Chapter 49: A Name

Red woke up in an unfamiliar ceiling. He might not have stayed more than a month in his new house, but he remembered the ceiling. He could tell he was not in his house in a single glance.

"You finally awake!?"

A familiar feminine voice entered his ears. He turned toward the voice and found a familiar face. The female human with whom he conversed more than anyone in the village. She looked worried, but also relieved at the same time.

He was confused for a moment, his memory was kinda foggy and was confused for a moment. It took him a while to remember everything. His last memory before he passed out was the battle with the Dire Wolf pack and their king.

That was when he recalled that he killed the Dire Wolf King. At the same time, the Infernal Berserk had also expired. He lost his strength and passed out not long after. Everything synced in his head, and he let out a sigh of relief and regret.

He was relieved that he didn’t die after the Infernal Berserk was over. He had a regret because he could not get the loot from the Dire Wolf King. The Chief would take it even if he killed the Dire Wolf King.

"How long have I been sleep?"

He turned toward the female human who looked concerned and asked her in his broken human language.

Darla had a relieved smile as she answered, "You have slept for more than one day. The Chief ordered me to take care of you while you are unconscious."

Then she got the bowl on the table. The bowl was still releasing a hot steam. "This is your favorite gruel, and I add more ingredients to make it more flavorful."

Red was about to check his window status, but when the word food entered his ear, his focus immediately shifted. He received the bowl and checked what was inside. He was curious about the additional ingredients.

There was this thin-sliced orange stuff, and a different type of meat. The usual meat was dark, but this one was pink. He brought the bowl into his mouth and took a gulp.

The orange stuff was crunchy and a little bit sweet, and the pink meat was soft, going well together with the gruel. As Darla said, the gruel was more flavorful than usual. He finished the bowl in ten seconds.

His eyes brightened, and his face showed how he liked the food. He licked the last drop of the liquid from the bowl before turning toward Darla.

She knew what Red wanted and took the bowl from his hand, getting more.

Red liked the additional ingredients and swallowed bowl after bowl. Considering he woke up inside a building and on top of a bed with Darla, he was taken care of him. He could assume the village was safe, so he didn’t need to worry about the dire wolf issue anymore.

He finished the whole pot by himself, even though he could take five more bowls. He could ask Darla to make more, but that might cause trouble for her. The one in charge of her might punish her.

He was officially a hunter and might be part of a warrior right now after helping The Chief to kill the Dire Wolf King. But he was not special yet. His position in the tribe might still be lower than the old goblin in charge of the main kitchen.

They would not give him preferential treatment even after what he did. That was how the tribe worked. He could not use his status to protect Darla. So he held back from asking Darla to make another pot.

Red checked his status as the female human left the room. He wanted to make sure that he had recovered.

He was relieved that his health had increased to almost two hundred. Even though he had not fully recovered, he was no longer in danger. Then a frown formed on his forehead.

It bothered him to see the question marks each time he opened the status. He paid no attention at first, ignoring it. However, it bothered him now that he didn’t have a name. It felt like his identity was being denied.

Red didn’t care about the name because he had a pressing matter before. It was to gain the village’s acknowledgement, food to fill his starving belly, and the curse cast by the Shaman.

He noticed the negative status had disappeared from his status. He recalled the description of the curse. It was indeed a blessing for a true hunter. The curse, in fact, helped him to push himself to keep hunting instead of being satisfied with just one or two prey.

It was weird that he felt grateful for the curse, but he quickly threw away the thoughts. The Shaman put the curse to kill him, not to push him to get stronger. He should not feel grateful; instead, he should praise himself to pass through the ordeal and use it to his advantage.

Now he had resolved all the pressing problems. The thing that was not an issue became an issue to him right now, just like how he didn’t have a name.

After a quick check on his status, he started to focus on his new skills. He didn’t have the time to check his new skills. The one he got from the Book of Manasmith 2, and the Fireball that he got from killing the Shaman.

He almost used Fireball at the last moment, but he was glad he didn’t use it. It would cause a complication with the Chief for sure. He might even wake up in prison instead of bed if he used the skill.

They should be aware of the Shaman’s disappearance by now. If he used the Fireball back then, he might be linked with the Shaman’s disappearance. Since he didn’t use it, the Chief or the others would never guess it was him who killed the Chief. He joined the last fight. He should be safe from suspicion.
