Rebuilding the Immortal Cultivator Clan-Chapter 2018 - 1478: Progress
The other Sea Clan Heavenly Immortals couldn't help but frown—the Immortal Tao's tactics were really giving them a headache.
If they chose to invade West Continent but didn't send most of their clan members, then on the battlefield, they wouldn't be able to suppress or defeat the Demonic Tao, easily falling into endless entanglements and stalemates.
As time passed, the situation would become increasingly disadvantageous for the Sea Clan; after all, they were fighting on foreign ground. Whether it was mobilization, reinforcements, logistics, or supply, the Sea Clan would always be in trouble.
But if they dispatched most of their clan members, the Immortal Tao would definitely seize the opportunity to make a move, making East Sea anything but peaceful.
The most critical issue: letting the Immortal Tao continually undermine the stability of East Sea was the same as depriving the Sea Clan of a vast area suitable for cultivating Spiritual Objects.
No matter how rich and mighty the Sea Clan seemed—wealthy across the Four Seas—even they couldn't withstand such massive depletion with little coming in and so much going out.
Another thing: the sea area may be vast, but not every place was suitable for the Sea Clan to prosper. It wasn't exactly crowded, but it definitely wasn't particularly abundant either.
And after the Immortal Tao used the Moving Spirit Secret Skill, the Spirit Veins would decrease or drop in grade, causing the already limited suitable sea areas to shrink even further.
By then, even if the Sea Clan conquered most of the West Continent's waters, they'd still lose a great batch of sea territory in East Sea, along with the countless Spiritual Objects that could have been cultivated there.
Calculate it carefully, and the Sea Clan ends up losing out!
...
Back to the point!
Because of the alliance between the Immortal Tao and Demonic Tao, the Sea Clan was utterly stuck between a rock and a hard place over the West Continent issue.
Unable to figure out a good solution, the Heavenly Immortal Water Demons simply tossed the whole issue aside for now, deciding not to deal with it yet. First, they'd digest the waters of West Continent and get full control, then consider further action.
Meanwhile, in nearby East Continent, the Immortal Tao was bustling with energy.
This was because the rewards promised earlier by the various major Immortal factions were about to be open for exchange!
However, since the Sea Clan retreated so quickly this time, almost all the cultivators didn't gain much, barely earning any points—not nearly enough to redeem those coveted rewards.
This detail made it obvious: the Immortal Tao higher-ups had anticipated all of this from the start and had plans to keep harassing the Sea Clan in the future.
So they immediately announced that points could be accumulated, and no matter when, killing Water Devils would always earn points!
Though, outside of wartime, you only earned twenty percent of what you would during battle.
As for slots to enter those Secret Realms, you could choose to "buy on credit," not borrowing Spirit Stones, but promising to participate in the next operation—how many disciples or clan members you'd send into battle, or alternatively, agreeing to kill a large number of Water Devils.
...
Mount Wanxian.
Li family.
Ever since Li Debo cracked down on that bunch of rats and parasites in the family, things inside had gotten a lot clearer—no one dared try any shady little tricks anymore.
The regular clan members were, of course, happy about this—it was a great thing for them—but for the Elders and Stewards, it was a real pain.
Before, they could sneak away a Spiritual Object here or there, but ever since that incident, not a single one dared to try that again. They simply couldn't get used to it.
Even if they suffered, they could only swallow it and bear it—not daring to mess up now of all times.
And so, Li Debo's reputation in the family became sharply divided. In most clan members' eyes, he was an excellent leader. To a small group, though, he was a criminal guilty of unspeakable sins!
But all they could do was gripe in private or grumble to themselves; they didn't dare let their opinions be known, and certainly wouldn't try any kind of strike or resistance.
After all, not only did Li Debo have righteousness on his side, but above him were Li Zhirui and Li Mingyao and other Ancestors backing him, with broad support below. If they actually tried anything, they'd only be screwing themselves!
Besides enduring it, they had no other options.
Rumble——
Suddenly, a bolt of thunder crashed down out of a clear sky, the massive commotion drawing everyone's attention.
"What's going on?"
Though it didn't strike Mount Wanxian, that Spirit Mountain was home to many rare Spiritual Objects.
A group of cultivators flew over at once, quickly arriving at the front of Spirit Mountain.
"This looks like the place where Spirit Ancestor Qingpeng is in seclusion?" a clan member said, hesitant.
"That's right! This is it!" Hearing that, several others remembered and chimed in to confirm.
"I heard the Ancestor is in seclusion, attempting to break through to the Heavenly Immortal Realm. Could this be a sign of his impending success?"
"No way? I've never heard of thunder coming down as an omen before Tribulation Transcendence starts."
"Then it can't just be some random thunder out of nowhere, right?"
While they argued, another bolt of thunder suddenly struck from the sky, landing not far from them and scaring them into hastily retreating, fleeing the area right away.
The shock unsettled them and made them even more confused—some suspected a treasure had just been born in the mountain, causing the phenomenon; others thought Xiaoqing was cultivating some secret technique; and some simply believed the thunder was a coincidence, not some mysterious reason like everyone thought.
The commotion they kicked up was so big that more clan members who hadn't seen the thunderstrike firsthand were drawn over, found out what happened, and joined the discussion. In the end, it got so loud and chaotic that the noise reached Li Debo himself.
