Reborn Young Miss: Phoenix Burning Red-Chapter 476: Divorce Is Not an Option (2)
Meanwhile, Adrienne sensed a disturbance within the villa, as she hadn’t seen a single soul that night while Adrian was sleeping soundly on the bed. Her suspicion only grew stronger when Alistair came in unannounced, bringing some papers with him. Something was definitely not right.
Adrienne immediately stepped up her guard and tensed up, ready to confront Alistair and get some answers.
"What do you want, Alistair?" She narrowed her eyes dangerously. She could sense the urgency on his face.
"I don’t have time to argue with you, Adrienne. Sign these papers now." Alistair demanded, his voice filled with impatience.
Adrienne eyed the papers Alistair was thrusting towards her, her mind racing with suspicion. She then realized it was the divorce papers Alistair had prepared for her to sign. Her expression turned cold. There was no way she would divorce Lennox to be with Alistair.
Seeing the tense expression on his face, Adrienne surmised that Lennox and her brother had finally come to her rescue because Alistair wouldn’t act like this if it weren’t the case. She felt a glimmer of hope deep inside her.
Adrienne let out a cold laugh. She knew that Alistair was never one to show concern for anyone but himself.
"And why would I do that?" She asked. "I have no reason to divorce my husband."
Alistair glowered at her in return.
"Do you think I’m making empty threats, Adrienne? Think again. I always get what I want."
"Not everything in life is about getting what you want," she retorted defiantly. "My husband would come to retrieve me."
Alistair’s eyes narrowed, his face contorting with anger. He had always been accustomed to getting his way, manipulating others to bend to his will. But Adrienne was different. She was strong-willed, unwilling to be a pawn in his game any longer.
"Oh, Adrienne," Alistair sneered, his voice dripping with malice. "You underestimate me. Your precious husband will never reach you in time."
Adrienne stood her ground, refusing to let fear consume her. She had endured enough of Alistair’s manipulations and was determined to break free from his control.
Her heart skipped a beat at the ominous words, but she refused to let doubt seep into her resolve. Lennox had proven time and again that he would move mountains for her, and she held onto that unwavering faith.
"Lennox will find me," she said, her voice steady but laced with defiance. "You can try to separate us but never break us apart. Divorce is never an option. Even if you kill me now, my heart belongs to him."
She couldn’t see it in her past life, but Adrienne realized Alistair wasn’t as invincible as she thought he was. She just wrongly assumed that she could not defy him.
Before Alistair could say anything, footsteps echoed through the hallway outside, growing louder with each passing second. Adrienne’s heart leaped in her chest as anticipation coursed through her veins. She hoped it was either her husband or her brother. They had finally managed to locate her, and now all they needed was to bring her back to safety.
Alistair’s face twisted into a mask of rage, but it was too late. His plans had been foiled, and now he would have to face the consequences of his actions.
Alistair turned to leave, but he wasn’t quick enough. Lennox burst through the door and tackled Alistair to the ground.
"Run, Addie!" Lennox shouted as he tried to stop Alistair from coming after her. "Find, Hunter!"
Adrienne jolted from the seat and eyed the sleeping child on the bed. She rushed to get Adrian and quickly scooped him up in her arms before running toward the door. She hesitated momentarily, but Adrienne knew she could only put Lennox at an advantage if she stayed. She ran into the hall while Lennox held Alistair down.
"You dare to threaten my wife?!" Lennox couldn’t contain his rage anymore.
Alistair’s eyes darkened. He resisted Lennox’s hold and pushed him away. Lennox staggered back and pulled out a gun from his back, pointing it towards Alistair.
Alistair sneered at him. He wasn’t impressed by Lennox’s show of force, and he knew he had the upper hand in this situation. He had always been one to be underestimated, but now he had the chance to prove everyone wrong.
"You’re not the only one who’s willing to do whatever it takes to protect their own," Lennox said , his voice shaking slightly. He knew that his life and Adrienne were on the line, and he wouldn’t back down without a fight.
Alistair smirked, his eyes twinkling with mischief.
"This isn’t about protecting anyone, Lennox. This is about power, control, and taking what you want, no matter the cost. Adrienne is mine to begin with, and she would remain mine no matter what the circumstances. "
Lennox’s grip on the gun tightened, his knuckles turning white.
"Enough! Adrienne is her own person, and you have no right to decide who she should be with! You’ve never given her any reason to love you, much less like you. You are a pathetic man who doesn’t take no for an answer. Adrienne made it clear she doesn’t like you. You are a fool to think she would change her mind after everything you’ve done."
Alistair smirked.
"Lennox Qin, who are you to say these words to me? You aren’t better than me. If Adrienne knew the dirty things you’ve done in the past, do you think she’ll continue to love you? Did she know you were the one who kidnapped and tortured Ares Gu years ago?"
"I’m nothing like you." Lennox spat the words; his gun still pointed at Alistair, who was trying to lessen the distance between them. "As for your other question, Adrienne is aware of the details of what I’ve done and still chose to stay with me. Indeed, we are both monsters in different ways, but at least this monster before you would rather destroy himself than break Adrienne’s soul."
Lennox’s words hung in the air, and footsteps grew louder in the hallway outside. Alistair’s eyes narrowed, his expression a mix between anger and fear. At that moment, he knew Lennox had the upper hand and, no matter what, Adrienne was lost to him.
With a sudden burst of speed, he lunged at Lennox, causing him to stumble back and drop the gun. They fought fiercely, each thinking only of the woman they both loved. Alistair lunged towards Lennox and grabbed the gun in his hand, trying to take it away. They wrestled against each other, with Lennox hissing as the grip Alistair had on his wrist tightened, causing him to yelp in pain.
"Look what you’ve done," Alistair growled, his voice barely audible above the sound of their struggle. The look in his eyes was murderous. Lennox might hesitate to kill him, but Alistair won’t return the favor.
"You’ve ruined everything. If it weren’t for you, I wouldn’t have lost Adrienne. Adrienne is mine!"
Lennox could barely register the sound of shattering glass around them as he was busy fighting for control against Alistair. Alistair was taller and more robust than him, and Lennox knew he had to use every ounce of strength he had left to overpower him. He fired the gun, but it didn’t hit Alistair. The bullet broke the glass window behind Alistair, which only made the latter burn in rage.
Finally, Alistair got a good grip on Lennox’s wrist and brought down his arm on his knee. Lennox grimaced in pain, and despite his best efforts to keep the gun, he dropped it. As he desperately tried to find it, Alistair took advantage of his distraction and punched him in the face.
The room around Lennox spun, and he shook his head, trying to gain his focus, but another heavy punch landed on his face, almost knocking him out. Alistair’s punches landed one after another, each one more brutal than the last. Lennox knew he had to stop him, but his strength was waning from the pain. His punches continued to rain on Lennox until blood trickled from his nose and mouth.
He reached out for the gun once more, hoping to gain an advantage. But Alistair was quicker. He grabbed Lennox’s arm and wrenched it back, causing Lennox to cry out in pain. Alistair smirked.
"You’re weak, Lennox," he sneered. "You never should have come for her."
"I won’t let you hurt her," Lennox gasped, his voice barely audible. "I’ll kill you before I let you lay a finger on her." 𝘧𝘳𝘦ℯ𝓌𝘦𝒷𝘯𝑜𝑣𝘦𝓁.𝒸𝘰𝓂
Alistair laughed coldly.
"You’ll try, but you won’t succeed," he said, his voice full of confidence. "I’ve been waiting for this moment. You won’t be able to stop me. I’ll have Adrienne, no matter what. "
Lennox finally managed to create a distance between them, but it was useless. Alistair wasn’t giving him any chance to recover, and it took everything from Lennox to keep Alistair’s fists away from his face. As Alistair continued his barrage of punches, Lennox could feel his right eye swelling shut, and he knew it wouldn’t be long before he wouldn’t be seeing anything from it. He also knew that if it continued, he would be in deep trouble.
