Reborn Young Miss: Phoenix Burning Red-Chapter 434: A Glimpse From the Past (1)
Adrienne felt as though her head was about to explode. Her entire body felt numb and cold as she struggled to stay conscious. She mustered all her strength and opened her eyes, hoping to see her husband by her side, but instead, she found herself standing in a familiar place.
Snow covered everything, and a wisp of dark smoke came from below the cliff. Her entire body trembled as Adrienne recognized the place as the site of the tragic accident that had taken her and Dylan’s lives in her past life. She couldn’t believe she was back here again.
Adrienne couldn’t understand why she was there but knew she had to confront her past. She went down the cliff with difficulty to see what remained of the wreckage and find closure.
The fire was already extinguished, as the snow had fallen hard before their deaths. Adrienne knelt on the snowy ground to take a peek inside the wreckage and saw herself dead with her eyes open and blood stained on her face.
Adrienne was taken aback for a moment, but she quickly realized that this was how she died in her past life. However, she couldn’t help but shed tears and cover her mouth as she saw Dylan’s dead body in the backseat of the car.
Her blood went cold upon seeing the young boy. Blood was gushing from his head wound, staining his clothes and the upholstery of the car. She was so shocked that she fell on her back and let out a scream filled with grief. The sound of despair and anguish echoed through the silent night.
Tears fell uncontrollably from her eyes as she looked at Dylan’s lifeless body lying motionless inside the car. The sight was too much for her to bear. She was dead, and so was Dylan.
She had been killed without dignity left, but what Adrienne couldn’t accept was Dylan losing his life because of her. Could it be that the reason she was here was for her to see the outcome of her previous life? Or was it to torment her all over again?
Had she become a malevolent ghost? If so, she would curse the entire Jiang family for betraying her and taking everything from her. With her deep-seated hatred for the Jiang family, she would stop at nothing to seek revenge. She would make them suffer for eternity.
The hatred Adrienne thought she had completely let go of had returned with a vengeance. It turned out that she hadn’t completely forgiven herself and was still holding onto her anger and pain. She continued to cry as she helplessly looked at Dylan’s lifeless body. Seeing him in such a state felt like someone had stabbed Adrienne directly in the heart.
The night had already descended, and the air was thick with an eerie silence. Suddenly, several black cars arrived on the scene in a hurry, as if they were trying to chase someone. Adrienne raised her head to see who it was.
Did they come to rescue her and Dylan? If so, they were already too late, as she and the child had already died from their severe injuries and blood loss. Camilla wasn’t planning to give her a chance to live as well, ensuring that she would die by poisoning her before anyone could come to the rescue.
Men dressed in black suits alighted from the car; two of them, Adrienne immediately recognized. She sat on the ground in a daze, wondering if she was seeing things.
One was Gavin. He looked nervous and pale as he looked around the place, his face blanching upon seeing the wreckage of the car before him. He yelled so loudly that his voice echoed through the empty space. He appeared to be howling into nothingness while experiencing grief and despair.
Meanwhile, the man next to Gavin was the person Adrienne loved the most. The Lennox Qin in her previous life should have been dead by now, but he was alive and well, standing right beside Gavin. He looked the same as she remembered him, albeit a little older.
Unlike the dashing smile, she was accustomed to, the Lennox before her had a cold and stern countenance rivaling the freezing temperatures of a winter storm. He seemed almost unrecognizable to her.
His dark eyes showed no hint of warmth as he looked at the car wreckage before them. His men pulled out Adrienne and Dylan’s bodies from the mangled metal, confirming their worst fears. They walked past Adrienne as if they couldn’t see or were aware of her presence.
Gavin took the young boy into his arms and hugged Dylan tightly while crying. If Adrienne had previous doubts about Gavin being Dylan’s biological father, they were now completely erased.
"No, no, no, no!" Gavin wailed as he held his dead son. The sound of his anguish and pain pierced Adrienne’s heart. She had never heard such anguish before, making her even more miserable.
As Lennox approached her, she tried to look into his eyes, hoping to see some acknowledgment of the love they once had, but all she saw was a cold and empty gaze. It was like he had completely shut down, leaving her more alone than ever.
Lennox Qin stood a couple of feet away from Gavin, his face a stoic mask. He didn’t make a sound, but she could feel the pain radiating from him. Their love was a deep and abiding connection, even though they were both broken. Adrienne knew Gavin was like a brother to Lennox and wished she could find a way to comfort them.
"We came too late. I should have sent a team to retrieve them much earlier." Lennox said with regret. 𝕗𝚛𝚎𝚎𝐰𝗲𝗯𝗻𝚘𝚟𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝕞
Adrienne had no idea she was connected with Lennox in her previous life, and he and Gavin wanted to save her and Dylan.
As the men took Dylan’s body away, a cold wind blew, and Adrienne felt the same delicate strands of hair that connected her former life to this one whipping around her face. The sight of Lennox and Gavin’s pain and loss only made her hurt even sharper.
Adrienne didn’t know what to do or say. She had found herself in a tragedy that had been her own making, a life torn apart by the passions and betrayals she had witnessed. She wanted to reach out to the living, to try and make things right, but she couldn’t. She was trapped in this ghostly realm, bound to watch and suffer.
