Chapter 208: Knowledge Over Strength

Tatehan spent the afternoon of that day watching the fighters train on the training field inside the compound of the Red Crest Clan.

Seeing him standing there, watching how they fought, the guards were motivated to train well and impressively.

Tatehan didn’t have much to do today, so he decided it would be wise spending it inside the building of the Red Crest Clan. He actually wanted to go out, to go have fun and all that, but decided against it.

He didn’t even know where Lyra and Riven were. Maybe on patrol or something like that? Checking if monsters from the wastelands weren’t pouring into the city.

Or maybe they were just out having fun.

While the fighters on the training field fought well, trying to impress Tatehan, he didn’t feel they needed to stress themselves.

It had been almost three months since he arrived on Mars, and when he first came, he didn’t know how to fight or do anything related to something like this.

Remember back on Earth—his girlfriend had been the one fixing the bulbs, repairing some stuff that broke in the house, and all those things that the MAN of the house was supposed to do.

He was just a normal guy who didn’t even know how to fight.

But now, after almost three months on this planet, these guards were seeing him as one of the best fighters to have ever graced the planet.

They were seeing him like he was some godlike threat, someone who could fight so excellently and knew all the fighting techniques there were.

But in reality, he wasn’t that guy. He wasn’t an excellent fighter. In fact, he was a really bad one.

The guys on the training ground currently doing fighting techniques were even better than him if he was being honest.

At least they could fight normally, without heavily relying on abilities.

Tatehan wasn’t a good fighter. I mean, he couldn’t actually FIGHT!

This had been greatly shown in the battle with Mub, how Mub had really beaten him up even with Riven whispering instructions in his ear.

That fight had shown that Tatehan was a fighter who depended on lots of things to actually win a fight.

So while he might have defeated Mub, honestly? That was nothing too special. He had only used one punch. There was no fancy fighting technique or tactics to it.

And then the battle with Cherak hadn’t involved anything really brilliant from him. He just punched Cherak to his death and survived his own death by using his Gravity Manipulation.

And then, with the behemoth creatures, all he did was let himself be hit, absorb kinetic energy, use his gravity shield, and then boom! Devastating punches!

There was no pure moment of learned fighting brilliance.

Though there was something: it just wasn’t physical.

A normal person with all the abilities Tatehan had might honestly not be able to use them wisely.

He remembered something:

[Knowledge is the key on Mars, and frankly in life as a whole. Strength without knowledge of how to use it is almost useless, and abilities without understanding how to apply them effectively is completely useless.]

The words of the spaceship’s AI when he had wondered why his system only focused on improving his knowledge instead of strength and all these physical stats.

And now, looking at it, the spaceship’s AI was right.

In all those moments where he thought there was nothing special to him surviving all those near-death experiences, there was actually something.

His KNOWLEDGE!

It was the same knowledge he had that made him think of mastering his Gravity Manipulation in the fight with Mub and using the One Punch.

It was the same knowledge that made him think of letting the Boulder-Back Behemoth hit him repeatedly so he could store the energy and then utilize it with a punch against the creature.

It was the same knowledge points that also enabled him to survive the fall with Cherak: it was ’knowledge’ that made him immediately reason out the best way to use his ability at that moment!

It was the same ’knowledge’ that made him survive being sliced in half in the Skyblade by the Mech Monster.

So, the knowledge stat had been really helpful in him understanding what to do in dire situations with his abilities, using them very creatively so that he survived what should have killed others. His enhanced intelligence allowed him to process information faster, spot opportunities in combat that others would miss, and adapt his abilities in ways that went beyond brute force.

It was not about being the strongest or the fastest, it was about being smart enough to use what he had in the most effective way possible.

"I WIN FOR THE THIRD TIME IN A ROW!" a fighter suddenly roared, bringing Tatehan back to the present.

He had been staring at them all along, but his mind had been lost in thought, his eyes seemingly seeing nothing but his own reflections.

"How did I do, Battle Commander Tatehan!" the fighter who had won suddenly asked Tatehan, who almost roared in laughter at the question.

’I must have been so lost in thought I didn’t even watch the fight,’ Tatehan thought. ’And now he’s asking how it was. Did he fight well? Of course, I have no idea if he fought well or not, lol.’

"It was a good one," Tatehan said out loud. "I’m kind of impressed."

"Think he’ll be a good one for you to take on?" another fighter suddenly asked, almost startling Tatehan, who grinned.

"Nah, with the way he fought, he’ll definitely defeat me."

All of the guards roared in laughter, including the one who had been defeated.

Some even had the luxury to fall on the ground, roll, and laugh like maniacs.

Tatehan didn’t want to join in the laughter at first. He just watched, a bolt of laughter trying to escape from the corner of his mouth. But when he saw the fighters on the floor, rolling and laughing like madmen, some coughing and holding their stomachs, he eventually joined in.

LOLLLLLLLL!

He honestly never knew he had a knack for comedy. In fact, he had never seen people laugh like this back on Earth for any comedian.

It was shocking to see. And what had he even said?

’Nah, with the way he fought, he’ll definitely defeat me.’

THAT. That was what started this frenzy of crazy laughter.
