Reborn Young Miss: Phoenix Burning Red-Chapter 474: In the Midst of Chaos (2)
When Hunter finally called, Lennox couldn’t contain his excitement and quickly answered the phone. He was half expecting Hunter to berate him for allowing Adrienne to go to Alistair, but Hunter had surprising news to share instead.
"We got everything ready for tonight. Uncle Reese and the Shen family are giving us a hand in taking down all of Alistair’s illegal activities. We’ve already secured all the evidence to incriminate him and ensure his arrest."
Lennox felt relief wash over him as he realized Hunter had a solid plan. With the support of Uncle Reese and the Shen family, their chances of success seemed even more promising. They were finally ready to take down Alistair Han once and for all.
"Uncle Reese would lead the raid. You and I will rescue Addie from Alistair’s clutches," whispered Hunter on the other line. "If Alistair finds out Addie brought the evidence to light, he might do something to her."
"I know," Lennox replied, understanding the implications and the urgency of the situation. "We need to act quickly and save Addie."
"Then I would meet you tonight, Nox, but you must follow my lead. It would be dangerous to face Alistair on your own." Hunter said, determination evident in his voice. "We can’t let anything happen to Addie."
"I understand. I would make some preparations then." Lennox replied, determined to protect Adrienne from Alistair’s wrath. There was no telling how Alistair would react once he found out he’d lost everything.
Of course, they knew where Alistair was keeping Adrienne. Lennox ensured that he sent people to tail his wife discreetly to know her whereabouts. They just hoped their plan would work. However, waiting for the night to come was agonizingly slow for Lennox. He wanted to go and rescue his wife as soon as possible, but he knew he had to be patient and trust in their plan.
As the hours ticked by, Lennox found himself pacing back and forth in his study, unable to shake off the anxiety that gnawed at him from within. He glanced at the clock on the wall, its hands inching closer to the appointed time. The weight of responsibility settled heavily on his shoulders, reminding him of the stakes involved. The weight of anticipation settled heavily on his shoulders, his mind racing with thoughts of Adrienne and the danger she was currently trapped in. Each minute that ticked by felt like an eternity.
Lennox knew Alistair was cunning and unpredictable, capable of going to great lengths to protect his empire and assert his dominance. This knowledge fueled Lennox’s determination to ensure their plan unfolded flawlessly. They couldn’t afford any missteps, not when Adrienne’s safety hung in the balance.
The room grew colder, mirroring the chill deep within Lennox’s bones. He couldn’t help but feel a gnawing sense of doubt creeping into his thoughts.
What if their plan wasn’t foolproof? What if Alistair had anticipated their every move? Lennox shook his head, banishing those negative thoughts from his mind. He had to remain focused and believe in Hunter’s words.
Suddenly, a soft knock at the door was jolting Lennox from his restless pacing. His heart leaped with hope as he hurriedly made his way to answer it. Standing on the other side was Noah. The boy had just woken up, and Lennox had no doubt he was looking for Adrienne, as she used to wake Noah to prepare him for school around this time.
"Where’s Mom?" Noah asked sleepily.
Lennox’s heart sank as he looked down at Noah, the weight of the situation crashing down upon him once again. He had hoped to shield Noah from the truth and keep him from the dangerous realities surrounding them. But now, faced with Noah’s innocent question, Lennox knew he couldn’t hide the truth any longer.
Gently, Lennox crouched down to Noah’s eye level and took a deep breath.
" Your mom is... away at the moment, buddy," he replied, forcing a small smile. "She had to go on a little trip."
Noah frowned, his bright blue eyes filled with confusion.
"But why?" he asked, his voice barely above a whisper.
Lennox struggled for words, searching for a way to explain without instilling fear in the young boy. His heart sank at Noah’s innocent question.
"Noah, Mom had to go away for a little while. But don’t worry, we’ll bring her back soon, okay?" Lennox tried his best to sound reassuring, but he couldn’t mask the worry in his voice.
Noah’s small brow furrowed as he considered Lennox’s words. "Can I help too?" he asked, his voice filled with determination.
Lennox couldn’t help but feel a surge of pride for Noah’s bravery and confidence. He placed a hand on Noah’s shoulder and smiled warmly.
"You’ve already helped more than you know," he said softly. "Right now, I need you to be strong like your mom and stay here with Myrtle and Scarlett. You and your sister can stay home for now. You must be a man who can look after them while your Uncle Hunter and I fetch your mother. Can you do that for me, buddy?"
Noah looked up at Lennox with teary eyes but managed a small nod of understanding.
Lennox hugged Noah, trying to provide some sense of comfort in the midst of chaos. He knew how much Noah adored Adrienne and how difficult it must be for him to comprehend her sudden absence. But Lennox had no choice but to leave Noah behind for now, knowing that the danger they were about to face was far too great for a young boy.
When he released Noah, Lennox held his small shoulders and looked at him in the eyes.
"Remember, Noah, you’re the man of the house now," Lennox said, his voice steady despite the tremble in his heart. "Look after Myrtle and Scarlett with Jet. We’ll bring your mom back safely, I promise."
Noah nodded again, his determination shining through the sadness in his eyes.
"I won’t let anything happen to them," Noah said softly, his tiny voice filled with conviction.
Lennox smiled at Noah’s words and ruffled his hair affectionately.
"That’s right," he murmured. "Be brave, like your mom."
As Lennox looked at Noah, he saw the flicker of hope in the little boy’s eyes. It reminded him why they were taking such risks and were willing to face the dangers ahead. For Adrienne and their family, they would stop at nothing. A sense of determination settled within him, pushing him forward despite the doubts lingering at his mind’s edges.
Lennox spent the next few hours giving orders to his subordinates. Since he could not bring his people and had to rely on Hunter and the Shen family’s men, Lennox ordered them to tighten the security around their home. He also forbade them to accept any guests until everything was settled.
Hours passed like a blur as Lennox meticulously reviewed every detail, ensuring nothing would be left to chance. He double-checked their escape routes and studied the blueprints of Alistair’s hideout.
When the sun descended beyond the horizon, casting shades of orange and purple across the sky, Hunter finally arrived to pick him up. Both of them were armed with determination and steely resolve. There was no turning back now.
"It’s time," Hunter declared, his voice barely above a whisper. "Are you ready?"
Lennox nodded firmly, a steely resolve settling over him like a suit of armor.
"I’m ready," he replied, taking a deep breath to steady himself.
As the sun dipped below the horizon, casting a shadow over the city, Lennox stepped into the unknown, his heart pounding with anticipation. The weight of their mission hung heavy in the air, but Lennox knew he had made the right choice.
If it were for Adrienne, he would do everything, even if it meant risking his own life.
