Refusing to Remarry: Mr. Hawthorne, You Are Out-Chapter 111: Really Need You
Easton Yancy, who had always treated things as a joke, became a bit more serious when he saw her so earnest.
The lunchbox in his hand suddenly didn’t taste as good anymore. He turned to meet her gaze, "Since you’re this conflicted, Second Miss, it means you don’t really want to do this bad thing."
He wasn’t the least bit curious about what the "bad thing" Lily was talking about actually was.
But the Sinclair Family had always shown him kindness over the years. A few extra words were nothing, so he didn’t mind having a heart-to-heart with her.
Actually, most of the time, people aren’t really that bad—sometimes you just get stuck on something for a moment.
If you have someone around to guide you in a positive direction, maybe there wouldn’t be so many tragedies.
"No, I want to." Lily shook her head, her words resolute.
Leon is who she wants. She’s willing to do anything for him!
But... she doesn’t want to hurt her cousin because of this either...
For her, it was a tough choice with no good answer.
Easton studied her for a moment, noticing the way her eyes kept flickering. He knew she was deeply conflicted right now.
"You can want something, but you can also control yourself not to do it," he said slowly.
Lily, who was all tangled up inside, was caught off guard by his words.
She stared dumbly at Easton in front of her, even holding her breath a little. "Not do it?"
If you want it—doesn’t that mean you have the urge to go through with it?
"Yeah, restraint," Easton nodded. Seeing how lost she looked, he half-joked, "I don’t know how bad a thing you plan to do, but think about it—you’re so young, you have a bright future ahead of you. Do you really want to spend the rest of your life in jail for this? Imagine how heartbroken your parents would be. And your cousin—she really needs you right now."
Lily didn’t really follow most of what was said before this.
But that last sentence landed like a thousand-pound rock on her heart.
Tears of pain shimmered in her eyes.
Yeah, her cousin is pregnant, she’s already struggling, Candace Ford is circling like a vulture, and yet she’s still thinking of hurting her cousin...
Easton hadn’t expected that just a few casual words would scare the girl in front of him to tears.
He instantly panicked, "Second Miss, are you okay? I... I didn’t say anything that bad—why are you crying?"
Lily couldn’t take in a word. She was drowning in sadness and guilt, and soon her tears were streaming unchecked.
This really startled Easton. He quickly handed her tissues, "Hey, hey, don’t cry—I’ll stop talking, okay?"
But it didn’t help at all—Lily was completely lost in her own emotions.
Just then, coworkers who’d finished lunch started drifting back in.
Hearing the soft sobbing, they all curiously poked their heads in to take a look at the secretary’s office.
Soon, people started whispering amongst themselves.
"Why is Second Miss crying?"
"I think she was eating with Assistant Yancy?"
"When did they get that close? Do you think Assistant Yancy was picking on her?"
"Wait, are they dating?"
"Huh? Keeping it that well hidden?"
Easton: "..." What kind of nonsense is this?
No matter how he tried, the little girl in front of him wouldn’t stop crying. He started feeling a sense of defeat, so he just turned to glare at everyone gossiping behind him and snapped, "Don’t you people have anything better to do?!"
"..." The chattering died in an instant.
Ten minutes later, word had spread almost everywhere in Sinclair Group: Easton Yancy has hooked up with the Sinclair Group’s Second Miss!
Raine Sinclair, who was out boating with her grandpa, absentmindedly checked the company’s internal network and spotted that piece of news.
She froze on the spot.
"No way. Lily and Easton are together?"
How did she not know about this?
Did they really keep it that well hidden?
Mason Sullivan, who’d insisted on tagging along, came over too. He glanced at the phone screen and was completely dumbfounded.
"Those two are up to something? Seriously? I didn’t see that coming!!"
He grabbed Raine’s phone and scrolled down. "They were secretly meeting in the office, apparently had a fight, and Lily even cried?"
"..." Raine blinked in disbelief, too stunned by the news to react!
At that moment, William Jennings leaned over as well. "Lily Sinclair? That cousin of yours?"
"Yeah." Raine nodded obediently and sat beside her grandpa again. "The family’s been trying to set her up, so she’s been pretty upset lately."
"You young girls—what’s so wrong with following your parents’ wishes? Marrying someone from a good family, at least you get a peaceful life." William Jennings snorted, completely unable to grasp why kids these days are so rebellious!
Each and every one of them seems desperate to sprout wings and fly clear of their parents, huh?
Have you ever considered, with your measly twenty years of life experience, how could you possibly know better than your parents?
Raine cleared her throat and mumbled softly, "But there are legendary love stories about marrying for love too..."
"Sure, love marriage sounds great—look at yourself right now," William Jennings shot her a look.
He adored this granddaughter and did all he could to make sure she was well-fed, warm, and never wronged in any way.
That didn’t stop him from being strict, though.
Expecting she was about to get another lecture, Raine stuck out her tongue in a teasing way and quickly changed the topic, "Ah, Grandpa, let’s not talk about me! Look how beautiful the scenery is out here on the water!"
"Hmph." William Jennings grunted again.
Raine: "..."
While the two of them were bantering and laughing, no one noticed Mason Sullivan suddenly went quiet after all his earlier chattering.
He’d just finished reading Lily’s gossip and was about to hand the phone back to Raine, when suddenly a new message popped up at the top of the screen.
It was from Leon Grant.
The first line read, [How was your day off?]
And he’d even sent a cute sticker.
Mason paused. Leon Grant—someone as stoic as him was using cute stickers?
Obvious player!
No way, there’s no way he’s letting this jerk get anywhere near Raine!
So he replied, [I’m with Raine now, she’s doing just fine, so you don’t need to worry at all!]
When Leon received the message, he raised an eyebrow and instantly knew it was Mason responding.
He didn’t ask why Mason was with Raine, nor did he get jealous—he just replied coolly, [Very dedicated bodyguard.]
At that, Mason’s face started twitching uncontrollably!
Did he just call him a bodyguard?
God, he wanted nothing more than to rush over and beat the hell out of Leon Grant!!
Before Mason could finish fuming, his phone vibrated again.
He quickly lowered his head to look.
