentlemanly yet distant relationship, with no deep interaction, let alone cooperation.
And now suddenly asking him to host Sinclair Group’s bidding event...
Seeing him hesitate to answer, Raine Sinclair smiled, "Mr. Grant needn’t worry, there are people handling specific matters, only with someone as outstanding as Mr. Grant hosting, can everyone believe in the fairness of this bidding."
She spoke very directly, without any fancy rhetoric.
Against a man as profound as Leon Grant, trying to play tricks would be like showing off before an expert.
It’s better to speak clearly and straightforwardly.
Leon Grant was evidently surprised by the simplistic and direct praise and flattery from the woman before him.
Wanting to leverage him, yet speaking so frankly?
However... it wasn’t distasteful.
As for hosting... "What’s the benefit?"
He asked suddenly.
"Huh?" Raine Sinclair was taken aback, thinking she misheard.
"Ms. Sinclair wouldn’t let me work for free, would you?" Leon Grant raised an eyebrow, looking into her eyes thoughtfully.
This woman repeatedly surprises him.
Raine Sinclair blinked, tilted her head to study him, "What benefit does Mr. Grant want?"
With his wealth and power, he surely wouldn’t care for a small amount of money.
Since he asked, there must be something he desires.
But what could someone who lacks nothing want from her?
She was indeed curious.
However, after pondering momentarily, Leon Grant said, "Haven’t thought of it yet. Perhaps I’ll ask Ms. Sinclair for this favor sometime in the future."
Raine Sinclair frowned slightly, that’s considered a favor?
"Mr. Grant should say it now, who can predict what the future holds?"
She added.
It’s like handling business contracts, without clear terms written in black and white, the future remains ambiguous.
If he wanted her to commit something drastic, she’d be in trouble, wouldn’t she?
Leon Grant though chuckled, "You fear I might ask you to do something you’re unwilling to?"
His words were full of meaning, and Raine Sinclair’s eyes paused slightly, instinctively feeling that the benefit was surely not straightforward, but before he could speak, a gentle melody suddenly rose behind them.
Her thoughts were instantly interrupted.
Raine Sinclair turned to look around, finding men started to invite women.
In pairs, they walked to the illuminated lawn center, seemingly about to start dancing.
Is there a Dance time?
Just as she thought so, a hand suddenly appeared in front of Raine Sinclair.
She hesitated for a moment, then heard Leon Grant say, "Ms. Sinclair, would you like to dance with me?"
"..." At that moment, Raine Sinclair’s mind was completely blank.
What is this man doing?
Tonight, many at this banquet are waiting to see her make a fool of herself!
Not only did he not do so, but he even proactively invited her to dance?
Does he want to be laughed at with her?
"I..." She opened her mouth, instinctively wanting to refuse. 𝓯𝙧𝓮𝓮𝒘𝓮𝙗𝙣𝒐𝒗𝒆𝓵.𝓬𝓸𝒎
Before she could voice it, she caught sight of Jonas Hawthorne in the distance.
His gaze was clearly aimed her way.
Though somewhat far, she couldn’t discern the emotion buried in his eyes.
Yet, in that second, very strangely, she didn’t hesitate at all, slowly raised her hand, placing it in Leon Grant’s.
It’s nothing unusual to dance a few dances at such a banquet.
And when Leon Grant grasped her hand at that moment, he lifted his elegant brow lightly, a refined smile blooming at his lips.
"My pleasure."
With that said, he led Raine Sinclair to the center of the dance floor.
